Emerson’s study was on the first floor. The seat was near the window, and the window faced the garden. As long as he looked up, he could see Candice and Edward sitting together on the garden chairs.

“Edward.” Emerson said.
Candice and Edward turned their heads together. Their eyes were filled with wonder and horror. They didn’t know why Emerson suddenly appeared behind them.
Emerson frowned deeper, “What’s the matter?”
“No, nothing, it’s just that you suddenly appeared and scared us.” Candice immediately restored calm. Edward was young after all, so he kept his head down and said nothing. He had a guilty conscience.
Emerson suppressed his suspicion and picked Edward up and made him sit on his lap. He sat beside Candice. Emerson held a book in his hand and wanted to tell Edward the rest of the story.
