Chapter 113
Mistakes known.
Chris’ POV:
It three weeks ever since I stepped foot here and it has been awesome.
I woke up with a smile on my face, feeling a sense of contentment. It has been three weeks since I returned home, and everything has changed for the better.
My mom’s health is improving, and her smile is back, brighter than ever. Our home, once filled with tension and worry, is now filled with laughter and love.
I get out of bed, feeling a sense of purpose. I help my mom with her physical therapy, and we spend our days watching movies, playing games, and just enjoying each other’s company.
I have even started cooking her favorite meals, and our kitchen is once again filled with the aroma of delicious food.
As I look around our cozy home, I feel grateful for this second chance. I thought I would lose everything after what Megan did to me, but it turns out I was just getting a fresh start.
My mom’s recovery has given me a new lease on life, and I am determined to make the most of it.
I head to the kitchen to make breakfast, feeling a sense of joy and peace that I haven’t felt in a long time. Today is a new day, full of possibilities, and I’m ready to take it on with a heart full of love and gratitude.
“Chris!” Mother called when I served her meal.
“Why are you not back at work?” She asked me.
“I need to take care of you Mom!” I said.
“That is a lot better than bring at work, besides I am working from home!” I told her.
“That is fine!” Mother said.
“And Megan?” She asked as my face dropped.
“What is it, sweetie?” She looks at me with concern.
“We are not together anymore.” I took a deep breath before answering her.
“Oh, Chris, I am so sorry. What happened?” Mom asks surprised.
“It just didn’t work out. We wanted different things, and it was time to move on.” I shrug, trying to play it cool.
My mom’s eyes fill with understanding.
“I am sorry, Chris. I know how much you cared for her. But you deserve someone who makes you happy, and if it wasn’t her, then it is okay.” Mother said as we had our meal.
“Yeah, I know. I’m just glad we can still be friends.” I nod, feeling a sense of relief.
“You’re a great person, Chris. You’ll find someone who loves you for who you are.” My mom said squeezing my hand.
“Thanks, Mom. That means a lot to me.” I said.
While we were still having the conversation, there was a knock on the door.
“Who is that?” Mother asked me.
“I do not know!” I said.
“Could it be Jake?” She asked me.
“No, he has a lot of work to do. I do not think he will be here anytime from now!” I told her as I got to the door.
“Maya!” I said as I let the door opened.
“Chris!” She replied smiling.
“What are you doing here?” She asked me.
“I should be asking you that.” I said as I let her in.
“This is my mother’s house!” I replied.
“Oh really?” Maya asked me.
“I am here to help with her physical therapy!” She revealed.
“You mean you do that aside writing?” I marveled.
“Yeah!” She replied and went on to meet mother.
“You know, Chris, I have been thinking… it is time for you to meet someone new. Someone special.” My mom’s eyes sparkle with a knowing glint,
“Mom, I just got out of a relationship. I’m not looking for anyone new right now.” I raise an eyebrow and reply.
“Nonsense, sweetie. You’re young, and life is full of possibilities. Besides, Maya is already here.” But she’s not deterred, and she smiled mischievously.
“What do you mean she’s here?” I asked as I looked around, confused.
“She has been helping me with my physical therapy. She’s a wonderful person, and I think you two would really connect.” My mom gestures to the living room.
“Mom, you sneaky thing.” I said to her.
“Go talk to her, Chris. See if you two hit it off.” My mom laughs
“Mom, I already know Maya,” I say, trying to sound nonchalant.
“We’re friends, and I’m not really interested in getting to know her better than that.” I told her.
“Oh, Chris, I thought you two would really hit it off. She’s such a wonderful person.” My mom’s face falls, her eyes filled with disappointment.
“Yeah, she’s cool, but we’re just friends, Mom. I don’t see her in a romantic way.” I shrugged as I tried to downplay it.
My mom’s words strike a chord,
“I knew it, Chris. I knew your relationship with Megan wouldn’t last.” Mom said.
I raise an eyebrow,
“What do you mean? You thought we weren’t compatible or something?” I asked.
She shakes her head,
“No, sweetie. It’s just that Megan is a public figure, a celebrity. Her life is constantly in the spotlight, and that’s not an easy thing to deal with in a relationship.” I said.
I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. My mom, thinking Megan wasn’t good enough for me? It’s laughable.
I mean, Megan is smart, beautiful, and kind. She’s got a heart of gold and a smile that lights up a room.
What more could you want in a partner? But I guess my mom had her own ideas about what she wanted for me. Ideas that didn’t include Megan.
But I didn’t listen. I followed my heart, and I fell deeply in love with Megan. And for a while, it was amazing. We were happy, we were in love, and nothing else mattered.
But then, everything fell apart. And it wasn’t because of anything Megan did or didn’t do. It was because of circumstances beyond our control. And now, I’m left to pick up the pieces of my broken heart.
And you know what? I’m not even mad at my mom for saying that. I’m not mad because I realize that she was just trying to protect me, in her own way.
She was trying to shield me from the pain and heartache that she knew was possible.
But I’m also not going to forget the lesson I learned from all of this. That sometimes, you have to follow your own path, even if it means going against what others think is best for you. Because in the end, it’s your heart that matters most. And if you don’t listen to it, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.
