Chapter Ten – A Rogue Silver.
Chris’s POV
A coronation should be a joyful thing but mine wasn’t. I always looked at the day with love but as it came, everything annoyed me to the bone.
There was still no news of Rih’s body, but it was speculated to have been beaten by fishes since a farmer had seen blood in the river once.
That must have been painful and my heart would always be heavy about it, a guilt I couldn’t remove. More painful than rejecting my mate.
I looked ahead at the Alphas and leaders of packs that congratulated me.
The Black Rose Pack was next and only Jake Justin and his warriors attended.
“Oh Alpha King, congratulations!” he smirked, stretching his hand for a shake.
I took it nonchalantly and shook it but I did notice the little squeeze he gave my hand. “Why didn’t your mother attend?”
His eyes shone. “You know I have a mother? Or was this a new knowledge you amassed as the new Alpha King?”
A sighed left my lips. He was tiring to guilt trip in every way, but I had recently known this.
I’ve heard scary things about the Alpha, I hadn’t really expected a female. “Don’t start, Jake. But yes, I recently realized your Alpha was female…”
“One that shouldn’t be looked down on. She hunted wolves with your grandfather and father. And she’s a true Alpha, not a hand-me-down.”
His lips tugged mockingly as he addressed my Alpha status as a hand-me-down from my father. I leaned towards him. “And so would you be.”
He shook his head immediately. “I am not the next in line to the throne.”
My expression changed.
“See, you know nothing about my pack. I’d educate you about your most powerful ally when you’re done greeting the others.” He huffed.
My expression changed as my Brian tried to process how he wasn’t the next in line? He was the Alphas son.
He walked away from me and disappeared into the crowd, I still saw his dark shiny hair moving towards the door.
Was he staying to teach me or leaving? It was good riddance anyway.
I faked a smile and continued greeting the other guests. My arranged Luna, Sasha, rushed to me with a glass of water when I sat on the throne.
“My Alpha, here, to quench your thirst.” she looked down, a smile plastered on her face.
Looking into her face, I remembered telling her in mind link, when she bullied Rih, that she was a maid and shouldn’t bother a Beta’s daughter.
She had cried then ran off but now, I had accepted her when I rejected Rih who I claimed was worthy more than her.
Rih would have mocked me to death if she’d seen this ironic drama played out. My wolf wasn’t even with me during this coronation.
He had been far from me, taking in everything very slowly.
I took the glass of water from Sasha so she wouldn’t linger around me. “Thank you, you may leave.”
She immediately scurried off, to giggle and judge the guests, her people, with Vanessa.
I was sure it had been Vanessa who asked my father for Sasha to be my arranged mate.
Even if they quarreled that day, they bonded again over Rih being rejected.
My coronation finally ended after my speech and ‘wedding’ to Sasha. The guests dispersed, some stayed for refreshments.
My mother came to me, wearing an unreadable look. “I know today wouldn’t be your best day, but just try to be happy, hmm?”
I nodded, forcing a smile to my face. She hadn’t agreed for Sasha to be my Luna but since my father insisted, she let it go.
Going outside, I met Jake Justin still around and not yet gone.
He was looking at the stars with Raymond, someone who had avoided speaking with me all through the coronation.
I was grateful he had agreed being coronated Beta anyway. “Jake Justin, you didn’t leave?” I marched to them.
“I never said I would.” He replied without turning to me. “I had a question but your Beta answered it.” He finally turned. “I’d leave now.”
My eyes rolled and I cocked my head. “We’ve had our differences. Please continue upholding good relations between our packs.”
Ray detached from him and made a bow, before walking into the room.
I watched him leave, I didn’t want him to be my ‘beck-and-call’ Beta, like his father had been to mine. But he was distant even if I apologized.
“You can’t repair that relationship.” Jake Justin told me, I looked back at him and stayed besides him. “I will try to.”
“You killed his sister, the hell do you want him to do with you? Smile? He can only serve as he’s bound to do, expect nothing else.” Jake sighed.
But I wouldn’t. Rihanna’s death hurt me as it did him, and they were more pressing issues than that, which we’d require our total cooperation.
“That aside, what question did you have to ask?”
He glanced at me, then back at the stars. “Never mind. I asked if someone had declared being a rogue recently from you pack?”
My forehead creased. “No.” We’ve never had any pack member become rogue. It’s the Alpha King’s pack, all would be proud to belong.
“Why? A rogue issue? Black Rose Pack handled those well or don’t you now?” I tried to tease.
“We do. Only that this one was a Silver Wolf. And he was causing a lot of havoc.” Jake Justin clenched his fists slightly.
“A silver wolf?” my eyes enlarged. It’d been long since we saw one around here.
Why’d a silver wolf be rogue when lots of pack would want him with them?
“Yes, recently our Delta was attacked by some hunters from an unknown pack. We tried handling them but he came forth.” Jake said.
Frustration was in his tone.
“I sent more warriors to get the hunters but they couldn’t find them. The hunters returned to attack again but he saved them. It’s frustrating!” he slammed his hand on the wall.
I was low-key glad seeing him frustrated about something, or just seeing the Black Rose Pack having trouble with canceling someone.
They always acted high and mighty. However, this Silver Wolf could be a bigger threat to all the packs, as the Alpha King I should respond.
“Find a way to capture that Silver Wolf, they are rare and can’t be killed. Maybe he thinks your pack is doing something wrong.” I noted.
Jake Justin scoffed. “He’d wait till I skin him alive. My pack has two old silver wolfs, we don’t need young troublesome ones. We’d kill him!”
I held unto his arm as he tried to leave. “That was an order from your Alpha King. We don’t kill Silver Wolfs anymore.”
He shoved my hands away. It reminded me of how Ray shoved my father’s hands on the day Rih died. It made my heart sink and boil.
“This is my pack, your orders aren’t needed. I asked Ray if the rogue was from your pack, he’s not so don’t worry about him.” Jake intoned.
He brushed past me and walked into the hall.
