Chapter 924: Church Wedding

Book:Mr. Burns Is Killing His Wife Published:2024-6-21

“What am I afraid of? If you want to throw me out, go ahead. Either way, taking you down with me is no loss.”
Winifred Dawson was always skilled at provoking Leland Burns’ anger. Her tough nature made her fearless, even willing to anger two thugs to destroy her own wristwatch.
Back then, Leland Burns had doubted whether Winifred Dawson was playing the victim, but he chose to believe her. In his mind, Winifred Dawson was too delicate and afraid of pain to do such a thing. He never imagined she would act crazy, eat food off the ground, and call herself unloved trash.
How could the proud and dignified lady of Gentry Estate do such things?
However, reality proved that nothing was unchangeable. Time could erode stone and alter appearances; changing someone’s nature was not difficult.
Fueled by hatred, Winifred Dawson was capable of anything. Her goal was to see him dead, and for that goal, she would sacrifice anything-even her dignity.
Once he died, she would return to being the lady of Gentry Estate. The disgraceful acts she committed would be forgotten over time.
Leland Burns loathed the person in front of him. They both hated each other intensely. In their eyes, they saw a desire to tear each other’s throats out. Neither dared to back down.
They say love is priceless. If money could buy this relationship, Leland Burns would spend his entire fortune.
But Winifred Dawson didn’t care. Even if he offered all his wealth for her love, she wouldn’t give him a second glance. In this battle, from the moment he showed her any softness or reluctance, he had already lost. He wasn’t as heartless as Winifred Dawson; he couldn’t act as well as she did, even using her artistic hands against him.
To Winifred Dawson, Leland Burns’ feelings were worthless-cheap like trash.
Leland Burns gripped Winifred Dawson’s neck. In this situation, she couldn’t move and was at his mercy.
If Leland Burns truly wanted to throw Winifred Dawson out or do something else to her, he could easily do it.
Now a fugitive, Leland Burns had nothing left to lose. If the net was broken, the fish must die too.
He squeezed her neck hard, watching her pale face turn red and hearing her painful moans escape her parted lips. Tears welled up in her tightly shut eyes.
With just a bit more force, he could kill her here and become a death row inmate instead of just a fugitive.
It made little difference to him. But thinking about never seeing Winifred Dawson again after killing her here made him hesitate… for some reason, he couldn’t bear it.
Suddenly realizing Winifred Dawson was right about one thing-he was pathetic. Facing a woman who constantly wanted him dead and toyed with him through endless acting, he still couldn’t bring himself to do it.
He regretted not buying some drug to make her mentally incapacitated back then; maybe those few months of happiness would have been real?
The pressure on her neck suddenly released. Cold air rushed into her lungs as Winifred Dawson clutched her aching throat, coughing and gasping for breath. Her vision blurred from black to white due to oxygen deprivation; she had almost thought she was going to die just now. She never doubted Leland Burns’ ruthlessness nor her importance in his eyes.
No one is unafraid of death-not even Winifred Dawson. She had endured so much just to eliminate Leland Burns and ensure a worry-free future for herself. This was only the beginning… how could it end prematurely?
When Leland Burns released his grip, Winifred Dawson’s heart relaxed slightly; it proved she had gambled correctly.
“Why didn’t you continue? Go ahead and strangle me here,” she taunted coldly.
“Don’t provoke me; otherwise, I might really kill you here.” Only Winifred Dawson-only she-dared rely on his feelings for her like this. Leland Burns felt pathetic and ridiculous-even pitiful-less than a dog who would bite back when pushed too far.
Winifred Dawson’s body was weak from the lingering effects of the drug and nearly being strangled unconscious again; she couldn’t even muster the strength to sit up.
In the end, Leland Burns pulled her into his arms and gripped her waist tightly.
Winifred Dawson lacked the energy to speak; her mind was muddled and couldn’t grasp the situation’s direction clearly. Was Leland Burns planning to take her away as a hostage after drugging and tying her up on a helicopter?
It seemed reasonable but not quite right. With all this fanfare-making her wear a wedding dress and makeup-it felt more like fulfilling a final wish before dying rather than escaping.
Thinking about it gave Winifred Dawson a headache; she couldn’t focus anymore. Finally, the helicopter hovered above a church as they descended. She realized this was where Leland Burns intended to hold their wedding ceremony-he had brought her into this sacred place after all.
