Leaving

The strong wind blew in my face. My hair dances with the leaves of the tree. I stared into the distance as I watched Hugo in the distance as he lifted the mangoes in the sack. I couldn’t help but stare at him in the distance. You have been like this from then until now. It would have been within reach, but he was out of sight.
They were laughing there as I remembered what the old man had said earlier. I suddenly caress my stomach. My hair stood on end at what he said. Hugo could not hear what the old man said because he suddenly push him.
What if it’s true that I’m pregnant? What will I do? I know that’s not true, but how is that? Will Hugo like it or hate it?
Chris runs towards me, carrying the mangoes in his arm. I smiled at him and laughed because he almost fell. But I suddenly stood up, remembering what he said he had asthma! “Hey! Don’t run! You might get hurt!” Despite the difficulty, I still tried to stand up. He stopped, so I was relieved.
He approached me and handed over the mangoes. I was suddenly bitten and salivated. Hugo was right to approach me so I gave it to him. I even got annoyed because he can’t get what I mean.
“Peel the mango.” That’s when he found out what I wanted. I don’t know why I’m acting like this when, in fact, I can peel a mango with my own.
I don’t know how I was able to consume five mangoes. Fortunately, Hugo turned his back, so he didn’t see how much I ate. Since there was nothing I could do, I took what I had left and went to see Hugo where the harvesters were.
I approached them and offered them the mangoes. Even what they are doing is to remove the mangoes from the tree. I want to hit my head.
They are delighted to take my mangoes in my hand and asking me where we are from. Farmers are talking to Hugo, but he couldn’t bring himself to communicate. He’s just doing help. I’m the one who’s embarrassed because he doesn’t know how to communicate.
I was feeling hot and out of breath again, so I said goodbye to take shelter first. I sat down near to him. I also saw that there are other harvests besides mangoes. Chris saw me staring there. He ran there and was carrying a basket. It was as if he had said something to a farmer and immediately took the food I was seeing being harvested.
Chris is coming to me, bringing a basket with something on it. He returned, still carrying the basket.
“This is for you. This is called Litchi small rounded fruit with sweet white scented flesh, a large central stone, and thin rough skin. Try it with the handsome brother,” he said and was ready to leave. Hugo chuckled when he heard the words handsome brother and thanked Chris.
The farmers rested too and eat what Chris had brought. We were eating and listening to farmers joking about they should finish eating because they still have a lot to finish.
When they were finished, and everything was wrapped up, their service arrived. I think it’s a truck that will deliver to the city to be able to trade food. It is impossible to exchange money there because there are no shops here to use money.
It will be dark when we get back. I feel a little better. Perhaps I am not feeling well earlier because it’s really hot. When I arrived, what the old man had said came back to me.

Days and weeks passed. I didn’t realize that we were coming to an end to supplying food. We only need a week and we’re done and going home. But what worries me the most is the swollen of my tummy. I’ve already started wearing Hugo’s oversized clothes because that’s becoming obvious. My heartbeat is also getting stronger because I’m already getting the idea. I’m just denying that to myself. Hugo even wondered why I vomited so often every morning, or why I suddenly wanted to wear his clothes.
I just said that I was getting hot, and I was getting cramped in my clothes.
I was in the middle of thinking when I hear a truck. I was surprised to look out the window because all I knew was that the next delivery would be next week.
I’m not mistaken that they are the ones. I am even more surprised that they are carrying more now. They already have four trucks. When the trucks stopped, the employee immediately came out and took out the food and medicine. That’s not plastic anymore. They are now in the box.
I went out immediately and attended to Hugo, who was talking to them. I approached them and asked. “What’s going on here?”
Hugo grabbed my waist, but quickly turned to me to confirm why my stomach was so big. That’s not what I focused on, but what’s happening. I just looked at the driver, waiting for his answer.
“Ma’am Helena said that you have to come back because you need to prepare for your wedding. Another thing is that it looks like the people here have recovered. They will continue to be supplied every month.”
I was relieved when he said that they would still receive every month. While I was talking to them, someone approached me. Chris. He held my hand as tears formed at the corners of his eyes.
“Are you already leaving?”
I learned to match his height. I took his small hand and kissed him. I smiled at him. “I’ll come back from time to time. And one more thing, I have to go home to build a school for you.” I encouraged him.
I turned to Hugo now, who was staring at me seriously and deeply.
