Feelings

Book:The CEO's Contracted Wife Published:2024-5-1

Adele sat up in bed, her body floating in mid-air. She was at a loss for what to do. She knew and was certain that the woman she and her Aunt Julia were helping was Hugo’s lover, who had died. Hugo’s Soleil.
She bites her nails because she isn’t sure whether to tell Hugo or Helena. When she arrived home, it was late at night; she didn’t go to her Aunt Julia’s house since it was already dark and she needed to return to take care of their wedding preparations.
Coming home seemed the same as before, without mommy Helena or daddy Adelard. Hugo was too late to return home, so she didn’t expect him to be there. She was pondering when she heard a knock on the door. She looked at the clock on their wall and noticed that it was only 7:30 p. m. When she didn’t respond, the person outside spoke out.
“Adele, ma’am. Have you had your dinner? We made food, and I’m waiting for you since Señorito Hugo said he’ll be home late because Madam Helena and Sir Adelard are on an unexpected business trip. Should I get you some food, or you will go to the kitchen yourself?” It’s Esther.
Other than Esther and Estella, no other helper tried to approach her. She has also become attached to them.
“Esther, no. I’m still stuffed.” Adele said nothing else since she has still a hangover with what she had learned. She was certain it was Soleil, Hugo’s ‘dead’ fiancee. Helena stated the plane exploded, killing Soleil and her family. Adele’s thoughts were suddenly filled with a question.
‘Couldn’t it be that her face is like that because of the explosion and she barely happened to survive?’ Adele was at a loss for words, but a chisel pierced her heart. She had no idea where that was coming from, but she was certain of one thing.
That she didn’t want to tell Hugo about Soleil. She’s not sure why, but she’s terrified…

Hugo picked the newspaper on his table. Everything was good, and he had no idea how the problem had arisen. There was an issue with the medication supplies they provided. He discovered that the other capsules were all empty pill containers with no powder.
Someone called him again while he was reading the newspaper. The issue persists not only because of the minor issue but also with major complaints.
He massaged his head while making a telephone call. They are now directly sending the call to him because he no longer has a secretary; he also does not understand why he doesn’t want Adele to work, even though Adele’s role should be to be his secretary.
He pressed the telephone to his ear and listen to the person.” Mr. Whitlock, there was an issue with one of the pharmacies that we supply. Many people queued up to report that your drugs were causing their diseases and illness to worsen.” Hugo’s head hurt even more since he knew some of them were merely exploiting the situation to give them money while pretending to be afflicted by the incorrect medicines. Before he could respond, he heard someone arrive and yell in the office of the person he was speaking with.
When it went silent, he responded, “Mr. Williams, my parents are taking care of the matter, so you can be certain that it will be resolved. I will also send security personnel to ensure that no damage occurs in the stores and that no one gets injured.”
He reclined back in his swivel chair once they finished conversing. When he unlocked his phone and noticed that Adele had no messages, he went to Instagram to see whether she was online. He saw Adele’s latest message and smiled as if his fatigue had vanished.
He checked the clock on the top of his phone and noticed that it was already dawn. Because of a series of complaints, he was unaware of the time.
“How come you’re still awake?” He would have teased Adele because every time Adele gets upset with him, he has a new type of excitement. But he had no idea why the wind was blowing differently. It was as though all he wanted to do right now was talk to Adele.
He was usually late getting home, and every time he was so exhausted that he fell asleep without being able to change his clothing, he was shocked the next day that he already changed. Adele’s modest gestures make his heart feel alive since she reminds him of his deceased fiancee. Also easily teased and usually being fussy, yet so lovely and caring.
He backs his phone and opened an app. When he opened it, he saw hundreds of photographs of him and Soleil. He still missed her, even though it had been a long time. The injury had occurred a long time ago, and he could see he was improving.
His facial expression changed, and he showed a playful smile when he saw Adele making a video call with him.
He answered the call. “Do you miss me?” Adele is beautiful. She has an angelic face. When she first sees Adele, she admits she mistook her as Soleil because they are all the same, even though the demeanor is like Soleil’s. Now she’s not sure if the joy she feels for Adele is still because of the similarities she and Soleil have.
Adele smiled at him, not a sarcastic or a teasing smile. A genuine smile. Hugo’s hair stood on end as Adele spoke with a newly awakened voice.
“I just woke up. What time are you going home?”
“On my way.”

Adele went out the door to wait for Hugo’s arrival. Because of her dream, she seemed to realize how she felt about Hugo. She doesn’t know where her feelings are going, but she wants to try…
When Hugo arrived, Adele approach him and quickly wrapped her hand around his neck. The cool breeze and moonlight were the only witnesses to what she did.
