Chapter Fifty-Six – Weird Guy.
Rihanna’s POV
I was still smiling ear to ear as I walked Chris back to his carriage. Jaden’s brag on Black Rose History was impressive.
Black Hills had celebrated hundred years when Chris had turned eighteen a year before I did. Black Rose was the true Kingdom amongst us.
“I wouldn’t be visiting here again, unless I have to.” Chris said, climbing his carriage.
I flipped my hair back, exposing my face which I had been hiding behind my hair for scary effect. “You will have to.” I chuckled.
I noticed his eyes lingered on my face and I scoffed. “What? Did you think I was beautiful when I laughed? That line is dead now.”
“Just as Rihanna is. Before me is Your Silver, I was very well aware.” He replied.
I shook my head. “If you console yourself with, Rihanna is dead, then fine. But her spirit will always haunt you, in form of Your Silver.”
He slammed the door closed and I heard him sit angrily inside. A smile was etched to my face, knowing I displeased him.
I returned to the sitting room, while trying to find Dara in mind link. Perhaps I was a bit harsh to her, she was speaking nothing but facts.
Camilla disrupted my search by informing me Chris had passed our border and was heading home.
It was good to know we didn’t breathe the same air. I couldn’t find Dara and let it go.
“So what was the exact reason you came here?” I asked, folding my arms as I walked in at where Jaden was.
He was staring into space and only came back when I sat down.
“Um… yeah. I caught a spy who informed me a Lycan will be sent to…. kill you.” He looked unsure. “Or something like that?”
“Why?” I was nearly alarmed. The Lycan I was still hoping to save, being sent to kill me? I knew it was to be traded with me but.. “Sure?” I asked.
There was a way he added “something like that?” that made me unsure of him.
He shrugged. “It was said to be a plan of Red Moon and Black Hills but Chris didn’t seem like he had in mind to kill you now.”
Red Moon was indeed Black Hills puppet, or were they the ones puppeteering Black Hills? It was flattering that they both thought of me.
But why would Chris want to kill me when he’s claiming I belonged to him? “It didn’t add up.” I said.
Alpha Jaden nodded. “Lots of thing that spy said didn’t add up, like Red Moon getting a Lycan King? That’s huge.”
Lycan King? It was a damn Lycan King that was being sent to kill me? I’m as good as dead. I turned to Jaden and stared at him blankly.
Was he worried his mate was about being assassinated? Was that why he ran all the way here? I did notice his horse wasn’t outside.
“You just realized I am handsome or you spaced out while looking at me?” his voice brought me back to consciousness.
“I have seen more handsome men, believe me. I was just thinking.” I scoffed.
“I believe you.” He grunted, leaving his seat. “But if a Lycan is really after you, I don’t think you should move around alone.”
A sigh escaped my lips. He had a point there, I was too used to playing solo but things should change since I was now an Alpha.
I had to depend on my pack while they depended on me too. Warriors had to stay at the border, it was their specialty to identify threats on time.
I nodded. “I’d take that as an advice from existing Alpha to new Alpha.”
He had spaced off again by the time I looked up at him. Where did he usually go to? I peered closer into his eyes and noticed they were red.
Was he speaking to his wolf? Why would he be speaking with his wolf and his eyes glowed red?
“Are you okay? What are you doing?” I tugged at his torso. As I felt them, they were hard and seemed nicely shaped. I pulled my hand away.
He looked down at me, dismissively. “Did you call?” his eyes were normal again.
Okay, so he had to be weird guy. The Moon goddess must have a sense of humor.
First gave me an adorable mate who rejected me. Now, a weird mate who seemed caring. Don’t I deserve a full ten?!
“No, I didn’t call. You’d have heard me if I did.” I clicked my tongue. “You’ve warned me of the Lycan, you can head home now…”
“Don’t chase me yet.”
I turned to him. “What?”
His eyes were red again, then turned back to white. “Chris is planning something bad, I’d need to be careful.”
Chris? What did Chris have to do with anything we’ve been discussing for the last two minutes? He left almost five minutes ago.
“Wait, were you listening to him? Is that why you spaced off?” I walked closer to him.
He took a step back. “Yes, and why does that seem new?”
“Well, it’s weird, intrusive and I don’t know someone who could hear miles off. Before I walked in, Chris had past my borders so…”
My mind went back to him calling for the scout back then. He had mistaken me for a scout but he being able to hear far off… was impressive.
“I am not your average Alpha then.” He sighed, shaking his head. “Live how you want, you’re not his problem, thankfully.”
I wasn’t his problem? Hadn’t he said I should be careful? “Tell me, what did you hear?”
He looked down, biting his lower lips. “It wouldn’t bother you so no need to tell you.”
That was okay with me, it didn’t seem like my problem then. I shrugged, keeping the seats closer to the table.
“In that case, thank you for your time, I will be off running my pack and you should to. On the day of coronation, you’d be blessing the land.”
He nodded absentmindedly, then looked up again. “You didn’t even persist to know, of course, it wouldn’t bother you.” He chuckled.
That chuckled seemed painful, followed by a fake smile I was well too familiar with.
What exactly was Chris gossiping about that would give such reaction?
Still, I shouldn’t care. It wasn’t detrimental to me. “I avoid problems and overthinking. Could you please spare me?”
“Gladly.” He said moving back. “I’d head back now. Stay safe.”
One minute he’s saying live your how you want, the next he’s saying be safe?
I should assume it’s just the mate instincts. “Yeah, I will.”
It was when it left my lips that I figured I should have replied with “You too.” He was already gone by then.
