Chapter 911: Going to Work Together

“Baby?” Winifred Dawson asked, “Am I important to you?”
Faced with such an “innocent” Winifred Dawson, Leland Burns patiently explained, “Very important, especially important. After all, you’re the one I want to kiss before I sleep and when I wake up.” Even in dreams, she was the one he desired most.
Leland Burns’s body was warm. He gently held Winifred Dawson in his arms, warming her hands. Seeing the sparkle in her eyes, he couldn’t resist kissing her lips more deeply as they leaned against the headboard.
The next day, when Leland Burns woke up, he instinctively looked at Winifred Dawson in his arms. As if afraid he would leave without a word, her hand clung to his shirt.
Her injured hand couldn’t grip tightly and could be easily shaken off. Leland Burns gently released her hand and prepared to get up to wash without disturbing Winifred Dawson’s sleep. But as soon as he moved, she woke up.
“Are you going out again?”
“Yes, but today I’m taking you with me.” He had promised her last night that he would take her to work from now on.
Winifred Dawson immediately cheered up and got out of bed to wash without needing any coaxing.
After breakfast, Leland Burns took Winifred Dawson to the car.
The drive to the company took only half an hour. The driver was surprised to see an extra person in the car. After all, yesterday Leland Burns had ignored Winifred Dawson’s attempts to catch up with him and coldly told the driver not to stop.
But now, just a day later, Leland Burns was bringing her to the company.
Ha, a man who says one thing but means another.
Seeing them cuddling in the car made the driver feel a bit envious. He focused on driving seriously.
At the company’s entrance, Leland Burns got out holding Winifred Dawson’s hand. They walked in together, attracting a lot of attention along the way.
It wasn’t surprising that the employees were shocked. Leland Burns had never been seen with a woman before; even his assistants and secretaries were all men.
It wasn’t that he wasn’t interested in women; it was just that none of them met his standards until now.
High standards indeed for Mr. Burns.
And now he was openly showing affection by bringing someone into the company.
Along the way, employees greeted Leland Burns and curiously glanced at Winifred Dawson, unsure how to address her.
Leland Burns walked quickly, holding Winifred Dawson’s hand all the way.
One might have thought Winifred Dawson would be scared facing so many people, but she smiled brightly and said she liked it here because it was lively.
Leland Burns brought her to his office. He liked overseeing everything from above, so his office was on the top floor with a large floor-to-ceiling window. From there, people below looked like ants.
Winifred Dawson was a bit afraid of heights and didn’t dare stand by the window.
The desk was large. While Leland Burns worked nearby, worried she might get bored, he handed her a tablet from his drawer to play games on.
Not knowing what games Winifred Dawson could play now, he downloaded a fruit-slicing game for her.
The 12-inch tablet was bigger than Winifred Dawson’s face and quite heavy for her weak hands. She placed it on the desk to play.
Leland Burns went to a temporary meeting. Naturally, he couldn’t take Winifred Dawson with him. Seeing she was engrossed in her game, he told her he would be back soon. She responded with an “Mm,” eyes still on the screen-whether she heard him or not was unclear.
How long had it been? The tablet seemed more important than him? Feeling a bit jealous, Leland Burns instructed his assistant to keep an eye on Winifred Dawson outside the door and not let her wander around.
The secretary followed him into the meeting room with files and a laptop.
Not long after Leland Burns left, Winifred Dawson put down the tablet and stretched her sore hands. She curiously glanced around and flipped through some documents on the desk before putting them back. She logged into an account on the tablet…
Three or four minutes later during the meeting, Leland Burns found himself distracted by thoughts of Winifred Dawson. He worried about her being alone in his office and whether she cried if she didn’t see him.
Glancing at his watch and finalizing some project plans quickly, he immediately left the room.
Seeing him rush out so quickly left everyone surprised.
“Why did Mr. Burns leave so fast? That’s not like him.”
“I heard he brought a woman today.”
“A woman? Could it be that woman from the club last time? He even offended Liam Burkhart for her; Liam is still in a wheelchair because of him.”
“That must be it. After all, I’ve only seen one woman appear by Mr. Burns’s side.”
Thinking of Winifred Dawson made Leland Burns quicken his pace towards the elevator. His assistant stood straight at the door as he opened it and scanned the office with furrowed brows. “Where is she?”
“Ah…” The assistant looked inside; surprisingly, Winifred Dawson wasn’t there.
Cold sweat broke out on his forehead as he stammered under Leland Burns’s icy gaze: “I’ve been standing outside all along; Miss Dawson didn’t come out.”
