It was the Mid-Autumn Festival, a festival for a family reunion.
James planned to give Mason a day off and let him go home.
However, Mason was alone and had no so-called home, so he naturally had nowhere to go.
Kara felt uncomfortable when she heard that. She held James’ hand to attract his attention.
James knew that Kara had something to say, so he tilted his head slightly to listen to her.
“James, Mason is so lonely. Could you tell him to stay with us?”
“What do you mean by that?”
“In the Mid-Autumn Festival, ask Libby to make a table of delicious food. Let’s have lunch together first and then go to the Hemming’s house. Is that okay?”
Kara thought they wouldn’t be in the mood to eat when they were at the Hemming’s house. Thus, Kara wanted to eat something in the villa so that she wouldn’t be hungry.
“OK.”
That was also how James thought. He would not have the appetite for the reunion dinner in the Hemming’s house.
Moreover, James would not starve his honey, Kara.
“Mason, Mrs. Hemming said that you took care of her a lot. Please stay during the Mid-Autumn Festival.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Hemming.” Mason was a little touched.
Mason had always been alone during the past few years. When he saw other families reunite, he felt a little sad.
Mason thought that he was already used to it, but he didn’t expect that Kara’s words made him feel warm and moved.
What a sweet girl Kara was!
After lunch, Kara finally noticed the small basket next to her and looked through it in confusion.
It was some flowers. Who was James going to pay his respects to?
James still had to go to work in the afternoon. Kara did not ask much. At the thought of the plan to raise her boyfriend, Kara must work on drawing hard.
Just as she finished drawing a picture, Kara heard a commotion downstairs.
Libby has returned to her own home. She would come in the evening. Who was downstairs?
Kara went downstairs and lifted the curtains. She saw that Linda was arguing with the security guard. Kara was so scared that she quickly closed the curtains.
Why did Linda come here? What did she want to do?
Kara bit her lips and frowned as she went to look for her cell phone. She wanted to call James.
But when she picked up her phone, Kara thought that James was working and she could not disturb him.
Moreover, Kara could not rely on him all the time. She had to face it on her own. In this way, she could grow up.
Kara had just made up her mind when she heard the doorbell ring. Kara was nervous and her palms were sweating.
Taking a few deep breaths, Kara opened the door and saw the security guard with an apologetic look.
“What’s the matter?”
The security guard explained helplessly, “Well, an old lady said that she was the grandmother of Mr. James’ fiancée and wanted to see her.
“I thought she was a liar, so I stopped her. I didn’t expect that old lady to be so unreasonable.
“After arguing for a long time, we all got puzzled by her, so we had no choice but to ask you.
“May I ask if you are Mr. James’ fiancée?”
“Yes.”
Kara thought, ‘Linda is stubborn. If she didn’t meet me today, she might make a scene tomorrow.’
“Just tell her to see me.”
The security guard stared at Kara in surprise. He had prepared to explain more because he was afraid that Mr. James’ fiancée would be angry and complain about him. In that way, he would lose his job.
The security guard didn’t expect Kara to have such a good temper. Kara’s voice was very sweet and sounded comfortable.
“OK. I’ll bring her over right now.”
The security guard was worried that Linda would cause trouble, and he followed her.
Linda pushed Adam in a wheelchair to the outside of the villa. Kara wore a T-shirt, broken jeans, and her clothes were stained with paint. Her face was also dirty.
Linda couldn’t help but mock Kara in her heart. Linda thought that Kara would live a rich life after marrying James. Linda didn’t expect that Kara would also have to work as a servant.
Perhaps seeing Kara’s misery, Linda felt a lot better.
“Kara, anyway I am still your biological grandmother. You want me to stand here and talk to you without giving me a glass of water?”
Kara put on a smile and looked up at the security guard who was sweating behind Linda.
In the early autumn, the sun in the afternoon was still scorching.
The security guard wore a black uniform and stood guard under the sun. He got tanned.
Kara blinked her big eyes and opened the door, inviting them in.
“Sir, why don’t you come in and have a drink too? It is hot.”
The security guard was surprised. He shook his head after he recovered from the shock.
“Mrs. Hemming, I still have to patrol.”
“It’s just a few minutes. Besides, your colleague will inform you in case of emergency.”
Although James’ villa was relatively secluded, it was very safe in this area.
It was a requirement. Regardless of whether it was winter or summer, the guards had to patrol every two hours.
This security guard looked unfamiliar to Kara. It was very likely that he was a newcomer. That was why he was shy to ask Kara about it when Linda made a fuss.
But Linda left a terrible impression on Kara. Now Kara was alone in the villa, and she was afraid that Linda would hit her.
With a security guard by the side, if Linda made a move, Kara could call for help.
The security guard thought that he brought Linda in and should bring her out. Given that James seemed to make a request, he walked to the door shyly.
“Mrs. Hemming, thanks for your water. I will stand guard by the door for you. I brought them in and I should send them out. Is that OK?”
“Thank you, Sir.” Kara was grateful.
Kara turned to the fruit plate, took two apples, and stuffed them into the security guard’s hands.
“Just have some apples if you don’t drink water. The apple is very tasty.”
The security guard was surprised.
The security guard stared at the two apples in his hands. Just as he was about to refuse, Kara had turned and left.
The guard was very embarrassed. He did not expect that Mr. James’ fiancée was so easy-going and polite.
Linda saw that Kara was so polite and generous to that security guard but wasn’t nice to her. Linda became unhappy.
Kara went to pour some water for Linda and Adam. Kara did not speak and just looked at them.
Linda took a sip of tea and scanned the villa.
Linda saw the luxurious decoration and every piece of furniture was dear. She got jealous.
“You live in such a good place but just give us water. Kara, I am your biological grandmother.”
Linda was picky, and Kara sneered.
Linda was Kara’s biological grandmother. So what?
Kara was Linda’s biological granddaughter, but Linda still beat Kara up and made her to hospital. How sad it was!
“Mom, could you stop talking?” Adam sighed.
Linda and Adam were there to ask for help. But Linda was still picky. Amazing!
“Kara, your grandmother is old. She is a little muddled. Please forgive her.”
“What’s the matter?”
Kara didn’t want to hear Adam explain, so she went straight to the point.
Adam held the cup in his hand and was a little reserved.
“Kara, you know that your cousin is still in prison. It’s near Mid-Autumn Festival. I want to see her. Could you think of a way to help me see Kathleen?”
