Nancy followed the supervisor of the Finance department to her cubical. She sat uneasily until noon. She went to the HR department and dragged Mandy to the stairwell.
Mandy appeared irritated and broke free from Nancy. “What are you doing? You ghosted me for a week and now you are dragging me? What’s up?” She said coldly.
Nancy knew Mandy wasn’t really upset with her. Held both of her hands and begged for forgiveness, “I’m sorry, my dearest. I didn’t realize that my cell phone wasn’t turned on for the week. How would I dare not contacting you? How come you are at Sky Creations? I was shocked when I saw you this morning!”
Mandy smiled arrogantly, hands crossed over her breast, “Think with that thick head of yours why I’m here. I once said, where Hale Brown is, Mandy will be!”
Nancy’s face started to twitch uncontrollably. This must be the highest form of courtship! It’s scary once a woman loses self-control. It’s even more frightening if a rich woman loses her mind!
This love stuck Mandy only saw a live stream of Hale and was hopelessly smitten. She was head over heels for him for an entire year! It was because of her that Nancy started gaming and even became one of the top ten players. Although Mandy doesn’t have the skills to play, she has the ability to influence others to play the game.
“You are certainly dedicated to this courtship! I’m impressed, no, I bow before you in respect!” Nancy was just short of kneeling.
“Oh please! I saw Zack just now. Why didn’t you do something?” Mandy steered the conversation back towards Nancy.
As soon as Nancy heard Zack’s name, she became deflated. “You won’t believe me If I were to tell you what happened to me this week. Sigh!” Mandy suddenly lit up in excitement. She hopped in front of Nancy and demanded, “What what what? Tell me, entertain me with your misfortunes.”
Nancy rolled her eyes, “Hey, how can you take pleasure at my misfortune? Do you think that I’m jinxed this year? All sorts of strange things befell upon me. I think I should pray in the chapel.”
“I didn’t expect you kids to be so religious.” Said with a villain’s smirk, Hale, the main culprit appeared out of the shadows.
Nancy was once again startled. Mama Mia! What’s wrong with these people appearing out of nowhere?
Cheeky Mandy wasn’t scared but was delighted, “Hale! What are you doing here?”
With a raised eyebrow, Hale said, “You girls can be here gossiping. Why can’t I take a smoke break here?”
The love-struck Mandy said, “But of course, I didn’t know that you smoke, that’s so manly.”
This was the first time Mandy witness such an ass-kissing exchange. She’s still young and not accustomed to this kind of conversation. So, she retreated and leaned against the wall.
Holding her breath, she ran back to her office. It was lunchtime and some packed lunch from home and some ordered in. Nancy took in the smell of lunch and her stomach started to growl uncontrollably.
At this rush hour, taking the lift down for lunch is out of the question. She could only wait untill the evening to eat her next meal. Her tummy just has to endure the day.
Just as she wanted to take a nap at her table, the office door opened and Zack entered.
He stood in front of Nancy and his finger motioned for Nancy to follow him. Nancy looked around her and back at Zack, pointed to herself. Zack nodded. “Nancy Xavier, come with me.”
