There were also five or six white ambulances parking on the road. Angels in bloody white clothes—the doctors and nurses, carried the wounded on stretchers and put them into the cars.
On the ground lay a number of injured people who were screaming in pain. Three buses were lying on their sides in the emergency lane.
“Leaking gasoline could explode in the heat at any moment. What are you doing here?” A traffic officer yelled at Zhong Teng.
Zhong Teng took out his business card:” I’m sorry, but my wife and children are on one of the buses and I don’t know if they’re alive or dead.”
The officer didn’t stop him. He turned to the recorder and asked for the casualty list. After checking the list, he didn’t found people that Zhong Teng was looking for.
“You can go out now. We’ll inform you as soon as possible if we find your families.” The traffic policeman righteously asked Zhong Teng to leave.
Zhong Teng still wanted to stay. He had to see Mo Xiaomo and Qingbao otherwise he couldn’t let go.
In other words, he must see with his own eyes that they were safe then he could rest assured.
“Daddy?” A familiar voice sounded in the police car not far away.
Zhong Teng stared, a little dirty face staring at him in surprise.
“Qingbao!” Choking up, Zhong Teng ran to the car window and touched the face.
Zhong Teng’s heart ached when he saw the bloody Zhong Tengs on his face causing by the broken glass.
“Where’s your mommy?”
Zhong Teng’s voice was hoarse for repressed panic.
Qingbao crumpled his mouth and the tears were rolling in his eyes.
Zhong Teng’s blood stopped flowing. He looked at Qingbao in astonishment, afraid that he might miss his facial expression.
“Where is she?” repeated Zhong Teng, his mouth trembling uncontrollably.
Qingbao pointed his little finger to the green belt not far away. “Mommy’s over there…”
Turning his neck was easy, but Zhong Teng felt it took all his strength.
Following Qingbao’s finger, Zhong Teng saw a rescuer in a white coat crouching on the ground to cover a dead person who only left half of its torso.
Zhong Teng felt a clanging sound in his heart as if he crashed down the cliff.
How did this happen?
“Don’t look, Qingbao.” Zhong Teng pushed Qingbao’s head into the car and stumbled toward the green belt.
We haven’t gone through the winter together; We haven’t lived our life together, holding your hands.
“Mo Xiaomo! Come back!” Zhong Teng stumbled down on his knees, clutching the white cloth as he was ready to threw it back. Tears were rolling down the back of his hands, burning and stinging.
A warm hand grabbed Zhong Teng’s wrist to stop him.
“Here I am.” It was the sound that Zhong Teng was missing day and night.
Zhong Teng gave a sudden jerk and turned his head in disbelief.
Mo Xiaomo was smiling at herself in her dirty white coat.
“Am I dreaming?” Zhong Teng hugged Mo Xiaomo and sniffed hard at her scent, making sure the soft body in his arms was real. He held the hands around Mo Xiaomo’s back tighter.
“Let me go. I have to save people.” Mo Xiaomo soothingly touched Zhong Teng on the back of the head and pushed him away.
“Zhong Teng, you take Qingbao… Hmm…” The words stuck in her throat. Their lips interlaced, full of emotion and trembling. Mo Xiaomo was about to be turned into a puddle of soft mud by Zhong Teng’s passionate kiss.
“Don’t…” At last she had a chance to catch her breath. Mo Xiaomo turned her neck and leaned back to keep him away.
Her unkempt and dirty look was embarrassing enough. Even at this time he made such unseemly gesture in full view of the public!
“You’re all right, that’s good.”
Zhong Teng steadied himself. His arms were still around Mo Xiaomo’s waist.
Just several words, showed all his excitement and the delight that Mo Xiaomo and Qingbao were still alive.
“You take Qingbao first. I’ll go with the majority.” Mo Xiaomo recovered her poise and spoke to Zhong Teng.
“You are not an angel in white today, you are a victim!” Zhong Teng won’t accept Mo Xiaomo’s arrangement. He was going to leave with her and Qingbao.
