As soon as Leah raised her hand, Rachel quickly grabbed Leah’s wrist and slapped her hard in the face.
“Clap”
“Ouch!” Other people were shocked. They could feel Leah was in great pain.
Leah’s strength was not as strong as Rachel’s. She felt the pain in her face, which made her eyes red. She was so angry that she wanted to tear Rachel apart.
Rachel squinted her eyes and yelled, “I tell you, first, my mother is not a mistress. She didn’t know my stepfather until many years after his divorce. Second, my mother is not a murderer. She was framed. Third, Ewan didn’t treat me like this before. He just…”
Rachel wanted to say something, but she didn’t say it. When she calmed down, she felt miserable. There was no need for her to explain these things to irrelevant people.
Leah knew that she was weak and couldn’t beat Rachel who was healthy and energetic. So she shook her hand and stepped back. Reluctantly, she went to the sofa and sat down. She cursed Rachel in a whisper, and stared virulently at her.
Rachel was stunned. She felt exhausted and at a loss.
Once upon a time, Ewan loved her.
She did not know when their relationship began to deteriorate rapidly.
In order not to disturb other people, Rachel stopped knocking at the door and yelling. She stood by the window, looking at the sea.
The night deepened.
Other people had fallen asleep.
Rachel stood alone in the dim night, looking up at the stars, and looking down at the dark sea. With the sound of the wind and the waves, she felt lonelier.
When she was three years old, her mother married into the Hill family with her.
In her memory, she liked her stepfather’s third son Ewan very much. He was solitary and hard to approach.
The more he hated her, the more she wanted to get close to him.
Ewan suffered from autism because of his parents’ divorce. He kept everyone away from him, but only she had ever entered his world. At that time, she was not afraid of anything. She wanted to be with him every day, just like sticky candy.
Every time they met, she wanted to hug him.
At that time, she ate the food he had eaten, used the things he had used, worn the clothes he had worn, and did what he had done. She took a fancy to Ewan a long time ago.
Every night, she would sneak into his room, get into his bed and sleep with him. She was often found by Ewan who woke up. But she was quite stubborn and determined.
He did not avoid her approach. Although he was still apathetic, for him, at least, she was different from the others.
As a child, she wanted to change her surname to Hill so that she could be more intimate with Ewan.
She also wanted to marry Ewan when she grew up, but after being reprimanded by her mother, she did not dare to mention it again.
It was a wonderful childhood memory. She thought Ewan liked her. And, it didn’t matter even if he didn’t love her.
But she didn’t know what she had done to make that man hated her so much now.
He served as a soldier for ten years, and she returned to the White family to live with her father. They met each other very few times.
He was no longer what he used to be, and so did she. She wasn’t so cheeky as before.
After dawn, the yacht came ashore.
The police had been informed and police cars lined up on the shore waiting for them. As soon as they got off the yacht, a dozen people were handcuffed and pushed into the police car.
Rachel was taken by the police alone.
She went to the hospital to have a general examination, and then was taken back to the police station to make a statement. Unlike what she imagined, she was not detained. The police just let her make a statement and let her go home.
The White family lived in a commercial house located in an upscale district.
Rachel’s family was not poor now. Her father and stepmother ran a food factory, so their life was not bad.
As soon as Rachel entered the house, she was slapped in the face before she could greet them.
“Pa.”
The loud sound broke the peace of the morning.
Her face was so painful that Rachel was stunned, covering her cheek in amazement.
It was Leah’s mother, Erin Bates, who was Rachel’s stepmother.
Erin had a bloated figure and wore tacky jewelry. She asked Rachel angrily, “Where did you take my daughter? Why did the police inform us that she was in custody?”
Exhausted, Rachel bit her lip.
One of the things she had done most in her life was to tolerate, but this time she didn’t want to tolerate any more. She coldly replied, “You should ask the police.”
“You took Leah out and let her get caught by the police. Why did you come back safe and sound? You’re so shameless. What did you do to Leah?”
Rachel sneered bitterly and questioned Erin, “Why don’t you ask the police? Do you already know what crime she committed?”
Erin didn’t answer and just stared at Rachel virulently.
The middle-aged man sitting in the living room was silent. He was Rachel’s cowardly father.
While, the old woman with white hair said sarcastically, “Don’t let Leah treat someone as relative. There are a lot of hypocritical people in the society now.”
Hypocritical?
Rachel just sneered in her heart. She felt a little bitter.
It was her grandmother who said these words. Rachel heard from her mother that she divorced her father because she couldn’t continue to endure Rachel’s grandmother’s torment.
Rachel said coldly, “Please tell Leah that she doesn’t have to call me sister or get close to me in the future. And I don’t want to have anything to do with her.”
Erin’s expression became distorted with anger, and she clenched her fist to stop the impulse to slap Rachel.
As soon as Rachel was about to leave, her grandmother slapped her hand on the tea table, making a loud noise, and Rachel stopped.
“You’re shameless. How can you be so impolite to your elders? What on earth do you want to do? Leah was such a good girl. She couldn’t be a prostitute or a drug addict. You must have set her up.”
Rachel was really exhausted. She felt she was choking. She didn’t want to explain, because no one would believe her.
At this time, her father, Jordan, finally spoke. But he just said to his mother, “Mom, maybe Leah did something wrong. She was so crazy and wanted to be a star…”
Erin immediately yelled at him, “Don’t talk nonsense. My daughter couldn’t do anything wrong.”
Jordan cringed again, afraid to speak more.
Jordan’s mother was not happy to see Erin yelling at her son, but she first reminded Erin to pay attention to her attitude, “Hey…”
Erin reined in her arrogance, glared at Rachel and said slowly, “I’m upset to see her now. She’s 25 years old, but she is not married and is not going back to live with her mother. She’s been bringing us bad luck. And now Leah is in custody.”
With that, Erin began to cry hypocritically, “How did Leah offend you? You set her up for jail. She is too miserable.”
Jordan immediately walked over, hugged Erin and comforted her, “Don’t cry, I’ll find a way to get Leah out.”
Jordan’s mother also comforted her, “Erin, don’t worry, Leah will be OK, and those vicious people will have their own retribution.”
Rachel sneered bitterly. Even a stupid person could understand the connotation of Jordan’s mother’s words.
She went upstairs quietly, went back to her room and immediately packed up to leave the family.
They wouldn’t let Rachel stay here, and they wouldn’t miss Rachel. Wherever she was, she was always the person who was most severely ostracized.
