APRIL
Immediately I stepped out of Rowan’s house, my eyes flipped to someone whose familiar back was turned towards me but was obviously contemplating on knocking at my door or not. I watched the person as he tightened his fist and made to knock on the door but soon stopped himself from doing that, I squinted my eyes while trying to remember who owned the back but when I couldn’t get any, I cleared my throat in an attempt to gain his attention and he turned to me instantly.
“Are you going to knock or not?” I questioned and he bit on his lower lips before talking.
“April, can I talk to you?” Felix asked and I raised my brows.
“If it’s about you and Sophia, then I’m afraid we can’t talk.”
He bobbed his head.
“I know you’re probably mad at me…”
“Not probably, I’m definitely mad at you. I had high hopes, I thought you were different from other guys but…”
He cut me short. “I am. She didn’t give me the chance to explain things to her. I never cheated on Sophia, even when she wasn’t here. It was just an accident. We were both drunk, I was not in my right senses, I didn’t know what I was doing,” he uttered in a pleading tone that almost made me believe him but with my experiences with men, I knew better than to do that.
“You know Sophia didn’t like that lady, she already warned you against her but yet you still went out with her and ended up drunk. Do you know how Sophia felt when that fool sent the video to her? A sex video of her boyfriend and another lady?”
He let out a frustrated sigh as his hand went through his jet black hair then the door opened suddenly and Sophia stopped in her tracks.
“What are you doing here?” She nearly screamed.
“Babe, we need to talk. I’m here to talk to you,” Felix replied in a very calm tone that was almost like a whisper.
“I already made it clear to you. Do I need to keep telling you over and over again? I’ll appreciate it if you don’t come here again. The better you accept the fact that there’s no more ‘us’ the good for you.” She scowled at him and he took a step closer to her but she shut the door in his face.
“Can you help me speak to her? I promise it won’t happen again. We can’t just end things,” he turned to me and I could see the sincerity in his eyes though he looked pathetic.
“I’ll try.”
“Thanks, I’ll count on you.” He forced a small smile out of his face before taking his leave then I opened the door and walked into my house only to see Sophia on the couch gulping down the last bottle of wine that was left untouched the previous night, quickly, I skipped to her and grabbed the half-empty bottle.
“Get yourself together,” I told her as I picked up the lid of the bottle.
“Give it to me,” she demanded and I shook my head before replacing the cap and then returning it to the fridge.
“We have to get to work,” I reminded her when I returned to the living room and met her staring into space.
“I think I’ll need a day off,” she replied and I snorted.
“Why? Work is what you need to get your mind off the whole issue, also, you’re still an intern. You need to be up on your toes and dilligent, so, get your ass up and let’s go prepare for work,” I concluded.
“But…”
“No buts, go take your bath.” I pulled her up with all my strength since she was two times my size, after successfully doing that, she didn’t have any other option than to go to the bathroom while I headed to the room to pick out my cloth for the day which I did in a few minutes as I settled on a black freeyard gown. Then I headed to the kitchen to prepare a quick breakfast of omelet.
Sophia came out of the bathroom when I was done cooking, so, she took over by setting the table while I went to the bathroom for a shower as I’d taken my bath earlier before going to Rowan’s place. When I returned to the living room now dressed in the cloth I’d picked earlier, Sophia was also dressed in a gown just that hers was bodycon, we both sat down for breakfast and some minutes later, we headed to the hospital.
Going our separate ways, we came together after work. Good thing we both got off work at the same time and since it was still so early in the evening so we decided to catch fun instead of going home. At first we went on a shopping spree even though we’d ended up buying two clothes each on a discount then we stopped at the spa for a makeover.
“I’ll treat you to dinner,” Sophia announced when we both stepped out of the spa. I looked up at Sophia as my height stopped at her shoulders, she’d changed her hair color to brown while I curled mine.
“Really?”
“Yeah, this is our own date. We don’t need any guy,” she replied and I smirked.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course. Let’s go.” She placed her hand on my shoulder before leading the way to a restuarant that wasn’t far from the spa. We took our seats by the right corner and soon a waiter walked up to us, she took her leave after we placed our order and then returned with a bottle of champagne which was on the house, then she disappeared again.
“Let’s make a toast,” Sophia offered after filling our glass and i nodded before picking up my glass.
“Cheers.”
“Cheers to a single life,” Sophia uttered as we clinked the glass and I chuckled.
“Single life?”
“Single life is the best,” she shouted this time and I almost walked out on her due to the embarrassment.
