THE MOON GODDESS CHOICE
(A CARD OF FATE)
EPISODE TEN
THEME: Into the future
MOON STONE FORTRESS
Meagan stared out the large window as she sat rigidly. Her life in the past years played out in front of her and it felt like she might lose her mind. She shuddered lightly as the cold midday breeze hit her. The weather seem to not have any intention of coming up bright for the day. It looked gloomy just like the way she felt.
Carl watched his woman heave for what seem like the umpteenth time. She had been checking the screen of her phone every passing second, awaiting the call of their son. Even though not hearing from him wasn’t the only thing bothering her. He had woken up to a strange, unfamiliar feeling and all his wolf asked him to do was call out to the great seer.
His Luna was obviously paranoid and he himself worried about what exactly she would tell to them. Beta Julius stepped into the room, bowing his head lightly.
“How are you feeling today, Alpha?” He asked, nodding towards an unresponsive Meagan.
“Light as a feather.” Carl joked.
The look on Julius face was distant. “Please stop playing around, Alpha.”
Carl rolled his eyes. Even in his weak state he had more guts than everyone around him. He wasn’t dead yet, but they all moved about like it was his funeral.
“You all should be the one to quit being so sad. It’s weighing my wolf and I.” Carl whined, wincing as a sharp pain shot through his sides.
“You sound like it’s an easy thing to do.” Meagan said from where she sat and shot him a glare.
If it had been on a different ground, Carl would have been turned on by her anger. But he smiled weakly, as the reminder of how lifeless he was becoming came to mind.
Julius took a seat and faced Carl. “I know this isn’t my business, but you still haven’t said the reason you called for the seer.”
Meagan scoffed. Her irritation was so obvious. “I have tried to convince him, but it’s obvious his mind is made up.”
“Why are you so against this baby?” Carl queried, getting tired of her constant refusal to hear from the great seer again.
She sniffed. “I am just scared of what she has to say this time around.”
“You both are getting me confused.” Julius chipped in, looking back and forth between the couple.
“There was a prophecy.” Meagan began. Beta Julius arched his eyebrows. “Year ago before the birth of the twins, the seer was saying a whole lot of scary things and I don’t know if it’s going to turn out true or not.”
Julius looked more confused, his face scrunched up in a painful frown. He stared at Carl for help but the traitor only looked away with a faint smirk playing on his lips.
“I-” Julius was about to say something when it was announced by the door that the great seer had arrived.
Carl and Meagan’s heart jolted from its place and both of them gave each other a knowing look. Their minds uncertain of what it is they would hear. Meagan is hopeful, whatever the seer has to say this time around won’t involve any sort of conflict.
“Good day to the great Alpha and Luna. It’s a pleasure to be in your midst.” She nodded, taking her seat as usual comfortably on the floor.
The great seer had aged a bit further from the last time Meagan had seen her. Even though she was just about two years older than Carl, one would really think she was ten years older. Meagan’s mind kept wondering how someone who is in the same peer group as she and her husband know better about the future than they do and living in a world that moves through life with a scientific vision than the metaphysical realm.
In reality aside fairytales Meagan had never actually believed in people like seer or fortune tellers. Her marriage to Carl and his entire new disposition that was clearly different from her own had been an incredible phase of change.
She looked towards his lone figure on the bed, Carl was trying so hard to keep a straight face. But he was obviously going through a whole lot of pain. The man she had loved so much in her prime. She still loves him to death. And guilt consumed her when she realized she had been a bit too harsh on him since the day break when he was only trying to lighten the atmosphere.
Meagan walked up to him, she sat next to him and wrapped her hands around his weak hands giving him a reassuring smile. Carl smiled back, that was all he needed to pull through the situation they were in. A genuine smile.
“What do you have to tell us today great seer?” Carl asked in his weak voice. He still tried to speak out more authoritatively.
“Just the same as I did twenty five years ago.” The seer reminded them.
Meagan threw out her hand. “Maybe we were too scared to ask you what exactly you meant. Can you stop beating around the bush and let us know what it all means?!” Her voice was going on a high pitch. Carl squeezed her arm to calm her down.
The seer released a chortle that almost made Meagan more mad but she kept her cool.
“Remember I told you they were two nations. Now to be exactly clear, your two sons would go against each other as the younger one would be the one to always win.” She paused to see their reaction, their faces were so blank as if they still didn’t understand her words. “Expect to see a violent conflict erupt between them.” She added.
Julius who had kept mute as the drama unfolded, turned a side of his lips up. “Is that suppose to cheer us up?” He queried.
Sometimes, getting a seer just implies you looking for a way to get yourself confused. Julius eyed her discreetly.
“I really can’t believe I am hearing this right now.” Meagan kissed her teeth.
Carl was the only one who remained calm. “What can we do then?” He asked.
“A card of fate.”
“A card of fate.” Meagan mimicked her. “What’s with this card of fate you keep talking about?” She demanded.
The seer let out a snort at the Luna’s ignorance. Fate is a bitch. Meagan thought. The seer’s words was only fueling her anger.
“Let fate take its course. And it is in nobody’s place to try to figure it out.” The seer informed them. She sat up straight waiting for the Alpha to dismiss her.
“I think you sh-” Meagan began but got cut short by the ring of her phone. When she saw the caller ID, she looked white like she had just seen a ghost.
Meagan mouthed to her husband in a faint whisper. “It’s Jaylen.”
