The news that Kara might be pregnant jolted James out of the mood for work. He was often distracted during meetings.
“Mr. James, Mr. James, what do you think?”
Nolan called out a few times, but James was still in a trance. Nolan started worrying that he was not feeling well.
“Mr. James, are you feeling sick?”
“What?”
James finally snapped out of his daze and looked at Nolan blankly.
“Mr. James, what do you think of the plan?” Nolan reminded him in a low voice. James glanced around and realized that all the board members were staring at him.
“What do you think?” he asked Nolan.
James caught him off guard. Nolan adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, cleared his throat, and nodded.
“I think it’s okay, but it can be done more meticulously…” Nolan said.
Nolan went on to make a long speech, but James just nodded perfunctorily.
“Yes, what Nolan said makes sense. Listen to him. However, I hope that next time, there will be reports that interest the audience even more.”
James had always been picky when it came to work. Other seniors nodded immediately.
James was still thinking about Kara’s words on his way back to his office.
Libby suspected Kara was pregnant.
He was surprised at first, but when Will’s words came to his mind, James felt a surge of fear.
James and Kara would have a child, but not now!
‘No, I have to go back and take a look,’ he thought.
“Mr. James, you…”
Nolan came over with a pile of documents and bumped into James, who was rushing out. Nolan’s head hurt.
“Nolan, I may be going to be a father. I want to skip work.”
The corner of Nolan’s mouth twitched.
If James wanted to skip work, James could just leave. He shouldn’t have said it so blatantly.
Moreover, James used to be too cold to explain his action. What was wrong with him today?
Was James showing off?
Wait a minute.
Nolan took a few seconds to realize that all the documents in his hand fell. Then Nolan goggled at him in shock.
“Mr. James, were you saying that Miss Kara is pregnant?”
Given Kara’s current physical condition, pregnancy would cost her life.
“I mean, it is possible.”
James was a little excited. It was obvious that he was looking forward to it to some extent.
James strode out of the company. When he stopped at the traffic light, he turned his head and saw a mother holding a child across the road. His eyes fell on the child.
He wondered if his child would be so cute.
As his eyes were fixed on the child walking away, the green light turned red, and he did not notice it until the car behind him rang the horn.
For the first time, he had this strange thought.
Right after arriving at the villa, he rushed to the living room and saw Kara lying on the sofa and glued to her phone.
His burning gaze fell on her belly, thinking that their child would be very beautiful.
If it was a girl, she would definitely be as adorable as Kara. It was fine if it was a boy. James would teach him at a young age about how to protect Kara.
In an instant, countless thoughts sprang to his mind.
“Hey, James, why are you back?”
Kara looked up and saw him. Feeling guilty, she immediately sat up straight and hid her phone behind.
“Come back for lunch. Anything wrong with that?”
Seeing her fidgeting, James narrowed his eyes, walked to her, and sit down.
“What are you hiding?”
“No, nothing.”
Kara got up and wanted to run, but James reacted fast. He reached out his arms and scooped her into his arms, and snatched her phone away.
“James, don’t look. That is a secret between me and Jamya!”
Kara got anxious and threw herself into his arms to grab her phone.
James raised his eyebrows and wondered what their secret was.
James read their chat records, pouted, and then threw the phone to her in disgust.
“Coward!”
“What did you say?”
This was the first time Kara had heard him curse.
James used to take cursing as an inferior way to scold people. The most hateful thing was that he could always get on others’ nerves.
“He even lacked the balls to get on top of her on the wedding night. He even asked her to take the initiative. No wonder he couldn’t find a girlfriend in his thirties.” James sneered.
Kara frowned and pouted, not agreeing with him.
Kara had just chatted with Jamya. She told Kara that Ayden and she had sex last night.
Ayden asked a few questions out of curiosity, only to find out that Jamya was drunk and forced herself on Ayden.
This morning, Ayden thought about it over and over again. At last, he decided to take Jamya to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get the marriage certificate.
Jamya was a bit muddled. She couldn’t believe that she took off Ayden’s clothes last night.
She felt shocked, happy, yet embarrassed at the same time.
Jamya didn’t want to make their marriage public, so she told Kara not to tell James. However, Kara acted like an idiot.
She promised Jamya earnestly that she would not tell anyone. When Kara saw James just now, her instinctive reaction was to hide her phone from him.
However, her suspicious actions got James’ attention.
So, in the end, James found it out.
“James, not everyone sees things like you. Ayden has his considerations when doing things. You play tricks in bed, but he is unlike you.”
“Oh, what tricks did I play?”
James glanced at her, with a serious face and a flicker of shrewdness in his eyes.
“You can’t deny that. You took my bath towel away and let me wear that kind of clothes. And you got more than one set of those…”
She was too shy to continue.
Her face was already burning.
“Go on.”
James stared at her with interest and touched her cheeks with his long fingers.
“Why is your face so hot?”
“James, I … I don’t want to talk to you anymore. You always take advantage of me.” Kara grabbed her phone and got up, trying to keep a distance from him.
However, James wanted to be close to her, hugged her slender waist, and sat her down on his knees.
“Kara, why did Libby say that you are pregnant?” James put his hand on her belly and looked at Kara affectionately.
Kara was amused and embarrassed by the question.
“Libby said that I have been eating and sleeping a lot recently. Also, I got fat. She thinks these are signs of pregnancy.”
Kara had just had a body check two days ago. Although James was very clear that she could not be pregnant, he still had a strange idea.
“Besides, I got a checkup before I was discharged from the hospital. The doctor did not say that I was pregnant. Libby must be wrong about that.”
James stroked her belly, with mixed feelings.
Kara still couldn’t get pregnant.
‘If you get pregnant now … No.’ James thought.
If she was pregnant, she couldn’t keep the baby.
When Kara noticed that his expression suddenly became cold and he frowned, she was at a loss.
“James, I have to focus on my study now and can’t get pregnant. Moreover, I haven’t fully recovered yet. It’s not good for the baby.
“James, if you want a child, we can have a try in my senior year, okay? I will be almost fully recovered by then.”
“Yes.”
James took a deep breath to suppress the strange feeling and caressed her head.
Libby came out of the kitchen and was surprised to see James.
“Mr. James, I’m sorry about that. I’ve noticed that Mrs. Hemming has been…”
“It’s okay, Libby. Thank you for your concern.” James comforted Libby.
James couldn’t help worrying about Kara’s condition and reminded Libby.
“Kara is a foodie. Libby, I need you to watch her for me. I am busy with work and can’t take care of her sometimes.”
