“Jenny, I’m fine. It just makes me worried about you since you’re nowhere to be seen after the operation. I’m feeling much better now. Your friend has sent me to this well-equipped sanatorium. Everything is fine here.”
Jenny breathes a sigh of relief when she heard that her mother is doing well after her operation. These days, she keeps praying for her mother and finally, her prayer is answered.
Jenny is like a child who just found her mother, locks her arms round her mother’s neck, and weeps upon her bosom.
She does not expect that Harold has visited her mother on her behalf since the day she told him she’s so worried about her mother. He even brought her mother to such a good environment for recuperation. Now she feels guilty about treating him coldly these last few days.
Jenny and her mother have been talking a lot until Harold comes in.
“Patricia, how do you feel when staying here? Do you feel better now? Is there anything else I can help you with?”
“I’m good, everything is fine here. Thank you very much, Harold. I’m glad that Jenny has friends like both of you.”
Both of you?
The other should be James Yard. Something has changed in Harold’s eyes, but he keeps a smile on his face.
“Have a good rest, Patricia. I’m sorry that I have something to talk about with Jenny. We’ll come back later.”
“Alright, go ahead.”
Jenny actually does not want to go with him, she wants to stay with her mother instead. But if she retorts upon him, she’s afraid that her mother will discover some truths that her mother might find them troubling. After going through an internal conflict, she follows him out of the ward obediently.
“Where are you taking me? Can I stay here?”
“Jenny, let’s get one thing perfectly clear.” Harold looks at her seriously.
“What?”
“You must bear in mind that whatever happens, I will never allow you to run away from me.”
His words are like creating an imprisonment for Jenny, she can’t repress a shiver.
Fear and unrest are entangled in her heart at once. Don’t tell her his intended purpose for bringing her mother here is to keep her continually by his side.
This man’s so terrible!
“So… Where do you want to take me?”
Jenny gives up guessing what he’s thinking, and then diverts the conversation to another topic.
“We’re going to my office. But you should follow me all the time, you’re not allowed to go around by yourself. Understand?”
“Yes, I got it.”
“Jenny, as long as you promise not to leave, I will consider giving you some freedom.”
“Does it make any differences if I promise you?”
Jenny permits herself a small mirthless smile.
Whether she wants to keep her promise or not, he has already taken everything from her.
Hasn’t he already taken everything from her?
“Sure, it’s different. I hope you stay with me out of your own free will.”
“I…” Jenny’s in a quandary about what to do, she totally cannot understand how his mind’s working.
“I know, you don’t put me in your heart yet. Anyway, I want to make you fall in love with me, love me from the bottom of your heart.”
Harold lifts his finger toward her heart. His eyes take on an intense expression, she can see a determined gleam reflected in his eyes.
Jenny does not say another word, she just immerse herself in his deep kiss tamely.
She shouts inwardly, “Jenny, you can’t lose yourself in him. Calm yourself! Despite you love this man so much, you shouldn’t love him anymore!”
They arrive at Harold’s company, which is a cloud-capped skyscraper.
Jenny looks upward to count how many floors are there in the skyscraper. After a while she feels painful in her neck, but she still can’t figure it out.
Harold wants to carry Jenny in his arms, but she grabs him by his arms immediately.
“Please don’t do this in your company. I can walk by myself, okay?”
Harold has no objection, he just takes her hands, and they walks into the building together.
There are four bodyguards following behind them.
Coming through the revolving door, the rococo styled entrance hall resembles a luxurious banquet hall for European aristocrats in last century; the staff dress in a nearly pressed and name-brand uniform; the floor is as clean as a mirror, even the gorgeous crystal chandelier that hung in the entrance hall is reflected on it.
The staff lines up in an orderly fashion. All of them wear a professional smile on their face, appears to be in a jovial mood.
The receptionists greet Harold respectfully, with a smile of heavenly sweetness on their lips. “Good day to you, Boss.”
Their greetings are so loud that Jenny is taken aback.
After that, Jenny sees the rows of staff in business suits give their regards to Harold orderly. She feels that she is too much of an unsophisticated hick to witness a scene like that without her mouth gaping open.
She feels like a person who don’t know how to walk. Her feet seem to be rooted, making her move hardly at all.
Harold Quarrington who is a superior, phlegmatic and sexually continent CEO, is at the entrance hall which is magnificent, luxurious and as extravagant as the world of fairy tales.
In front of hundreds of staff, who has been practically petrified by the shock, Harold seizes her around her delicate waist naturally and says in a doting voice, “Why do you stop walking? You just walked for several steps. If I’d known earlier, I won’t give you your shoes lest you find a way to cheat.”
Jenny seems to hear people’s jaws dropping in surprise and the young girls’ hearts being broken.
She thinks, “This is really a sin!” Harold lifts her to the elevator by crossing his arms under her buttocks as if nobody’s watching. Her head can’t be any lower, but she still feels embarrassed when others look at her inquisitively.
Finally, they arrive at Harold’s office. Jenny’s rosy complexion has returned to normal gradually.
Along the way, she is being watched with the sharp glance of dissatisfaction. If their eyes were so sharp as a knife to kill people, maybe she would have been died thousands of times.
“Jenny, just stay in the lounge, don’t run around. I will show you around after my work is done.”
Harold looks at Jenny who hasn’t recover herself from a daze, kissing her forehead, then goes out.
At that instant, Jenny is deep in thought.
“Harold, how come I appeal to you?”
“Why you don’t try to like others?”
Jenny can’t help sighing, sitting by the window, stares blankly at the seventy-seven-storey skyscraper. It’s always lonely at the top, and the feeling of loneliness has occupied her conscious mind.
The personal assistant of Harold is a Chinese who has been awarded the title of The Highest Standard British Royal Butler.
He hasn’t introduced himself yet, Jenny don’t know his name. Therefore, when he appears behind her, she don’t know what to call him.
It is really an embarrassing situation, but he has helped Jenny out of this awkward situation courteously. His smile is gentle, reminds her of the smile of James.
She is stung at the thought.
“Ms. Jenny, I’m the personal assistant of Mr. Quarrington, you can call me Leonard. Do you need anything now? Mr. Quarrington has sent me to take care of you lest you feel out of sorts.”
“I’m good, I feel like sitting here.”
Jenny feels so blessed that she gets a chance to go out. She even has visited her mother. She is satisfied with everything she has now.
“Do you want to watch a movie or have a spa day to relax yourself?”
Watch a movie?
Have a spa day?
“It’s okay, Harold won’t let me go out. What if I’m gone when you take me out? He will blame you for this.”
“Ms. Jenny, don’t worry. We can do it here.”
Jenny’s mouth gazes open, shock to the point that she can’t even close her mouth.
Is that true that this office building offers these kinds of recreational facilities?
Well, Harold never mistreat himself.
