Chapter 957: Preparing to Escape

So, she needed to take this time to escape and avoid Leland Burns’ surveillance.
Where should she go?
Winifred Dawson looked at her left hand. The watch on her wrist was gone, and without the tracker, she could go anywhere and travel much farther than before without worrying about Leland Burns constantly watching her.
The watch was gone, but the scars on her wrist remained. Winifred Dawson touched the scars.
Facing Leland Burns, she had to be extremely cautious and well-prepared.
Leland Burns was more dangerous and terrifying than she had imagined. She thought there was no hope of seeing him again, and even if he came out, they would be like two parallel lines that never intersect.
But she hadn’t expected Leland Burns to get out so quickly. How could she fight against such overwhelming odds?
Winifred Dawson had no choice but to return to square one, continually evading and hiding. Only by avoiding Leland Burns could she find peace.
Winifred Dawson didn’t want to go abroad. She planned to withdraw as much money as possible from her accounts, although it was impossible to take out the entire amount, which totaled several billion dollars.
At least she wouldn’t have to worry about money for the next few years. With cash in hand, she could find a secluded place, create a false identity, and live a quiet life. Everything she currently owned had to be abandoned.
Winifred Dawson had made up her mind. On the third day after her miscarriage, she asked Mrs. Protich to handle the discharge procedures.
Mrs. Protich had just gone downstairs when she hurriedly returned to the ward: “Miss Dawson, guess who I saw.”
“Who?”
“Liam Burkhart. I saw Liam Burkhart downstairs in a wheelchair, wrapped in bandages from head to toe. He looked pale and gloomy; it was quite frightening.”
Hearing Liam Burkhart’s name made Winifred Dawson’s heart tighten instinctively. “He’s in this hospital too? Did he see you?”
Mrs. Protich shook her head: “I don’t think so. I hid as soon as I saw him. He seemed to be in serious condition with bodyguards around him. He appeared to be handling discharge procedures downstairs, and his car was outside the hospital.”
Why would someone so severely injured be discharged? Was there some unspeakable reason or trouble at home?
Winifred Dawson searched for recent news about the Burkhart family on her phone and found plenty of gossip. The Burkhart family had recently lost a lot of money in business deals, and news of Liam Burkhart’s hospitalization had leaked out, causing a stir among insiders.
It didn’t take much thought to realize that all of this was Leland Burns’ doing.
This time it was Liam Burkhart; next, it would be her turn.
She needed to prepare quickly while Leland Burns was still dealing with the Burkhart family.
Liam Burkhart’s injuries were inflicted by Leland Burns. Liam had previously suffered broken bones at his hands; this time, his right hand was severely injured with shattered finger bones. Since he wasn’t left-handed, his crippled right hand would make everything difficult for him in the future. His lower body was also severely injured.
This information came from entertainment media reports that Winifred Dawson read online.
Mr. Whitlock’s Hopes for Grandchildren Dashed#
If nothing unexpected happened, Liam Burkhart’s lower body would be permanently damaged. This news brought a faint cold smile to Winifred Dawson’s face.
Liam Burkhart being discharged now probably meant he was going home to help his father with company matters.
“Mrs. Protich, wait until they leave before handling my discharge procedures to avoid unnecessary trouble.”
Mrs. Protich felt a bit scared just mentioning Liam Burkhart and quickly nodded at Winifred Dawson’s words: “I understand; I’ll be careful.”
Mrs. Protich decided to wait a bit longer before handling the discharge procedures: “If Mr. Zhou and Mr. James were here, I’d feel much safer with them around. They were such a big help before…” Mrs. Protich muttered on the side while Winifred Dawson gradually tuned her out.
“Mrs. Protich, remember that relying on others is never as dependable as relying on yourself. Only by becoming strong can you avoid being bullied.”
Mrs. Protich opened her mouth but couldn’t argue back. She understood the principle but knew how difficult it was to truly break free from one’s social class and fight back against those more powerful.
She couldn’t understand why Winifred Dawson refused to seek help from those around her when it would make things so much easier. Henry and Wesley would certainly help if asked.
After all, during Winifred Dawson’s surgery, both men waited outside anxiously and were the first to inquire about her condition afterward.
Moreover, they stayed quietly in the ward while Winifred Dawson slept, showing genuine concern…
Mrs. Protich also sensed that something must have happened in the ward while she went out for buns yesterday because the atmosphere felt different when she returned, and Henry and Wesley left immediately afterward without coming back since.
If Henry and Wesley were here today, Mrs. Protich would feel more at ease handling the discharge procedures while knowing someone was watching over Winifred Dawson in the ward.
Seeing through Mrs. Protich’s thoughts, Winifred Dawson said: “I know it’s comfortable under a big tree’s shade, but flowers rarely bloom there.”
Mrs. Protich said nothing more and went downstairs around eleven o’clock; this time, she smoothly completed the discharge procedures.
Winifred Dawson called a ride-hailing service directly to Half City.
“Are we going back to Half City today? There’s still a lot of stuff at Seaview House,” Mrs. Protich said.
“It’s not like we can’t go back anytime we want; you have keys to that place,” Winifred Dawson replied.
Her tone suggested she wouldn’t be returning herself.
Fortunately, Half City had everything they needed; Winifred Dawson ordered groceries online which Mrs. Protich cooked upon delivery.
Winifred Dawson locked herself in her bedroom; Mrs. Protich was one of the few people who cared about her genuinely-she needed to ensure Mrs. Protich was taken care of before leaving herself behind completely empty-handed except for some insurance policies bought for Mrs. Protich along with donations made elsewhere-and gold bars purchased for future use if necessary when cash ran out someday soon enough…
Looking at her phone again confirmed where exactly she’d go next-J City seemed like an ideal destination after all…
