Chapter 38
The sun rose brightly into Javier’s room, casting a warm glow as Natalie stirred on the bed, still half-asleep. She let out a soft yawn, her eyes fluttering open as she took in her surroundings.
The rumble of her stomach jolted her awake, reminding her that she was not in her own home but in Javier’s. She looked around the room, taking in the white decor and neatly arranged furniture, realizing that white must be his favorite color.
A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts, announcing that breakfast was ready. “I’ll be down in a minute,” she called out, running a hand through her hair. As the footsteps faded away, she stood up from the bed, unsure of what to do next.
She was unsure of what to do, feeling regretful for sending Javier out of his room. She realized that she should have been the one to leave, as it was his room.
The door suddenly burst open, revealing Fabby, who walked gently into her brother’s room. Natalie turned at the sound of the door, and saw a cute little girl with furrowed brows and curious blue eyes standing in front of her.
“Who are you?” Fabby asked shyly, looking down at her feet.
Natalie smiled softly, crouching down to Fabby’s height and reaching out to smooth her hair. “You can call me Natalie, but my friends call me Nat,” she said, raising her gaze to meet Fabby’s eyes.
Natalie couldn’t help but notice that Fabby looked like a female version of Javier, with the only difference being the color of their eyes. They seemed like siblings.
“That’s a nice name, you look pretty. Can I be your friend?” Fabby asked eagerly, running to hug Natalie, surprising her.
Natalie could tell that there was a strong connection between them, and she quickly grew fond of Fabby’s sweetness. “You never told me your name,” Natalie said, pulling away from the hug and pouting her lips while blinking rapidly.
Fabby burst into laughter at Natalie’s funny expression, then stopped abruptly and cleared her throat. “My name is Fabby. I’m five years old and I’m the prettiest princess of the mansion,” she introduced boldly, which made Natalie laugh at her confidence and carefree attitude.
“So, what brings the prettiest princess to my room?” Natalie teased, standing up and sitting on the bed.
“I…” Fabby started to say before someone opened the door, interrupting her.
“Fabby, out!” Javier commanded loudly, pointing to the door.
Fabby’s smile disappeared instantly, replaced by a hard frown as she rolled her eyes. “I came to inform you that breakfast is ready,” she grumbled in a low voice before walking out of the room and closing the door behind her.
Natalie turned her attention to Javier, who acted as if she had never been there, walking past her and entering the bathroom. Within five minutes, he emerged fully dressed in casual attire to join Natalie in the spot where he had left her.
He disregarded her and left the room to join the others downstairs for breakfast. He was hungry from drinking a lot of alcohol the day before and didn’t even look at her before exiting the room.
Natalie scoffed loudly and went into the bathroom where she had seen Javier come out from. She quickly took a shower and then emerged wrapped in a towel. Without hesitation, she locked the door for privacy.
After putting on a short flared dress, she left the room and went downstairs. There, she encountered a maid standing in front of her, and she wondered who the maid was.
“I’m here to show you to the dining room, please follow me,” the maid finally spoke and began leading the way, with Natalie following behind.
After a minute, they arrived in a large room where everyone was gathered around a table filled with unfamiliar food. The sight made Natalie’s mouth water, and she quickly sat down next to Carlo.
To everyone’s surprise, Fabby stood up and ran to meet Natalie, pulling her to sit beside her. Everyone was shocked, questioning if their eyes were playing tricks on them at Fabby’s unexpected gesture towards Natalie.
“Baby, are you okay?” Elvis was the first to speak, unable to contain his curiosity.
Fabby turned to face Elvis, understanding his concern, and then playfully rolled her eyes before turning her attention back to Natalie. She quickly pushed her plate of food towards Natalie, who looked puzzled.
“Feed me, Aunt Nat,” Fabby said, once again surprising everyone who was still recovering from the initial shock.
Everyone was amazed at how Fabby had changed overnight. It was well-known that Fabby preferred to do things independently and had insisted on feeding herself since she turned four, refusing any help from Helen or the nanny.
Natalie smiled and started feeding Fabby, who happily enjoyed her meal.
Olivia struggled to contain her anger, unable to bear the sudden display of affection from Fabby towards Natalie, whom she was certain Fabby didn’t know. She was puzzled by Fabby’s sudden change in behavior towards Natalie, especially considering her usual attitude towards Olivia, which was quite the opposite.
Olivia’s fingers clenched tightly in her lap, her anger growing at the sight of Natalie. She couldn’t believe she had lost to her. ‘Enjoy it while you can, Nat. I will make sure you regret this,’ Olivia thought, a smirk playing on her lips.
Natalie felt Olivia’s intense gaze on her but chose to ignore it, focusing instead on feeding Fabby. However, she decided to play a little game. Standing up, she ran over to Javier and signaled for him to adjust his position.
Javier was puzzled by Natalie’s actions, unsure of why she was blinking at him. He looked away, waiting for her to approach.
“Darling, are you still upset about last night?” Natalie pouted, surprising Javier as he stared at her in disbelief. She continued, “You shouldn’t be mad at your wife, you know,” as she smoothed his hair and leaned in to kiss his forehead.
Olivia’s breath hitched as she tightened her grip on the fork. Carlo noticed her anger and placed a calming hand on hers. After a moment, Olivia’s breathing steadied, and she stood up abruptly, leaving the dining room, surprising everyone.
