Lucas was in his office watching a movie on his laptop when his phone rang. It was already dark but he doesn’t feel like going home yet.
Recently, his life has been a mess especially when Grey reported that he and the team couldn’t figure out who the anonymous was.
After having a board meeting with his members, some made it known that they might leave the company at any moment.
Since then, Lucas has been confused. He always stay back in his office until it’s close to midnight and he drinks more than he usually does.
He nudged his legs away from his desk where he rested them and clutched his phone from the cabinet beside him, the muscles on his forearms flexed as he moves his hands. His scruffy hair stuck to his face.
When Lucas peered at his screen, he groaned and slumped back into his seat.
“Hey man! What’s up?” Adriano’s voice blared.
Sighs. Lucas pinched the skin between his brows before responding begrudgingly, “pretty cool. What about you?”
“Always good man. Still at the office? I’m around the area. Can I drop by, pick you up and we go booze? What do you say?” Adriano asked cheerfully.
“Well…” Lucas trailed off.
“That means you are in. Gonna drop by and pick you up. Get your ass down, man.”
Lucas heard the faint chuckle in Adriano’s voice before he hung up. He grunted and stood up from his seat.
Pacing to his floor-to-ceiling windows, he looked outside the light-filled city surrounding him.
He wiggled out his phone and traipsed to his gallery where he dug up Sia’s picture. With his eyes glued to the screen, he studied Sia’s charming smile and beautiful face.
Albeit that was six years ago when she looks ragged with blotches-filled skin.
Now, she’s a goddess of beauty and more cold than she ever was.
‘The urge to speak with you grows every day, Sia. I want to have a word with you and clear my fucking mind that’s in turmoil all these years we parted.’ He mused inwardly, eyes perched on the screen.
He glided to his call tab and placed Sia on a call. Well, he doesn’t always call for fear of Sia blocking him.
He decided to be drinking in all her hateful words after all he deserved it for ever hurting her feelings.
Lucas agreed to follow any means possible to reach out and have a word with her.
At least to explain the reasons for messing up at first.
When the call went through the other side was dead silent but Lucas was so certain that Sia was there. He could hear her breathing despite it being faint.
He could hear the hammering of her heart. His heart beats just the way hers is.
Since he was not getting any response, he began spluttering.
“Hey Sia, listen uh…I just want to explain the shits that happened Six years ago to you. Believe me, I never wanted to go end up that way…”
Hearing that, Sia instantly interrupted him.
“But it ended isn’t it?”
Her rash voice sent balls of chills down Lucas’s body. He fisted his free hand at his side, digging his nails into his palm.
“It wasn’t what I…”
She interrupted him again.
“The bottom line here Lucas Evangelista is that you ended it…in the cruelest way. You…I shouldn’t be having a such flimsy discussion with you.” She exhaled and Lucas heard it clearly.
“I remember telling you to not call my line again. But you’re being adamant and unfazed. I wouldn’t want you to see the horrible side of me so I’m gently pleading you stop calling to explain your shits.”
“No Sia…”
Before Lucas could delve deep into explaining himself, the call got disconnected.
Sia disconnected the call.
Sia hates him!
Out of anger and sheer annoyance, Lucas smashed his head on the glass window, fisting his phone by his sides. Events of six years ago swimming in his mind.
“I’ll be there in five minutes.” He air quoted in his phone when Adriano’s call came in.
Lucas scrambled to his seat and clamped on his suit. These days he rarely comes to work like a real CEO. What he basically does is fit in his shirt with no tie and wrestle on his suit. He doesn’t come with his briefcase like he used to.
If ever given a chance, Lucas wouldn’t think twice about fixing the broken shards of Sia’s heart. A heart he rendered useless for some months after he spewed such heartbreaking words.
He took the elevator and ambled downstairs where Adriano parked in front of the building.
When he saw Lucas shuffling toward him his lips twitched in a smile.
“Bud, what’s up?”
Adriano asked as he shook hands with Lucas. He didn’t take cognizance of his sunken features.
Adriano rounded the car to the driver’s side where he shuffled into and opened the passenger side for Lucas.
“Wait a minute…where’s
your car? I can’t see it anywhere around.” Adriano curled his brows quizzically while his eyes fixed on Lucas who merely shrugged.
“I took Uber,” Lucas said absentmindedly.
“Uber now?”
Startled by his words, Adriano asked just to confirm.
“Yeah… my car has some issues. Not in the right mood to fix that yet.” Lucas hurled, not willing to embark on a spiel with Adriano, hence he induced him to drive off.
Shrugging, Adriano sparked his engine and they dived into the busy street.
Minutes later, they arrived at the pub Ethan and Adriano planned to meet.
Ethan sat in a booth by the right-hand side of the pub. When Adriano caught sight of him, he tilted his lips in a smile and nudged Lucas forward.
“Ethan!” Adriano called, smiling.
Ethan’s eyes flared up. He dropped the glass of wine in his hand and shook hands with Lucas and Adriano.
Unlike Adriano, Ethan noticed the look on Lucas’s face.
“Are you good, Lucas?” Ethan asked, drawing Adriano’s attention.
They both glued their eyes on Lucas who merely nodded.
“Pretty cool.” He said curtly.
When the waiter arrived the trio ordered their wines and began broaching.
Ethan told them his plans to wedding Estrella soon. Though he’s still looking forward to a contract so if he gets the contract soon, then he’ll finish the work first before the wedding but if it doesn’t come in any sooner, then the wedding will take place in a month or two months’ time.
While they were discussing, Adriano was scrolling through his social media feed, liking and commenting on people’s pictures, especially girls.
“Guys, what do you think about this chick?” He asked, flickering his phone to Lucas and Ethan.
Lucas indifferently wheezed, “not bad. She’s cool.”
“Just cool?” Adriano questioned not satisfied by Lucas’s response. Then his eyes traveled to Ethan who pinned his gaze on his phone, lips curled up in a smirk.
“Don’t look at me. I won’t say shits unless she’s the girl you plan to marry.” Ethan blurted, making Adriano burst into laughter.
“Told you both, marriage is not for me. Sticking to one pussy…it’s not for me dude. She’s just one pretty chick I’m chatting with online.” Adriano hurled complacently.
Ethan peeled his eyes from his phone and pinned on Adriano who was smiling cockily.
“Someone you met online and you… plans to fuck her!?” He asked, shocked.
Adriano couldn’t contain his laughter, “of course why not? Oh, dude don’t sound like shit now…I’m definitely going to get her in my clutches. And she’s Italian. You see…just wanna taste my home girl…” He gushed, flashing his brows at Ethan.
A dry laughter left Ethan’s lips. He shook his head and sighed.
“Shit…you need to be taught a lesson dude. Maybe getting STDs will be the right lesson…”
Hearing that Adriano barked.
“Hell no! Gosh, that can never be my thing. NEVER.”
Adriano is very cautious when it comes to his well-being. Despite the fact that he jumps from one woman to another, he never fails to go for a check-up. Sometimes, he even takes his chippies to the hospital for check-up and treatment before any other thing.
Ethan is definitely aware of that so he was just trying to pull Adriano’s legs.
All the while they were bickering, Lucas muted, just downing his drink silently.
However, Adriano continued surfing through his social media until he stumbled on the news about Lucas’s company.
“Your days are numbered, Mr. CEO…” He read aloud, shocked when the comments depicted the message was sent to Lucas’s social media account.
Adriano shockingly tore his eyes from his phone and bashed it on Lucas who was gulping hastily, legs shaking intensely.
“Lucas…what the fuck is happening?” Adriano asked, drawing Ethan’s attention.
“That’s it…my days are fucking numbered!” Lucas bitterly gushed, tightening his grip on the glass of wine.
“What!?” Both Adriano and Ethan squealed in shock.
