Rachel was in such great shock, and her heartbeat was fast as hell.
A sudden change in her face, she felt hard to breathe. Her legs softened and staggered back two steps.
How could it be?
So absurd.
Rachel shook her head. She couldn’t believe it at all. It must be a misunderstanding.
Sienna gnashed her teeth. She took a deep breath and said indifferently, “Rachel White, I’ve been honest to you, but I can’t believe you did this to me. Here’s the end of our friendship, I hope you have a happy life…”
Sienna turned away as soon as she finished her last word.
Seconds later, Rachel came to herself. She rushed to get Sienna and hold her hand, begging for her forgiveness, “Sienna, I’m sorry. I didn’t steal Ewan or got married with him. I really don’t know why this happened, I…”
Sienna get rid of her hand and rebuked furiously, “Stop acting. Did Ewan force you to sign the paper? Now your name is already there, and you tell me you don’t know anything?”
Rachel winced, she suddenly thought of the two blank agreements Ewan asked her to sign. Now the words he said before leaving finally made sense.
It was ridiculous that he pushed her into such an unethical position. What the hell?
How the world was going to look at her? How her families and friends would treat her?
He hated her so much, why would he marry her? Was he trying to destroy her life?
Rachel took out her phone from her bag in a panic and tried to call Ewan with her shaking hands and confused mind.
Sienna gradually walked close. She lowered her head and suggested, “Are you calling Ewan?”
Ewan’s phone was already ringing. Rachel apologized, “Sorry, Sienna, give me some time. I’ll get it right.”
“How? By divorcing him?”
Rachel nodded. Her mind went from confused to fretted, tears were rotating in her eyes. She talked with her shaking lips, “Of course, I’ll cancel the agreement. He… he’s your man, and I’ve never tried to steal him. There must be some misunderstanding. We can never be together.”
Sienna slowly grabbed Rachel’s other hand, crying and begging, “Rachel, please, we have been together for more than ten years, and we are happy. I know he must act impulse to make this choice. I believe you, Rachel.”
No one answered the phone, but Rachel kept calling. She took a deep breath and whispered, “Sienna, thank you for trusting me. If the Hills know abut this, there will be serious consequences. My parents will go mad, so will my grandpa. My brother and sister-in-law won’t let me get away neither. Other relatives will look down on me. I don’t wanna be the sinner of stealing my best friend’s husband.”
“Thank you, Rachel.” Sienna hugged her and murmured in tears, “Thank you. As long as you give him back, we’ll still be friends. I won’t blame you, I…”
Rachel pushed her away, because she was not in the mood for her emotional monologue. She ran passed her and towards the main road.
Sienna was nervous, “Rachel, where are you going?”
“He didn’t answer the phone. I’ll go to the military center to find him.”
She stopped a cab and left in a hurry.
Sienna chased her for a few steps, exhorting with worries, “Rachel, be careful. Don’t get too mad. Don’t argue with your brother when you see him…”
Sienna gradually lowered her voice, standing in the middle of the road, watching the cab disappear. Then, she took out a mirror from her limited-edition handbag, gracefully opened it and started to fix her messed makeup.
Shortly after, three women walked to her from the corner.
Sienna complimented while doing the makeup, “Good performance. Money will be in your accounts soon. I’ll let you know if I need you do the acting again.”
“Thank you, Miss Parker.” The three of them said in one voice.
“Your slapping the mistress gossip will be on the headline tomorrow, remember to repost the video. When someone ask about this, don’t panic. Keep your mouths shut.”
“Yes, Miss Parker.”
Capital, C Country.
This was the most prosperous city, the wildest fantasy of so many people.
Bustling streets were shined by all the different neon lights. The evening was still chilly in early spring.
Rachel sat in the cab for eight hours. Driving through two cities, from 6 p. m. to 3 a. m., finally she arrived at Capital.
She had nothing on her except for some simple belongings.
Special forces headquarter.
This place was the most sacred fortress in Capital, and its top priority was to keep the country’s capital and political head safe.
The lights outside the military center made it look so bright as in the middle of the day.
The gate was closed. Armed soldiers garrisoned under the help of machine guns and fortress. Their cooperation was so perfect that not even a fly could get in there.
The two guards, though they were real humans, looked like two sculptures, for they didn’t blink once.
Rachel suspected that those were indeed two sculptures.
However, they were equipped with machine guns, which made her scared to come any closer.
Nights were cold at the end of winter. Although Rachel kept dialing Ewan’s phone number, he never answered.
As time went by, she was tired enough to sleep right away. After a log distance of travel and the absence of dinner, she was starving, exhausted and cold.
Not to mention she didn’t know anyone here to turn for help.
Her strength was leaving her while standing, so she pushed herself against the wall, and slowly sat down.
The morning is only a few hours away, she could wait a little bit longer…
“Hey, beauty…”
Rachel heard someone calling her in her sleep. She opened her eyes, only to find herself sitting against the wall. She was sound asleep.
The sky was hazy, and the fog was still dense.
Now Rachel could see the man clearly. White T shirt, army pants, he was sweated by morning exercise. And the masculine smile hanging on his face, warm as the sunshine.
Rachel recognized him. She had met this adjutant last time she was here for Ewan.
“You know me, right?” his smile never faded away.
Standing up, Rachel dusted herself and nodded with a beam, “Definitely, Krish.”
“Why are you here?”
“I’m here for my brother…” Rachel took out her phone to check the time. It said 5:30 a. m. She asked anxiously, “Can I come in?”
“Of course.”
Krish suggested by gesture that she could come, “You are the sister of General Hill, an honored guest. This way, please.”
She entered the military center at the lead of Krish.
On the grand drill ground, male hormones was floating. Muscles, sweats, all that showed the sexiness of masculine men and gave girls wet dreams.
Krish took Rachel to a very delicate and elegant room, brought her tea and snacks. He spoke with a smile, “General Hill lives here. He gets up at exactly seven. If you don’t wanna wait, you can go straight to his room.”
Rachel stood up nervously. She tried to explain they were not biological siblings, maybe it was better she waited outside the room.
But Krish had already left.
