Chapter 1227 Down the Well

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-8

This well was called the “Concubine Pearl Well” because it was where Concubine Pearl was drowned.
There was definitely something strange about this place, but Divine Awareness detected nothing unusual. Leo felt uneasy and decided to leave with Sophia.
Just as Leo was about to take Sophia’s hand, she suddenly rushed forward and jumped into the well.
Sophia’s figure disappeared into the well with a scream.
Leo was shocked and, without hesitation, leaped in after her.
Amazingly, instead of falling rapidly, their descent felt like an elevator ride, neither too fast nor too slow.
Upon landing, it was pitch dark. Leo immediately found Sophia beside him and grabbed her hand, asking worriedly, “Why did you jump into the well?”
“I… I don’t know,” Sophia trembled, seemingly frightened. “It felt like my body wasn’t under my control…”
Leo tightened his grip on her hand and reassured her, “It’s okay, don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
Soon, Leo noticed something odd: there was no water in the well.
Could it have dried up?
Taking out his phone and turning on the flashlight, Leo discovered not only was there no water, but there was also a passage leading somewhere unknown.
The well was completely dry, and the flashlight couldn’t illuminate very far; the passage remained shrouded in darkness.
Leo speculated that Sophia’s jump might have been influenced by some mysterious force.
Looking at the passage inside the well, Leo knew there must be more to it.
He said to Sophia, “Sophia, stay behind me. Let’s go in and take a look.”
Sophia held Leo’s hand tightly and nodded nervously.
Using his phone to light the way, Leo led Sophia into the passage.
The passage was not damp at all; there were no traces of moss either.
The walls were made of some kind of green stone, with no signs of artificial carving.
After walking for about five or six minutes, they entered a stone chamber.
Leo first used Divine Awareness to scan the surroundings and quickly noticed something unusual about the chamber.
In the center stood a statue over three meters tall. Apart from that, there was nothing else.
The statue wasn’t of a person but of a giant serpent coiled around a dead tree branch.
The serpent had its mouth wide open, tongue flicking out, facing the entrance of the chamber.
The phone’s flashlight wasn’t as powerful as a spotlight, so Sophia could only vaguely see a shadow ahead, unclear about what it was.
After placing a Vajra Protection Talisman on Sophia, Leo said, “Sophia, stay here and don’t move. I’ll go check it out.”
Feeling the eerie atmosphere around her, Sophia couldn’t help but feel nervous and scared. But thinking of Leo’s extraordinary abilities, she forced herself to stay calm and reminded him, “Be careful.”
Leo handed her the phone for light and then approached the serpent statue.
Divine Awareness had fully enveloped the chamber and detected no danger.
However, the closer Leo got to the serpent statue, the stronger his sense of unease became.
It felt like trying to open a box found in a graveyard-uncertain of its contents but driven by an overwhelming curiosity to find out.
The only sound in the chamber was Leo’s soft footsteps.
To prepare for any sudden changes, Leo had already activated his Spiritual Power.
When he was just three meters away from the statue, he heard a soft “swish” sound. Leo immediately rolled to the ground.
Thankfully, he had been on high alert; otherwise…
Cold sweat broke out on Leo’s forehead. The “swish” sound had clearly been an attack.
Standing still, Leo took out a Talisman from his pocket and cast it.
The Talisman emitted a golden light and flew rapidly towards the serpent statue.
A blinding white light exploded in the chamber, making it as bright as day. The serpent statue looked terrifyingly menacing to the naked eye.
Three seconds later, darkness returned to the chamber, but the serpent statue in front of Leo had vanished.
