A war?

Book:Werewolf King, Please Don't Marry Me! Published:2024-7-4

Rose’s POV;
“Layla, is he in some kind of danger?” I asked, with uneasy thought, my heart was thudding against my chest.
“He is The Future Werewolf King, he is always in danger” She waved her hand casually like its normal to always be in danger.
“What’s the other reason?” I asked curiously.
“Whenever he goes, people follow. People stare at him like mad dogs and don’t even get me started with those bimbos who lust over him, all the damn time. He was never interested in that kind of attention. Hence, he keeps his things private. Only a few people have access to his chambers.” Layla explained patiently.
We were passing through a gigantic wooden door that was carved to perfection.
“That’s Elijah’s room” She pointed toward the giant door as we walked past it. It really took us a while to pass the entire area to reach another door which was nearly as big as Elijah’s door.
“So, how many people stay in here, in this very chamber?” I asked as we were standing near the second door.
“Just Elijah, and now you. The servants who serve him alone stay in the rooms outside” She pointed towards the corridor from where we came.
“Only him and I?” I asked while swallowing hard getting nervous for no reason. I don’t know why my palms were sweaty saying that.
“Yeah, you know what does that means?” she asked while opening the door and pulling me inside.
“What?” I asked with wide eyes.
“Nobody will ever know what happened between you two behind those closed doors” She said talking in a hushed voice while pointing towards the main door of the chamber giving me the naughty look.
“Huh?” I swallowed again.
“Only if you want to share” She said grinning like a Cheshire cat while pinching my arm.
“Layla!” I said blushing crazily.
“I am kidding. You should have seen your face” She said laughing wholeheartedly.
“You are… such a bad girl” I took a deep breath while replying. I didn’t know I was holding my breath this whole time.
“You are such a cutie, Rose. You get scared at small things. It’s not like it’s not gonna happen between you two. Mating with your mate is the most important part of werewolves’ existence” She said honestly looking at me with sincere eyes.
I honestly liked the idea but I was feeling shy for the first time. My entire life I was bullying people with my dirty talk but I don’t know what happens to me when it comes to Elijah. I start acting feminine and timid. He is the only one who makes me feel this way.
“I know but I am a bit uncomfortable with it” I replied after censoring my thoughts.
“That’s a given. You guys just met a few days ago. Take your time. My cousin is a gentleman. I know he will make you feel comfortable before coming closer to you” She smiled with her shining eyes.
Well, I couldn’t tell her that I wanted to jump on him the moment he come back. I don’t want to ruin my good-girl image just yet.
“Thank you so much for helping me today” I thanked her genuinely feeling at ease in her presence.
“Oh please, we are family now. Don’t thank me. I am always available for you” She replied sincerely making my heart warm with her thoughtful words.
I felt my eyes become watery. I always wanted a sister, it’s not like I am being ungrateful towards Mark but I always wanted to share my deepest secret with a sister.
I always wanted my cousins to accept me like they accept Mark so that I can form such a bond with them but they were never open to such a relationship with me. I was always left alone. Hearing such words from her mouth made my heart giddy in happiness.
I couldn’t stop the tear from rolling down my cheek.
“Hey, are you crying? What happened? Did I say something wrong?” she asked immediately in worry.
“Look, I am sorry” She apologized without even thinking twice.
Can she get any more angelic?
“No.. No! No! Please don’t apologize. It’s just I always wanted a sister, I only have a brother, and your words were everything I wanted to hear this whole time” I honestly replied.
“Really? Me too! I am the youngest daughter in my family. I grew up with two big bros. Don’t get me wrong. Cora is my sister but she is a bit too young to share some of my deep emotions because she is just unable to understand them yet” Layla said holding my hand in hers.
“We can be sisters” I said happily.
“Oh hell yes” She replied, smiling widely but my foolish brain was still stuck at the sorrow in her eyes.
I knew I wouldn’t be able to survive one more minute without asking for the cause of pain in my newly made sister’s eyes. Hence, I gathered the courage to ask.
“Can I ask you something Layla?” I asked hesitatingly.
“Anything” She replied cheerfully.
“Don’t get me wrong. You are all nice and cheerful with me since the moment we met but all I can see is pain and sorrow in your eyes. Is something bothering you?” I asked and my question shocked her. She looked me directly in the eyes, no, she was staring at me blankly.
Did I offend her?
When she didn’t reply for a minute and continued staring at me, I added.
“I wanted to ask you from the start but I just thought it would be rude to ask such a personal question. If you don’t want to answer, it’s okay. But remember, I am also there for you always” I said giving tiny squeeze to her delicate shoulder.
“I am surprised that you noticed it” She said with a bitter smile.
I looked at her in confusion.
“I was trying to act cheerful and happy all day as it was your first day here but I guess, I am not that great of an actress” She said and now the pain in her eyes reflected in her sad smile.
“You did well. I really feel welcome because of you. It’s just, I couldn’t ignore the pain in your eyes and I am really sorry if my words hurt you” I replied already regretting my decision to ask her something that caused her sorrow.
“Oh no! Please don’t apologize. I am glad that you are not one of the people who ignore other people around them and are just full of themselves” Layla said with another sad smile on her beautiful face.
“Oh, I see. You can talk to me about anything. I will keep our conversations secret. I really don’t know anyone here so it is a given, I won’t be telling your secrets to anyone” I said meaning every word.
“I trust you, Rose. It’s weird but I do” Layla said frankly.
“Same here. The moment I met you, I felt this light and positive energy from your aura that I couldn’t help but feel comfortable around you” I replied honestly.
“Me too. I think we should open up more. I will go first, Elijah didn’t go out of station for a meeting” She said making me confused by her confession. Along with confusion came a million thoughts running in my mind.
I felt like my heart was pierced by a dagger. Did she lie to me? Then where did Elijah go?
“Is he out with another woman?” I spoke my thoughts loudly.
“No! You have such a wild imagination, Rose. Elijah went for a war” She replied making me scared out of my wits.
“WHAT? A war?”
