It had been an unproductive day, as no matter how hard they tried to think, it didn’t bring them any closer to the truth. After a few hours, Walden then decided to postpone the investigation, as there were plenty of court matters awaiting him on ground.
“I think we should try again tomorrow,” he said. “We’ll think on all we’ve discussed today for the night and then by tomorrow our minds would’ve been refreshened.”
“I agree,” Samara added. “I know that there’s something I’m forgetting, maybe we’ll have more luck by tomorrow.”
Damian got up, “ok then, please Samara… take your time to think on all we’ve discussed tonight so we can continue tomorrow.” And with that, he left the court, not even sparing a glance in his mate’s direction.
Miranda wasn’t at all pleased with the cold attitude Damian was throwing at her. Nothing had happened between her and Walden last night, and whether Damian stepped in or not, nothing would’ve happened. She would never cheat on him no matter how bad things got between them. Why does he find it so hard to believe her?
Enough is enough! She needs to clear things out with him, she missed him, and he needs to know how sincere her feelings are for him. She might have been unsure about it for a second, that second when Walden came into her room, but now her mind is much clearer. She and Damian need to talk. She got up, leaving Walden and Samara in the court and went after him.
“Damian!” She called.
He heard her voice, but he didn’t answer, just continued walking his way.
“Damian! Please… just listen to me!” She tried again. When she figured that calling behind him was not leading anywhere, she quickened her pace, running to the front to stand in his way.
Upon seeing that she’d blocked his path, he had no choice but to speak to her, “what is it, Miranda?”
“Really? You’re asking me what? Like you don’t know what’s been going on? You don’t know the reason why you’re being such a jerk to me???”
“Miranda…”
“Damian, I would never cheat on you with Walden! If that’s what you want to hear. I would never ever cheat on you with anyone! There’s no other man that I think about. There is no other person that my heart beats for! And do you know the only pain I feel right now? It’s that you don’t have any trust in me… you think that if I had the chance, I would hurt you that much…”
“Miranda…”
“Please Damian… stop pushing me away! Stop hurting me…!!! What you saw was not real! It will never be!!!”
He bent his head, “the truth is, Miranda… I’ll never know, I’ll never know what would have happened if I didn’t come into your room yesterday…”
His words not only surprised her, but also multiplied the pain she felt in her heart, when she finally found her voice, she said, “you don’t… you don’t trust me…. You never did!”
“Miranda, I never said that…”
“Of course, you did! You said it just now, it means you don’t have faith in me. You believe that I would hurt you the first chance I get!”
The situation was getting out of hand, he didn’t know what to say to her anymore, he didn’t know what he could say now to fix this.
“I’m sorry, Miranda.”
She shook her head, wiping her eyes, “no… you shouldn’t be. I can see that a lot of things changed in the past 20 years, but the only thing that remained the same was your heart; cold and dark as ever.”
And with that, she walked out on him.

“Urghhh! So, you mean to tell me that you’ve not been able to get anything on those four packs??? Nothing at all? Even after last night?”
“Calm down Damian, I’m sure that if Samara remembered something, she would have told you by now,” Walden huffed.
Upon realizing his tone, Damian took a seat, “I’m sorry,” he muttered. “I just don’t like for us to waste the little time we have. We weren’t able to achieve anything yesterday, I didn’t want today to end the same way.”
Walden thought, “It seems strange that any of those four pack leaders would want to harm me for any reason, I’ve never had an encounter with any of them at all. I barely even know them.”
Miranda decided to ask some questions then, as she rarely contributed, “what packs have you encountered? And what kind of encounters where they?”
“Extreme ones, mainly land disputes. If it weren’t for the situations then, it could have even led to war, but I never had issues with any of those four packs, that’s why there wasn’t any need for a treaty between us in the first place, because we were already at peace.”
“What about the other seven packs?”
Walden nodded, “those were the main packs we had disputes with… but now all that’s been resolved. My father signed the last treaty with the seventh pack before he died… the red moon pack’s alpha Jireh.
“Wait…” Samara suddenly got up from her seat, as if receiving some kind of inspiration…
“What? What is it???” Damian inquired desperately.
“That’s the name of the pack… the red moon alpha is the one who kidnapped us.”
Damian rose a brow… “the red moon alpha? But Walden just mentioned his father signing a treaty with them… why would he want to go against their agreement?”
A light bulb went off in Miranda’s head then, “what if…? What if all was not settled in the alpha Jireh’s mind? He might have plans of overtaking the disputed land back by killing Walden, he knows he’ll get what he wants then.”
“But he’s a coward that can’t do it in the open, he sends thugs to do his dirty work in secret.”
Damian rose up from his seat with a smirk, “that will be all for today. We can rest now. Tomorrow, Walden and I will be paying alpha Jireh a visit.”
