CHAPTER 7
APRIL
I woke up feeling sores all over my body, my head was banging so much that I wanted to separate it from my body but the worst of all was the fact that I was not in my house.
Looking around the house, it was apparent I was in an unfamiliar place and I feared I could have done something bad. How did I end up in somebody’s house? I tried recalling everything that happened the previous night while trying to pinpoint if I followed a man to his house or not but no matter how much I racked my brain, I just couldn’t remember anything.
Though I was aware of the fact that I always committed some mistakes whenever I got drunk; main reason I always avoided doing so, knowing the mess I could create.
I’d tried to avoid it for the past few days after Ray dropped the bomb on me but when I realised I was really wallowing in self pity and it was already affecting my mental health just as Matilda stated, she’d advised we go get some drinks but had left halfway through because she had an emergency to attend to.
Since she wasn’t there to caution me or put me under leash, I’d ended up drinking more than my capacity but I never expected it to be entering another person’s home? Or did someone find me passed out on streets and decided to bring me to their house.
Did I get kidnapped or what? Different horrifying thoughts tumbled in my head but looking down at myself, I noticed everything was still intact. I was still fully clothed in my blue halter neck top and midi black fish tail skirt, so, I guess nothing happened.
“You’re awake?” A deep voice that almost made my heart jump out my chest questioned and I got up immediately.
Turning to the direction of the voice, my eyes almost popped out of their sockets when my eyes came in contact with the owner of that voice and much to my surprise, it turned out to be the person that made me the topic of discussion in the past few days.
When did he get discharged from the hospital? How come I ended up in his house or did he follow me under the pretext of showing gratitude?
The thought of that made me shudder as my mind went back to four days back when I was trying to get myself together and head home after Ray dumped me shamelessly, I’d somehow lost my mind that I forgot I went there with my car.
It was while I was trekking to where God knows that I realised someone was following me, fear gripped me that instant and panic took over my body but luckily, Matilda had appeared from nowhere and helped me calm down. It wasn’t until then that the person who had been folllowing me appeared in front of us and introduced himself as a family member of the billionaire I’d saved.
Romeo or whatever his name was, I couldn’t remember the name of the person I’d saved.
Then the man went on by saying I had to follow him. His family wanted to show their gratitude and they wanted me to come over for dinner but since I wasn’t in my right senses, I declined the offer and returned to my car with the help of Matilda. After that day, I didn’t step out of the house but a particular number kept on calling me claiming he wanted to show some gratitude, when ut became creepy and I couldn’t take it anymore, I blacklisted the number.
There was no way I would allow the same thing repeat itself all over again.
Back to present.
“Why are you here?” I screamed and the guy squinted his eyes before walking up to me with the aid of crutches.
“I should be asking you that. You crashed in my place last night,” he replied while I stepped back. He gave me a blank look before taking his seat on the sofa.
“How can this be your place? From what I heard, you’re a wealthy person. How can a billionaire stay in this type of apartment? You need to think of a better lie,” I told him.
“Well, you can give me an idea then.”
“Did you kidnap me under the excuse that you wanted to show some gratitude?” I asked and he scoffed.
“Why would your thoughts wander to such extent? Do I look like a kidnapper and why would I want to kidnap you? If I wanted to show my gratitude, you think kidnapping you is the way? You must really have some messed up mind,” he uttered and I heaved a sigh of relief.
“That’s reasonable.”
“You need to be reasonable. I never expected a doctor would behave like you,” he stated and I resisted the urge to glare at him.
“Are you insulting me?”
“Nope. I’m stating the facts. You went on a leave just to get drunk or what?”
“That’s none of your business,” I fired and he nodded.
“Of course. My business is the fact that you entered my house without my permission, that could be considered as burglary,” he said and I pursed my lips.
“Not under the fact that I was drunk.”
“You could have pretended to be drunk, we can’t know for sure that you were drunk unlesss we run a test. We both know that someone is after my life so, you could as well be a suspect.”
“I saved you twice, remmber?” I glared at him this time and he scoffed.
“Yeah, but who knows? Maybe it was all a lie, you were present at both places and even now, you can be tagged a suspect too,” he pointed out and I shook my head.
“You’re such an ingrate.” I punctuated it with a scathing hiss before heading to the door but as soon as I placed my hand on the door knob, the door opened and my eyes met dazzling hazel eyes.
She creased her brows as her eyes ran through my body and that made me feel self conscious reminding me of the fact that I was looking haggard with my hair all over the place.
“Hey,” she greeted with a wide smile; one that made me wonder if we’d met before because she looked somehow excited to see me.
“Hi,” I replied.
“You’re the one that saved Rowan, right?” She questioned as she stepped into the house and dragged me along with her, against my will.
“Hey, Rowan.” She waved at the guy who beamed upon seeing her.
Wow! His smile was beautiful.
“How come she’s at your place so early in the morning?” She asked and before Rowan could open his mouth to respond, she turned to me with her smile not wavering.
“We’ve been looking for you. I never expected to see you like this, anyway, thanks for saving his life twice. He really owes you one and I know saying thanks wouldn’t be enough. What do you want?” She asked and I glanced at Rowan who looked unbothered.
“Nothing, I’m fine. I was only doing my job, no big deal,” I replied and the pretty lady shook her head.
She was someone that the word ‘beautiful’ wasn’t enough to describe how she looked, she could easily be mistaken as a fallen angel. She had the type of face that you couldn’t comprehend how it came to existence and her body, goodness! It was in the perfect shape.
Her body was the envy of every one. Hourglass. The green cut out ruched body con dress didn’t do much in concealing her body but instead highlighted her curves in the most gorgeous way. Apparently, she was a woman of substance.
How can someone have everything? She must really be God’s favorite daughter. Compared to me, I must have been created when the materials had almost finished.
“No. no, no,” She wagged her index finger that showed her neatly painted nails. Everything about her showed opulence.
“We can’t do that. We need to appreciate you because you also risked your life for him, you could have been shot back then too, so, just tell me whatever you want. I’ll make sure it’s done, right, Rowan?” She turned to the guy that was now typing away on his phone.
“Sure. I already employed her to be my attending doctor and I’ll be paying her tons of money but you could still consider doing more,” Rowan stated and I arched my brows.
“Wait, are you the person I’ll be attending to?” I asked and he only gave a half shrug.
My goddness! How come I didn’t know? I’d declined the offer at first but when the money had been mentioned, it was just too sweet to let go of such. Normally, it was two times my annual salary that would be paid in a month, I’d been suspicious too but Matilda made me see no harm in it. After all, it was enough to pay off all my debts.
“You’re still making her work for the money though, that isn’t a way to show appreciation,” the pretty lady reprimanded.
“Ailey, that was the only thing I could think of. You’re the generous one here,” he pointed out and I rolled my eyes.
“It’s fine by me, you don’t have to do any other thing,” I told Ailey who lifted her brows.
“Are you sure?” She asked and I nodded.
“Okay then but don’t hesitate to let me know when you need help,” she concluded.
“Sure,” I glanced at Rowan before taking my leave.
When I stepped out of the room, I ran my hands through my hair. Then I noticed his apartment was just opposite mine. No wonder I mistakenly entered his apartment. Drunk April was equivalent to mistakes. But why on earth would he move into the house opposite mine? Does he have an ulterior motive or it was only coincidental?
How can such be coincidental? Why would a billionaire live in apartment like mine when he could buy the whole building and wouldn’t feel any hole in his pocket? Definitely, something was going on.
Wait, what? Why?
