Ember

But no matter what I always stop myself, my eyes betray me as if they have lived on their own.
The reason why I was glancing was that I was still confused and curious as to what happened that made him congratulate me that night at the restaurant. After that incident, I was rooted to my spot, unable to move.
It was a miracle he hadn’t glared at me that night, much more to congratulate me like we were friends. Has he changed? Has he eaten something or got sick that he suddenly got kind to me? Or maybe it was caused by his bipolar attitude again?
Questions are all buzzing around my mind, not vanishing until it is answered. A part of me was telling me to stop acting like it was a big deal while a part of me wanted to know what happened. And the latter was larger. But even so, the only way to know was to ask him.
But how? It isn’t easy to just sneak up and ask him directly, it will be useless. He won’t answer it as our deal says, if that was even valid…. With all these thoughts in mind, I was glad to successfully introduce myself and returned to my seat.
I sighed, so much for introducing and all that social interactions with people. I had enough, even for a particular robot…
“Hi.” I glanced beside me and saw a girl. She has a big smile on her face. She was wearing a red hoodie. Her long blonde hair reached her waist. Her bright blue eyes were contrasting her soft pale skin.
I looked to my left, no one. Then to my right, none either. Realizing I was the one she was referring to, I smiled shyly. “Hello,” I replied.
“My name’s Ember. But you can call me Em.” I could hear a British accent lacing in her cheery voice.
“I’m Snow. Leizel Snow Watertrings.” I introduced myself.
“So, Snow… welcome to Anastolgia High.” She exclaimed and her big smile widened. We talked for a bit until the teacher started to discuss our lesson.
In the middle of the lesson, I can’t help but turn around and glance at Eion’s direction, who was listening to the teacher. He met my gaze and stared back at me with his eyebrows raising, asking me silently.
I diverted my gaze and turned my attention to the teacher who was discussing something. I tried to hide my yawn from them, not wanting to get caught by Mrs. Johnson. I had been looking forward to going home, staring at the clock every now and then.
I saw a girl starting to chat with Eion. Eion just glared at her, and the girl backed down, rolling her eyes. Wow, the feeling she feels now is familiar to me. I could see myself in that girl when I first talked to him. Poor girl.
Mrs. Johnson had given us homework just before the moment I was waiting for it to arrive. I heaved a long sigh of relief, copying the writings on the whiteboard. Once the bell rang, I quickly packed up my things.
Slinging my bag into my back, I stood up and let my eyes steal a glance at Eion who was now walking towards the door. I followed him and saw Luke was leaning on a wall in the hallway. He greeted Eion and they bro-hug each other.
Aproaching Luke, he smiled at the sight of me and Eion’s gaze followed him. I walked towards Luke and he slung his arms around me.
“Dude, wanna hang out later?” He asked Eion. But Eion’s attention wasn’t directed at Luke. I saw his eyes move, lingered to the arms of Luke around me, before moving his eyes towards me and directed back his attention to Luke.
With his usual expressionless face, he shook his head slightly before replying, “I think I’ll pass, man.” He said before excusing himself and walking away.
I raised my eyebrows at Luke, who was also furrowing his brows in confusion. Probably it was the second time he rejected his offer judging from the look of Luke’s concerned expression. We just look at Eion’s retreating fading figure.
That robot and his monthly period… Anyways, forget about him.

Today is Thursday, three days since I transferred here. So far, it’s good. I had slowly adjusted to the new environment. Time flies by so fast that it is the last period for today. Sighing, I walked through the hallway.
The humid air did not help with my throbbing head. I was planning to go to the clinic but I changed my mind since it’s the last period. Clutching my head, I head to my literature class while enduring the ache.
“Hey Snow!”
Ember greeted me when she spotted me on the doorway. I forced the corners of my mouth to turn upwards, smiling in her way, and silently went to my usual seat beside her. Her brows furrowed seeing my state but didn’t say anything.
These past few days Ember and I really get along. I also made friends with some of my classmates, which is a big achievement for an introvert like me. I learned that she was from London and her family moved here last year. She also told me things about this school, the Do’s and don’ts, the gossip and rumors, and the terror teachers here.
Trying to find a comfortable position, I lean my back on my chair. I used my bag as a pillow and rested my head on it, blocking out the noise. Instead of relaxing, my body felt uncomfortable. I find my eyes peeking from my pillow while scanning around the room for a particular boy with jet black hair.
When I saw him looking at me with confusion, my face reddened for a strange reason. I averted my gaze towards my bag. But even though I focused my attention on relaxing and my position was comfortable, I still felt eyes on me.
Just as Mrs. Johnson walked in, I quickly raised my head from its previous position, making the throb of my head double. The class got quiet and she greeted us in her usual strict voice, “Good morning class.”
“Good morning Mrs. Johnson,”
“As I mentioned, today I will give you your first task. It will be my partners, and I will be the one to choose your partners,” she said.
