I had come in with Jordan a few hours after feeling strange. The bond was telling us to go to her, and out of curiosity, I did. We felt a burst of power the moment we entered the mansion and went upstairs to their bedroom. Ember, Seth, and Carter were sleeping with a blue shimmering light surrounding them. It was unlike anything I had ever seen before. Jordan and I rushed to the figure bending over them, thinking they were about to attack them, when she turned around and raised her hand. She froze us in the midair, pausing our bodies. The wolf inside of us submitted to the presence easily.
“Selene”, she said in acknowledgment, before waving her hand and we fell to the floor. We saw the white eyes, and realized she must be using Agatha’s body, but the glow around her signified who she was, which is why we did not see Agatha clearly at first. We bowed in acknowledgment to our moon goddess, and she nodded before turning back to the others.
“Apologies”, Jordan said to her. I stayed silent. Observing. We saw her smile as she looked over at the other’s.
” None needed. You were doing what I would have expected you to do. Protecting your mate and your family. Especially at a time like now, when all three are at their most vulnerable”, she said in a soothing voice.
“Most vulnerable? What do you mean?” I asked.
“They have mated with my chosen one, and in doing so, are undergoing changes only Ember has the ability to create. You will learn these changes for yourself when you also complete your bond with her as well. “, she said before turning around to look directly at me. ‘
” You have made me most displeased with you, my son. Stop ignoring what you hear. I have mated you to her for a reason. There is a great darkness coming for her and she must be ready to fight. Complete the mate bond before the dark moon approaches, or all will fall”, she said, before nodding to Jordan and a bright glow enveloped her. When the light faded, only Agatha was left.
“I have instructions from Selene to let them sleep. We will not need to feed them or bathe them. The cocoon around them will keep their bodies clean and fill them with nutrients. They are to be left alone for another two days”, she said.
“Boys. Library. Now”, Jordan and I heard through our family link. It was both of our parents.
“Coming”, Jordan said as we came down the steps and into the house library. Agatha was behind us.
“Where are Carter, Seth, and Ember?”, Jessica asked.
“Just mated.” I told them. Mom growled but dad shot her a look, and she held her tongue.
“They are asleep. ” I told them. Ben nodded.
“If what we have read is true, they will sleep for three moons. ” Ben said. He slid a book across the table as we all took a seat. It was a black leather book with veins on it. The title of the book read, “Book of Alacai” in bright red. I could smell the blood from the letters.
“What is this?” I asked, looking up at Ben.
” I asked dad to bring it,” Jordan said, taking the book away from me.
“Page 84″, Jessica said. Jordan turned to it, and I saw some passages highlighted.
” The Chosen One”, Jordan read aloud. We shared a look.
“That is what Selene called her?”, I told them.
“Wait. Selene? Was she here?”, Jessica asked, with her eyes wide. Everyone knew it was rare for Selene to come to earth and that she only appeared to a certain few.
“Yes. She channeled me to check on Ember, Carter, and Seth”, Agatha said. I had almost forgotten she was there.
“Holy shit. Then the passages must be true. She is indeed the one the prophecy foretells.”, Jesscia said, sitting back more in her chair.
“The book is wrong.” mom said in annoyance.
“Read”, Ben said to Jordan, ignoring her. Jordan looked at the highlight parts.
“And so, the chosen one will appear. Blessed by both sides of war. Light and Dark. Love or Death. So, it will be. The Goddess of the earth realm. ” He said, and I raised an eyebrow. Goddess of the earth. Really? I said to myself. Sounds like bullshit to me. He went to another passage.
“From her change will come the dawn of the new age. The dawn of lycans, or the dawn of demons. Blood will flow from her, in the form of ichor. From her change, evil, the four horsemen of the coming war will come for her bloodline, with one blessed in the form of another mate bond, he read.
“You can’t really believe that that is true, can you?” I asked. Dad growled at me, and mom just smiled at me. I didn’t look at her. Her attacking Ember the other night and trying to cut away the bond still ate at me, knowing if she succeeded, it would have possibly killed us all.
“Listen boy”, was all dad said, and I shut up.
” War is coming, and the goddess stands in the middle of each side. Those who stand against her will feel her fury. Feel her wrath. Goddess of earth, blessed, in human form. For only through her, can she save the world, or end us all before the dark moon wanes”, Jordan read with a horrified look on his face. He looked up to Ben.
“How credible is this book?” He asked.
“I have contacted the Elder council to confer with the old spirit. They have reported the book is true and have required me to bring it to them at once since it was stolen from them over twenty years ago. ” Ben said. ” They have also asked if I hear gossip about her, then report it as well. They will want to control her powers if she is, indeed, the human goddess of earth. However, I have not and will not do that. She is now family”, he said, looking at Jordan, who was horrified at the thought of Ember being taken away. I was too against the idea.
” You are telling me that the… human… is a human goddess. Someone that has never existed before. If that book is credible, then she has the power to destroy us all”, mom said with wide eyes.
“The book also said save the world as well, Ruby”, Jesscia said with narrow eyes at her. I could tell they had been arguing previously from the looks they shared.
“With a fucking choice. I say we kill the bitch now, and take our chances with whatever is coming”, mom said.
“Ruby”, dad said in a warning tone. Two loud growls filled the room at her threat, and it took a moment before I realized one of them was mine.
“You will NOT dare to touch our mate, Ruby”, Jordan said, and for once I had to agree with him. The wolf in me was protective of Ember already and mom had just threatened to kill her. Plus, killing her would weaken our wolves. She looked at me in shock, surprised I would have growled at her.
“Damien, you of all people would have agreed with me. Has she dug her way into you as well”, mom asked me with narrowed eyes.
“If you touch her, we will not hold back from you, mother. Selene has given us our fucking mate and you would do well to remember that she…. is…. MINE”, I told her in a cold voice, and I meant every word of it, not even realizing what I had said about Ember. Mom’s eyes went wide again as we both realized what had just happened. Agatha, Ben, and Jessica just smiled at me. Jordan looked over at me too, and I could see a bit of shock and pride in his eyes. I had just officially acknowledged my claim to Ember as my mate and, from the buzz in the mate bond we felt, Ember somehow had accepted it. I heard Agatha’s voice in my head.
“And so it begins.”
