The Narrator:
As we continued listening to the statements, it came out that Reyner recommended to Silvia, Milko’s young wife, to hire Josefina Rondon, as domestic service. She hired her to please what she thought was a good friend.
This vulgar delinquent had the objective of eliminating the tycoon, so that Reyner could enjoy his fortune. For this, she required the help of her two inseparable friends and accomplices: Popeye and Brutus.
These were two criminals who were part of Josefina’s gang, alias Chepa Rondon. They were brought to Ciudad La Rosa, simultaneously with her, to end Milko’s life. Therefore, it was Reyner who paid all the expenses for their trip, transfer and lodging in the city.
The three of them were accomplices in all the crimes of robbery, swindling and fraud committed on the Island. In addition, she ran a brothel and practiced the oldest profession in the world: prostitution.
According to Brutus’ statements, Reyner was Chepa’s lover and father of her only daughter Mirelys. And even his initial plan was to keep Milko’s widow and fortune. However, when she started working at the Zambrano mansion, she changed her plans, feeling attracted to the tycoon.
Chepa became infatuated with him and changed all the rules of the game, since he ordered them to break the brakes of Silvia’s car when he saw that she could not get Milko’s attention. She died in the accident. However, her son, who was in the back seat, survived, being rescued by the same criminals.
Reyner was furious with Chepa because he wanted Milko’s wife. However, when he was threatened by Chepa with bringing his plans to public light, they negotiated with the boy and he accepted the new conditions imposed by her.
She took advantage of Milko’s suffering, got him drunk and managed to sneak into his bed. After a month of this, she announced a pregnancy and managed to marry him.
Unfortunately, Chepa eventually grew bored with Milko. While she was his wife, she kept several lovers, until she decided to end her life.
Reyner, had adopted Martin, to make sure that when Chepa’s daughter was DNA tested, they would take samples from his own son. In this way, there would be no doubt that the child was Milko’s and therefore, his heir.
Rafael:
“To say that I was astonished was an understatement. I myself could not believe everything that woman did, no wonder that the daughter, entangled my mother, as she pleased” I reflected, thanking God, that the only thing she lost was material things and not her life.
We also listened to the statement made by Milko’s chauffeur and the housekeeper of his mansion. From there, everything came together perfectly, even though there are still things to be clarified. In any case, it was clear that the child was Martin Elias.
“I left the delegation with Martin and took him to the mansion. When we arrived, we were greeted by my children, who upon hearing my voice, ran to the reception room. They greeted me with a kiss and a hug and then Martin, whom they called uncle.”
-How have they been behaving? -asked Martin.
-Very well, uncle! -They answered in unison.
-I’m glad they are so extraordinary! -he added, walking towards Sheyli.
-How are you feeling? -he asked with a smile.
-Tired and sleepy! However, everything can be overcome,” she answered and smiled mischievously, “And you?
-I can’t tell you how I feel at the moment! However, when I woke up, I was happy,” he added, without further explanation, caressing her cheek, which she did not avoid.
We went to the terrace, where I served a whiskey to my friend, so that he could finish this bitter drink that we had just received.
-Thank you, my friend! -he said.
-I will always be here to support you, because you are more than a friend to me, you are my brother! -I assured him.
-Thank you, Rafael! I am immensely grateful to you, because if it weren’t for you, I would still be bursting my head, looking for an explanation for the treatment of me… of Reyner towards me, or to find something in common between them and me,” he said.
“Now I understand the discriminatory treatment, between your two sons, and me,” he said, letting his tears flow.
-Unburden yourself, my friend! Nobody will bother us here,” I told him.
This was a hard blow for Martin, since he grew up in a world of lies, falsehoods and delinquents. Reviewing the summary of that family group, none of them passed an evaluation of honesty and uprightness.
-Be thankful, Martin, that you don’t have their genes! -I affirmed, to encourage him.
“They are jewels! -Yoly, in a coma, sentenced to a long sentence for the kidnapping of Sofia; Jose David, imprisoned for domestic violence and attempted murder of his own son, unaware of any other crime. And the father, among other crimes, a murderer.
-How right you are! What a family! -He exclaimed angrily. “And you can’t imagine the way they express themselves about others, because according to them, they are perfect,” Martin replied.
-The best thing that could have happened to you is not having a drop of blood from those delinquents,” I told him, “They are real monsters!
-You’re right, my friend, all three of them are monsters! I never imagined that there would be people as cruel and perverse as them,” Martin acknowledged.
Today, I thank God that out of a rage with Reyner, he made me leave the Island and make my way, alone, on my own, here in Ciudad La Rosa,” he said.
-It was the best thing God could do for you! -I assured him, “To get away from such vermin, worse human beings, they can’t be.
-Yes! Do you know when the trial will begin? I want to be there,” he demanded.
-They will let us know. And of course you’ll be there! All of them should give you back what they stole from you,” I confirmed.
-It hurts Rafael! I feel strange, it’s as if I was born today,” he said, letting out a repressed cry.
-I understand you, Martin! And obviously, it must hurt you, how some bastards, just for whim and for stealing what someone else worked for, created, were capable of ending your parents’ lives! -I judged.
-Help me, Rafael! Let them all pay for these crimes they committed, let none of them go unpunished.
-That’s how it’s going to be! I promise,” I assured him, patting him on the back, handing him another glass of whiskey.
-Thank you! Will your lawyers help me sort it all out?
-Yes! I’ve already arranged it with them. They’ll get you up to speed on what’s part of your estate. Remember, Josefina or Chepa, as they call her, auctioned off the vineyards and the importer,” I explained.
“I acquired them! Through Leonel, because it seemed like a good deal, only that they were in very bad hands. We will wait for all this to be cleared up and there is no problem for me to give you back what belongs to you,” I added.
“In any case, that will be taken care of by my lawyers,” I confessed.
-As long as you get back what you paid for it! -he pleaded.
-Calm down, Martin! I won’t let anyone take what is yours.
An hour later, we were all together as a family, having lunch, enjoying the witticisms of my three precious children. Sofia had been busy solving a problem through a video call, about some containers held in one of the Eastern Islands, for supposedly containing prohibited merchandise.
Once lunch was over, Sofia asked me to accompany her to the office and there she filled me in on everything. She was very worried, however, I will not allow this to distract her from the preparations for our religious wedding.
Sofia:
-That was Jose David’s work, my love, even though the containers are in Shayla’s name, I put my hands on fire for her.
“Shayla is an honest woman, who unfortunately, fell in love and because of this, she was easy prey for that delinquent -I angrily asserted, convinced that she had nothing to do with that…
