Chapter 48. Disappointment & Anticipation.

Book:Your Days Are Numbered Mr. CEO Published:2024-5-1

You can call it stupid but Lucas sees it as looking to patch things up with the woman he loves. Albeit he doesn’t know if Sia would ever accept him in her life again.
Lucas stood outside the company looking haggard as the scorching sun lashed his skin. He cupped his hand on his forehead to lessen the sun rays creeping into his eyes as he peered around, looking for Sia.
His hair was in tatters as the gentle breeze whipped it and his dress shirt looked rumpled, peeling from the confines of his pants it’s tucked in.
He huffed, face scrunched up as he sucked in air from his parted lips.
“Sia couldn’t have gone far, could she? I think I should trek down the street in search of her.” He mouthed, clicking his tongue.
As he was about to leave the company to trek down in search of Sia, he heard his phone ringing.
Lucas paused, face crinkled as he dipped his hand into his pant pocket to wriggle out his phone.
He cupped the phone’s screen to shed it from the sun and see who was calling him.
Grey, flashed on the screen and for a teensy second, Lucas remembered his reasons for coming to the Monson group today.
He sighed, acknowledging the fact that Sia is driving him crazy.
How could have forgotten something so important?
He came to save his company but here he is, aiming to trek down the street and search for Sia.
“Fuck…” He cussed himself,
running his tongue across his teeth. “What was she doing here anyway? Is she looking for a job?” He murmured before sliding the receiving tab.
“Yes, Grey?” He muttered into the phone.
“Oh, Mr. CEO…” Grey’s high-pitched voice streamed into Lucas’s ears. “They said the widow just left the company now!” He said, frustrated.
“Yikes!” Lucas exclaimed.
Lucas put two and two together and realized that if he had gone up a little earlier and not searched for Sia he might have seen the widow.
“Shit…who told you that?” He questioned, hand on hip.
“The secretary…” Grey trailed off.
“I’m coming up. Get me the visiting card.” He wheezed into the phone and spun on his heels, heading back into the company.
Lucas bolt for the elevator when he found out nobody was in the queue and arrived at the CEO’S floor.
When the elevator dinged to a stop and the metal doors fluttered open, Lucas saw Grey standing opposite the door in the company of a lady and a guy.
He waltzed toward them, sweating profusely.
“What did you say?” His house voice rasped as he drew closer.
Grey veered, shriveling his face pathetically.
“They said she just left now, sir. What do we do?” Grey asked, looking at the sweating Lucas.
Rebekah was a little surprised to see Lucas. She actually thought he was an employee Grey came around with but hearing the word, CEO made her gag. She quietly drank in his features and wondered if Sia would consider their proposal if Lucas looks a little tattered as he is now.
“When next will she come to the company? Does she come here always?” He questioned, breathlessly.
Liam muted watching the trio as they discussed. However, he kept wondering what Lucas did that stirred Sia’s wrath to the extent that she wants his company to fold.
Much to his surprise, that same Lucas is fighting for his proposal with the Monson group to be accepted.
Without being told, Liam already knows Lucas won’t get what he’s looking for because Sia would never accept him.
He itches to reveal to truth but he knows better than to ruin Sia’s plan. However, the urge to protect Sia, and conceal her secret is much more than anything.
He chooses Sia over anyone but he can’t pinpoint the reason for doing so except that connection of a thing he feels.
“Oh, sir the widow doesn’t always come around. I can’t even tell if she’ll be here tomorrow. I’m so sorry.” Rebekah spouted, voice low.
Lucas sighed, depressed. He needs this contract. He needs it so he can extricate himself from Hera and Danika’s shackles.
“Okay…” He mouthed angling his head downwards in defeat.
“Mr. CEO, maybe we should come back some other time,” Grey suggested and Lucas inclined his head in a nod while heading toward the elevator.
When they were outside the company waiting for a taxi, Lucas’s phone blared. He annoyingly clenched it and peered at the screen.
“Grandma!” He mumbled as he picked up the call.
Meanwhile, Grey already stopped a taxi and he beckoned on Lucas who nestled his phone in his ear to step into the car. Lucas squeezed inside while answering his call.
“O, no grandma, I didn’t forget. I’m just busy with a few things.” He defended himself.
“That’s all you keep saying, boy. Anyways your sins are forgiven.” Lucas heard his grandmother say.
He smiled and cradled his free hand on his chest.
“Thank you, granny. That’s why you’ll remain the best.” He said and earned the woman’s chuckle.
“Don’t flatter me. When is my birthday Lucas?” He heard his granny ask and Lucas tilted his brows quizzically.
“Yours or mine?” He asked, pinching the skin between his brows.
“Mine!” The woman screamed.
“Oh, I see. Well, that’s on uh…December. Am I right?” He spouted.
Lucas heard something like a metal hit the floor and widened his eyes.
“Are you okay, granny?” He asked, worried.
“How can I be when you don’t know when my birthday is!!” He heard her shout and Lucas imagined her throwing her hands up in the air.
He muted.
“You nutcase think my birthday is in December but that’s when John celebrates his.” She fumed, barking into the phone.
“Ah…you mean your boyfriend?” He asked, a hint of humor evident in his voice.
“What!? He’s just my neighbor! How many times will I tell you that?” She asked.
“Oh, I see. Your neighbor but you know everything about him. Granny…” Lucas teased.
“Think whatever you want. He’s not my boyfriend.” She spouted. “My birthday is in a week.” She blurted.
Hearing that reminded Lucas that her birthday is literally on the 18th of August which is apparently next week.
He sighed and mused. “That’s true, grandma. I’m definitely going to be there.” He said.
“Thank you, boy. I don’t want you to miss it. I’ll seventy-five by then.” She proudly said.
Lucas nodded and they talked about a few things before he hung up the call.
He turned to Grey and instructed, “book a flight to Napa valley for me. I need to travel.”
Grey nodded and silence engulfed them as they rode back to the company.

By the time Sia finished receiving treatment, a painful one for that matter, at doctor Evan’s hospital it was already dark.
She peered at her Apple smartwatch and figured the time was half past eight.
Well, spending long hours in the hospital wasn’t part of the plan but, it happened that the doctor was handling an emergency case so she had to wait until he was done.
Now, they are on their way back to the Monson villa but the little traffic on the road makes the minutes they would have reached the villa morph into hours.
Sia played a Netflix video on her phone, watching the latest romantic comedy movie until a message popped up.
“Hey, pretty chick…how ya doing?” Sia read in her mind. However, she doesn’t know who the message is from considering it’s not a saved number.
Sia let her fingers fly fast on her phone’s screen, “who is this and how did you get my number?”
She exercised patience for the person’s response.
Before she blinked again, the message appeared.
“I’ll show you who it is. You on Instagram?” The person asked.
Sia reclined in hesitation before making up her mind to send the person her handle.
“Yes. Sia_2134.” She sent and logged into her Instagram account to look at the person’s picture or anything to prove who he is.
Shortly after, a message tinged and she hit her message box where she saw the picture the person sent.
“Jake!” she exclaimed in shock.
Before long the number called her and she slide the receiving button.
“Seen it? I bet you haven’t forgotten that cute face.” Jake’s voice boomed.
Sia sighed.
However, the driver had pulled into the villa and fluttered the door open for her.
She clambered down and headed into the house.
“Don’t tell me you saved my number on your phone,” Sia asked, brushing off his comment.
Of course, she remembers the overly nice dude she met in the gym. Who went all the way to alleviate her pains with his hand massage and shit.
“You want some…naked truth?” Jake asked. Sia could tell he chuckled for goodness knows what.
“And that is?” She questioned as she flopped on the couch, turning on the flat-screen TV.
“I never looked for my phone, hehe…I did it intentionally so I could get your number. Before you flare up…listen first.” He mused, endeavoring to rein Sia from bursting out with his explanation.
“Well, ladies like you are…hard to get. I know if I asked for your number, you wouldn’t have given it. So I went for the easiest means.” He replied, cockily.
“Jesus…next time, don’t try that shit with me. You are just lucky you ain’t close now.” Sia stated, balling her hands into a fist.
“Of course, there will be no next time. I already have your number.” She heard him cackle, making her roll her eyes.
Actually, Jake was right. If he had asked for Sia’s number. She definitely wouldn’t have given it out. Well, she prefers staying on her own and not letting anyone in not after her experience six years ago which ended up with heartbreak and all.
To think Sia never loved anyone all these years.
“So how are ya? Your wounds healing?” Jake asked.
“Yeah. Well, thanks for your concern Mr. I’ve got to go now…” She was just about to hang up when he asked.
“Will you come to the gym tomorrow?”
Hearing that ‘tomorrow’ reminded Sia of what she has ahead.
The meeting she needs to avail herself of.
“No.” She said coldly before dropping the call.
“Tomorrow,” Sia murmured as she sprawled herself on the couch, head resting on the armrest.
