“Alliances with other packs??? I don’t understand any of this, sire… what exactly happened on the battlefield?”
“You wish to know what happened? Very well then… I’ll tell you what happened. We were winning… we had them at their weakest point… they were defenseless with very few soldiers… I was just one step away from getting the silver alpha’s head, but then suddenly, they had reinforcements… two other packs suddenly came to help them with their troops… out of nowhere, and guess what? One of them just happens to be yours.”
“The night shadow pack? Walden never had any alliance with alpha Damian… I can bet on my life that the two of them do not even go along so well…”
“Then what about the other pack…? The red moon pack??? Their alpha had also sent men along with your night shadow troops…”
“Alpha Damian does have an alliance with Jireh… but I didn’t think it was relevant enough to tell you… the red moon’s army is the weakest… they would have never been able to offer full assistance to the silver pack without the night shadow army…”
“I don’t care about any of that, Samara!!! What I really want to know is how they found out about our plans… no one! Absolutely no one outside my pack except you knew of this intended battle. They all thought I was to attack the Lotus pack! That’s the way it should have been until they would find out about the silver pack’s colonization… so I want to know how they found out, and if you want to make it out of here alive, Samara… you’d better start telling the truth!!!”
Rakur’s whole face was reddened. He meant every word he said, as when she hesitated to speak, she saw his men begin to surround her, ready to pounce on her….
“Wait!” She begged. “I’ll talk!”
“You’ll talk!? So, you did it, huh? You were the one who betrayed us by telling your alpha of our intended surprise attack!”
She shook her head… “I would never do that… not even on my life! Why would I risk my life… or even waste my time by coming here if I would betray you in the end? Does that even make sense?”
“Tell me what makes sense about the fact that we were supposed to have our victory by now, but for the mouth of a certain someone who failed to keep quiet!”
Rakur was waiting for her confession… Samara didn’t know what to say…. Except for the truth.
“The last time… I came here… I was followed.”
“Followed? By who?”
“I didn’t know that Walden’s sister, the alpha’s princess had followed me to our meeting point. She overheard our conversation and went to report the whole thing to her brother immediately.”
“So, if I’m not mistaken, Walden now knows you’re a traitor… now you’ll tell me how it’s possible that you’ve not yet been executed by this time.”
“Walden puts so much trust in me… he hardly believes the words of that spoilt brat he has for a sister. He must have only believed the part about the battle and decided to help the silver pack.”
“But you said just now that the silver and night shadow alpha do not get along at all… Walden should have been thrilled that his rival was about to be taken down… why then did he decide to help him?”
“It’s a complicated situation, but then I’ll explain it.”
“You better start explaining if you value your life, Samara.”
“Alpha Damian’s current mate… the one I wish to kill, Miranda… happened to be Walden’s former lover. Miranda married Damian after their relationship crashed, but then… Walden never fully got over his feelings for the Lotus alpha. He loves her so much even until after her marriage… he would have been willing to sacrifice anything for her, even his army…”
“So, you’re trying to tell me that you were not the one who ruined our plans?”
“I would never do that! It was Walden’s foolish sister who…”
“That does not vindicate you, Samara! You are still equally to blame for what happened. Because of you… because of your carelessness by leading her here… I had no choice but to retreat or risk losing my army.”
“I am sorry, sire… I swear I…”
“Your apology does not fix anything! Your apology cannot bring back the men I’ve lost today… your apology cannot give me another chance to taste victory the way I almost did today.”
“I promise that I will be more careful, we can resume planning for another attack. This time, it will be…”
“We will not be resuming anything, Samara…! I’m surprised that you are not even kneeling on the floor right now, begging for your life when that’s what you should be doing… you don’t know how much it hungers me to slice that throat of yours with my claws.”
“Why did she have to come alone today…? Fear seeped through her insides so much that she didn’t waste time in dropping to the floor on her knees…”
“I’m sorry… I should have been more careful… please, forgive me and spare my life, sire,” she begged.
“You are a fool for what you did, Samara. And you are an even bigger fool for thinking that I would even want to have anything to do with you after this.”
“I am sorry, partner…”
“Do not dare to call me that!”
“Sorry, sire… please… do not be mad at me… I promise that I’ll do anything I can to fix this… I promise that with my help, you will not only taste victory, but you will also achieve it as well… I made a mistake, and I am sorry for it. Please…”
“For the sake of our former agreement, I will spare your life…”
“Thank you.”
“Do not thank me yet, Samara. For as from now on, you are no longer welcome to my lands… if I ever catch you on rogue territory, I will not spare you.”
“Sire, I…”
“Do not test me, Samara. You have been warned. Stay away.”
With that, Rakur and his men took their wolf forms and left a confused Samara kneeling there on the floor. How could this have happened? They were so close… so close…
Sandy.
Samara hates her so much now, it’s all because of her. It’s so tempting to make her disappear, but she can’t do that for the sake of Walden, she will just have to be patient. But this… she is most certainly not going to give up because of this.
