Mo Xiaomo felt her heart skip a beat. She steadied herself and looked at Zhong Teng in disbelief. “I’ve been raising Qingbao all these years. The court can’t grant the custody to you!”
“This is City A, the city where Zhong’s enterprise takes root!” The confidence in Zhong Teng’s words was harsh to Mo Xiaomo.
“City A. Can you do whatever you want to here?” Mo Xiaomo asked angrily.
“You can’t beat me. You’d better give up and give in.” Zhong Teng couldn’t bear to see her upset, thinking whether his words were a little bit too harsh.
“Give up?” Mo Xiaomo sneered. “Zhong Teng, I still have your brother’s life in my hands.”
“What do you want?” Zhong Teng raised his eyebrows.
“If you don’t give up, I will stop my treatment.” Mo Xiaomo chose desperate fighting.
“No, your treatment has been initiated, and if it is terminated unilaterally, you will be held legally responsible.” Zhong Teng shook his head. Mo Xiaomo and the child, he was sure to win.
“Zhong Teng, are you going to make me die with you?” Mo Xiaomo’s eyes were red and she growled at Zhong Teng.
“I just wanted to give you and Qingbao a home.” Zhong Teng froze, his low voice spilling out of his throat.
Mo Xiaomo’s eyes had turned red. In front of this man, she looked like a helpless hedgehog, trying to protect herself and her child by sticking to her prickles. But this man was a hunter with a net and a cage.
“Mommy!” Qingbao ran over and threw himself lovingly into Mo Xiaomo’s arms.
The little child could not feel the sad, strange air.
“Let’s take Qingbao back to our home and Miss Mo can come with us after work.” Whispered Zhong Nanping, who followed Qingbao, with kindness on his face.
“No!” Mo Xiaomo objected without thinking.
“I’m not asking for your opinion.” Zhong Nanping looked at Mo Xiaomo blankly. “Give up the baby or be the daughter-in-law of the Zhongs. You have only two choices.”
As far as Mo Xiaomo was concerned, neither option was what she wanted.
“You’re robbing me!” Mo Xiaomo bent down and hugged Qingbao, her eyes full of tears.
Qingbao felt Mo Xiaomo’s trembling in her arms and looked up at her at a loss. “Mommy…”
“Qingbao, do you want to go?” Mo Xiaomo steadied herself and looked down.
Qingbao nodded without thinking, “Qingbao wants to go to his grandparents’ house to play. Grandpa said that’s Qingbao’s home too…”
Qingbao’s eyes were clear and innocent, only full of longing and expectation, without any redundant impurities.
Mo Xiaomo looked at Qingbao and shook her head. Her hands dropped.
“Mommy, why don’t you come with Daddy tonight?” Qingbao asked carefully, his small hands holding tightly to Mo Xiaomo’s skirt.
Mo Xiaomo was so sad. How could she deprive a child of expectation?
“You can go, Mommy loves you.” Mo Xiaomo nodded, tears already streaming out of her eyes. She pretended to rub her eyes and wiped them away.
Qingbao took Zhong Nanping with one hand and Fang Keyu with the other and left happily. Mo Xiaomo looked at them when they were going away and turned back to the hospital, ignoring Zhong Teng who was standing there in silence.
Mo Xiaomo went straight to Zhong Ze’s room. The nurse at the door saw her and gave a quick cough before letting her in.
Mo Xiaomo walked in calmly. Zhong Ze, looking pale, was still lying on the hospital bed, motionless as if he were in a trance.
“I used to think you were still a child. But I did not expect that you were a cunning fox.”
