For several days in a row, Jacob couldn’t eat and couldn’t sleep. As soon as he closed his eyes, he would see Katherine, who looked pale and had blood all over her body. Even when he fell asleep, he would dream of Katherine looking at him with cold and hateful eyes.
After waking up from his dream, Jacob’s body was sweaty, and his heartbeat accelerated.
The curtains fluttered in the wind. He looked at the dark night outside and felt as if his heart was missing a piece – a little empty and a little painful.
This morning was the boarding time for the tickets Theo bought.
Jacob arrived early at the airport. This way, as soon as Theo appeared, Jacob would be able to immediately stop him.
Jacob was a little excited and a little nervous.
But the moment he saw Theo by himself, his heart sank suddenly. Jacob strode to Theo and asked, “Where is Katherine?”
Theo wasn’t surprised that he was suddenly intercepted. He sneered when he saw Jacob. “Isn’t she yours? Why are you asking me?”
Jacob was so furious it looked as if a fire was going to come out of his eyes. “I’ll ask you again, where is she?”
“How could you ask me where she is?” Theo’s expression became cold as he looked at Jacob sarcastically. “She is dead! You killed her! You still think she is alive? You want to find her and bring her back? Bring her back and have her get an abortion then remove her heart for that woman of yours?”
She was dead.
These three words made Jacob’s heart hurt fiercely. Memories of Katherine begging him surfaced in his mind.
He didn’t know why he was obsessed with finding out whether Katherine was dead or not. Even if that woman was dead, shouldn’t he feel nothing at all?
“You have only yourself to blame. Even if you feel guilty now, it won’t make a difference!” Theo ridiculed.
“No! It’s impossible!” Jacob was determined.
“I know she’s not dead!” Jacob looked at Theo with a gleam of hope in his eyes. “If she is dead, why would you buy two tickets? You just want to take her away!”
Theo sneered. “Jacob, what you just said sounds like a joke. Why do I have to be with Katherine in order to buy two tickets? I’m taking my mother abroad today and I will be living abroad from now on.”
“Your mother passed away!” Jacob said angrily, not believing in what Theo said.
“My mother is still here even if she passed away. Why can’t I buy a ticket for her?”
Jacob noticed that he was still holding a wooden box in his hand, and suddenly had nothing to say. He felt very depressed.
Theo didn’t want to waste any more time talking to Jacob and walked straight to the boarding gate.
Jacob turned and stared at him, watching Theo left by himself, and suddenly couldn’t breathe.
His eyes looked a little lost. At this moment, he was like a child who had lost his way home and didn’t know where to go, helpless and panicked.
“Is Katherine really dead? She died…” Jacob thought.
Jacob staggered for a moment as memories surfaced in his mind.
He was the one who killed her.
Before Theo left, he looked back at Jacob.
Jacob, who was slender and eye-catching, now looked lonely and helpless as if he was abandoned by the entire world.
But he had only himself to blame.
As he thought of how cruelly Jacob treated Katherine, Theo’s eyes turned cold. He retracted his gaze and walked away.
Even if Jacob had to live in self-blame and pain for the rest of his life, he did not deserve any sympathy. This was what he owed Katherine.
Jacob stood at the airport for a long time, watching the crowd come and go, but he never saw what he expected – Katherine’s face.
After a while, he left in a numb manner.
When he returned home, Jacob once again remembered the scars on Katherine’s body, and his eyes turned cold.
He called over his subordinate and asked, “How’s your progress with the investigation?”
The subordinate stood in front of him respectfully and hesitated after hearing his words. “I already have the results.”
“Who did it?” Jacob already had the answer in his heart, but he wanted the truth!
“It was Miss Lucia.” The subordinate thought of Jacob’s love for Lucia and was a little worried that he would not believe it. “This is what the other servants in the villa said. They said that Miss Lucia always asks her to do things, and if she didn’t do it well enough, Miss Lucia would pinch her or stab her with a needle. The injuries didn’t look very obvious.”
Jacob frowned out of anger.
He never thought that Lucia, who always played the role of a gentle and weak girl in front of him, treated Katherine this way behind his back.
What else did she hide from him?
As he thought of how Katherine explained to him in the past, Jacob’s heart stung.
He was the one who pushed Katherine to Hell.
He even turned her into Lucia’s maid.
Looking at Jacob’s sullen face, the subordinate cautiously said, “I also found out other things.”
“Go on.”
“According to a nurse who was involved in the kidney transplant, Miss Lucia did not undergo the kidney transplant, but watched as Mrs. Murray’s kidney was removed. She ordered the doctor to kill Mrs. Murray immediately and because of the orders you gave beforehand, the doctor did not dare to do so.”
