Chapter Forty-Nine – Sharing secrets.
Rihanna’s POV
About two hours ago, I felt I might have been a dead wolf. The amount of fear that ran through me those few seconds were intense.
But I pushed them off, no wolf was going to strike fear in me. I am Your Silver. The one who struck fear in wolfs.
Blue Fire pack hadn’t been in my black list as I thought they were just influenced by Red Moon but then, they had influenced Blue Bloom.
They were as corrupt and dared send their warrior after me a week after I was announced one of theirs?
They’d have a taste of me, of course, in a subtle way since we aren’t rogues.
“Feel better now?” I heard Jaden behind me.
My wolf Lana smiled and informed me to be nice to him. Why did I feel like this gesture was going to cost me a favor?
“Yeah, thanks.” I answered nonchalantly. “Care for tea?” I asked, trying to be nicer.
“Sure.” He responded.
I knew he would. He was looking for any reason to stay longer. It was almost evening and he and his workers could return.
“Thank you.” I said to the warrior who served us the tea. She was wearing her uniform with a dagger on her sides.
Jaden noticed it and smirked. “I can introduce you to some servants you can pay to work for you. Your warriors should train.”
“We don’t complain.” The warrior turned to him and said then walked out with the tray she brought in, along with his spoon.
He gasped and stayed quiet. I chuckled.
“I can easily find willing persons and keep on paycheck. You need not worry. Also, you will be returning with your warriors.”
He choked on his tea and dropped it on the table. I wasn’t sure if it was because it was hot and he had no spoon or it was what I said.
“You want to give me no reason to visit you, right?” he sounded offended.
That was far from the reason, I could pay workers to build. His warriors doing it for free, or because we were allies, felt like slavery to me.
“I really appreciate you helping me. I just want to bear the cost of everything I will be using to raise my empire.” I countered.
“Empire?” he raised a brow.
“You heard right, Alpha. My empire. And I don’t want to be indebted to anyone.” I added.
His head bopped to unknown music, he took the cup to his lips again but didn’t drink it. “I’m impressed you want to be independent.”
Of course, I was impressive. I gulped down all my tea and rose from my chair. “Yeah. I should continue my patrol…”
“You didn’t sound this impressive while at Black Hills though.” he continued, making me stop in my tracks. I replaced my butt back on my chair.
I didn’t want to reminisce on my time back at Black Hills as it was in the past, but I had created a better future for myself so it didn’t scare me.
And my voice was low at Black Hill’s as my Alpha never valued me. Redemption only came after I left.
“Jake had told me about the Beta vote for Ray and his twin. I’ve never seen a twin before and wondered what you looked like.” Jaden added.
He sipped from his cup finally and placed it down again.
“Yeah, twin wolfs are rare.” Was all I said.
“Coupled with one being a silver wolf and the other gave no care for he world.”
“Ray?” I smiled.
Jaden nodded. “He is quite a nonchalant and blunt person but in a good way. Sometimes.”
I chuckled silently at the ‘sometimes’. Ray had grown up well then if someone testified this of him.
I heard he was in suspension after my visit, there was no need to feel and if he would be living his best life.
“I wasn’t my parents favorite growing up. Ray was, and had a lot of space for free speech.” I felt the need to share to him.
“Don’t tell anyone that though.” I hurriedly added, not to look weak in front of him.
He chuckled. “We are sharing secrets now? As Mates or Allies?”
Did he really want to get into the mate stuff again? I will be disappointing him. “As Allies.”
He nodded. “Well, I actually relate to that too.”
“You do?” How could he related to being the least liked child if he was Alpha? “You must have proven yourself to be where you are now.”
He nodded. “Many thought I shouldn’t be Alpha.”
“Why?” I asked.
My story was being hated cos I displeased princess Vanessa. What was his? Was it viable?
He turned to me but looked away before I turned. “I’m not sure. My father and uncles wanted Jake as Alpha as I seemed quite autistic growing up.”
Was that a reason? Most people grew out of autism and many managed it. “Your father and Uncles? That’s like the whole family, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, except my mom and Jake, he didn’t want to be tied to duty and formalities. He wants to be expressive, he’s stubborn.” Jaden explained.
The way he spoke of his brother showed he held no grudge against him for being the favorite.
Well, I also held none for Ray. It wasn’t his fault. And between us two, he was usually careful.
“I want to know though.” Jaden turned to me again, this time keeping eye contact till I looked.
“Yeah?”
“You know we are mates, right? I really wanted to ask directly as you always ignored it.” His tone was low.
I blinked twice then once again. I shouldn’t be telling him that I felt nothing because I wasn’t with Ray. It’d raise more questions.
But he seemed like he needed answers. And if it were I who found my mate, I’d like to know why he ignored our mate bond.
“Without my twin Ray, I can’t feel the mate bond. I will only feel it when the rites of mating is done.” I said quickly.
I reached for the cup of tea but found it empty, I slapped it back on the table and made sure I made no eye contact with Jaden.
“Twin telepathy and connection. I read that once.” He broke the five seconds silence.
I heaved a sigh of relief that he wasn’t requesting having the mating rites done so I’d feel it. “Yeah, that.”
“But Ray found his mate. How did he?” he looked at me suspiciously.
I exhaled, before letting out the whole tea.
“We had met while he chased after Beta Gaius on the night I killed him. Ray was with a warrior who he found was his mate when with me.”
I looked at him for a distinct facial reaction, he only seemed stunned.
“So he knew you were Your Silver before you stormed Black Hills?” It didn’t sound much like a question.
“Yes. Don’t tell Jake that. Or anyone.” I said.
He tilted his head. “We are sharing another secret?”
“Yes, and even more important as it can put Ray in real trouble.” I frowned, subtly regretting sharing.
“Right, is this another secret shared as Allies or Mates?”
“Mates.” I shrugged.
He made a small smile. “Fine. To the grave, with me, it goes.”
