“She’s currently in talks with Chengyi Entertainment, Chinese Entertainment, and TEG,” Seneca Yayoi replied truthfully.
“She’s set her sights high by choosing to overlook the smaller entertainment agencies and courting these top entertainment agencies in the country. I wonder why she didn’t take a good look at herself before making this decision. Why would these entertainment agencies choose to sign her?” she added as she rolled her eyes.
“It’s hard to say,” Rosiley said as she shook her head at her friend’s contemptuous remark. “Don’t forget that Yunis has thrown his weight behind Rorey. And although the Ji Group doesn’t have any business interests in the entertainment industry, they are rather influential domestically. It would be easy for them to make anyone a star as long as they are willing to pay the price. Don’t underestimate Rorey either. She has used the family name to spend the past couple of years connecting with other influential movers and shakers. It wouldn’t be that difficult for her to stage a comeback.”
Seneca Yayoi frowned when she heard her friend’s analysis and asked, “What should we do? Are we just going to stand by and watch as she makes her comeback in the industry?”
“Yes, we’ll do that for now,” Rosiley said with an inscrutable expression as she blinked at her friend.
Seneca Yayoi looked at her doubtfully and asked, “Why do you look so calm? Have you got something up your sleeve?”
“Exactly. As I’ve said before, we have to act according to the situation. I wouldn’t be able to stop her from staging her comeback since the Ji Group would be able to bulldoze their way through faster than I can react. So…” she paused dramatically before she smiled brightly, “… I’ll wait for her to make her comeback. There’s no need to take her down right now anyway. Don’t forget, she has such a bad reputation right now that it won’t be that easy for her to gain much popularity. In that case, let’s wait for the right opportunity. Time is on our side.”
“You’re right! Let’s let her have her fun for the time being then,” Seneca Yayoi said.
They dropped this topic after they reached a common understanding. Seneca Yayoi gave her friend a pat on the shoulder and exclaimed in relief, “Rosiley, I’m happy to see that you’re back on your feet. I was worried that you’d have a breakdown because of what Yunis did to you.”
“Don’t underestimate me. Why should I beat myself up over a man who had betrayed me? I must say that I feel thankful to him because I wouldn’t have met someone else better otherwise,” she said. Her lips curved into a small at the mention of Sachin.
Seneca Yayoi nodded in agreement. “That’s right. I must say that your husband is extremely good-looking. Yunis can’t compare to him at all.”
Rosiley smiled and said, “I agree.”
Seneca Yayoi couldn’t help exclaiming, “I wish I could meet someone like him too!”
“What’s wrong? Are you picking on your man?”
“Yes, he really pales in comparison to Mr. Lu. I want to switch him out for a new one,” she said, half-joking, with a bright smile.
Rosiley didn’t take her seriously because she brushed it off as a joke. She laughed and shook her head, but didn’t say anything else.
She didn’t notice the flash of anguish that crossed Seneca Yayoi’s eyes as she said those words earlier.
Lina suddenly emerged from the management office while they were chatting happily and walked right up to Rosiley.
“Hello,” Rosiley and Seneca Yayoi quickly greeted her.
Lina acknowledged them with a nod and said solemnly, “There will be a gathering held for the management team tonight and four invites have been extended to the media division. Both of you are on the list, so let’s head there together after work.”
“A gathering for the management team?”
Rosiley and Seneca Yayoi froze in surprise and asked doubtfully, “Wouldn’t the invites only be extended to the management-level employees? Why have we been invited?”
“These are the instructions from management,” Lina said. She didn’t make any further explanation but she looked like she was about to say something else when her gaze drifted to Rosiley.
Rosiley frowned. She had clocked Lina’s expression and wanted to probe further when Lina turned and left. “In any case, just remember to show up tonight,” she said.
Seneca Yayoi immediately said, “I have a bad feeling about this.”
Rosiley looked at her friend and agreed as she pursed her lips. “Me too.”
“Will we be able to decline the invitation? I don’t want to go,” Seneca Yayoi said with a wry smile and frowned.
Rosiley looked at her friend and said coolly, “Do you dare to go against management’s orders?”
Seneca Yayoi sighed and said, “No.”
“Let’s go then. There’s nothing to be afraid of since it’s just a gathering. They couldn’t possibly eat us up.”
Rosiley, Seneca Yayoi, Lina, and Lonny made their way to the gathering together after work that evening.
It was held in a large private room in a luxurious hotel.
The room was very spacious and there were two round tables that could easily sit more than 30 people. They saw that many people had already arrived when they entered the room. They could tell that these people were all the senior management members of the firm. The turnout was impressive.
Seneca Yayoi took a deep breath, grabbed Rosiley’s arm, and said nervously, “My legs feel like they’re about to give way.”
Rosiley gave her hand a pat and said softly, “This is strange. Everyone present is either a manager or assistant manager, so what are we doing here?”
“That’s true. What’s going on?”
“I’m not sure either,” she said as she shook her head. But she remained unruffled and said, “Let’s observe the situation and avoid speaking unless necessary. We’ll have to adapt to the situation accordingly.”
“Sure.”
