Kiara POV
With my head relaxed on my desk, I was sleeping soundly and quietly. But all of a sudden, I felt a steady breath fanning against my face. My eyelids trembled for a moment before I opened my eyes widely to behold him watching my face, I hurriedly put up my head, smoothing my ruffled hair then adjusted myself on the seat, composedly. “How was the nap? I hope you saw me in your daydream?” He asked warmly, reaching out to caress my hair. Wasn’t he offended? I glanced at him and caught him grinning as he still continues to toy with my hair. Jeez, when and how did I even fall asleep?
I attempted to say something, but the right words aren’t coming at that moment. So, I just held my tongue down and kept shut. “It’s day over, let’s go home” I pondered it for a moment, home? Why does that sound so thrilling in my ear? I ignored the prickling sensation on my cheeks, drew in a deep breath, then lifted my head to look at him. He had a profound smile swaying on his lips, he looks so gentle and real. Where has the formidable CEO gone to? But I still refused to be tempted by it, it’s all an act. However, why would he be putting on an act when he understands my key and how to press it whenever he needs me? “Kiara?” called his pale voice, I unhurriedly got on my feet and went to carry his briefcase. “Let’s go, sir,” I told him, and walked toward the door and opened it extensively for him. And without unlocking his intense gaze from my face, he left my desk and ambled to the door, as soon as he got close to the door, he held my hand on the doorknob and shut the door.
His wide, firm, and warm palm embraced my waist. He brought his lips right to my ear, “You can’t run from me now, Kiara” He let out huskily, nibbling at my earlobe. I shut my eyes, what has come over him? Did he by chance take the wrong medicine? “Let’s go home” He repeated, nevertheless sucking on my neck. I’m sure he would be leaving a hickey. “We don’t stay in the same house, sir” I reminded sternly, never reacting to his gentle assault. “Then let’s make a home” He blurted, tossing my hair behind my ear. Our eyes were level as we both stared into each other’s eyes in silence. He held my jaw, framing my face, “I really want you, Kiara, I’m not joking” He said, looking serious. I was rendered speechless as I gazed at his handsome face that I have been infatuated with for a long time. Slowly, he held my hand, relaxing it on his broad chest, “I don’t know when it all started Kiara, but believe me, this thing inside my chest now beats strongly for you” He asserted, his eyes were exceptionally attractive like it was full of water, sparkling and deep. At that moment, my heart pounded strongly, as if it could jump out of my chest anytime. “I’ll do anything, absolutely anything, but please don’t say no” He concluded, his gaze flickered to my lips, but he promptly took his eyes away, and for some reason, I felt sad. He gently collected his briefcase from me then said, “I’ll head home first, take care of yourself” And with that, I watched his back view disappearing out the door. Okay, am I dreaming now? I pinched my cheek several times to ensure if truly I am not, but it was real, I was not dreaming!
The taxi squealed and halted right in front of my apartment. With tremendous joy bubbling inside my chest, I handed some cash to the driver, then got down from the cab. It was really a great day, a memorable day of my life. He loves me back, Alexander truly loves me back. I practically ran into the house, a smile not evaporating from my face. After I climbed the small staircase, I caught a glimpse of an envelope lying on my doorstep. My brows creased while I glanced around the premises, I squatted then picked the brown envelope. What’s this? I opened it then dug my hand into it, I brought out the content in it and my eyes popped up in surprise. “What?” They were hard copy pictures of Nicholas and a young lady, who was dressed as a bride. They both had their best smile on their faces in the picture, I gulped down nothing as I checked the other pictures. No, I can’t believe this.
I retrieved my cellphone from my bag and placed a call through him, it got disconnected at once, but I tried it again, the same result. My heart wasn’t as calm as it seemed, I wiped the balls of sweat that had already formed on my forehead as I made my way out of the house. However, on getting outside, I recalled that I don’t know where Nicholas stays. I bite down my lower lip, trying my best to conceal my anger. Nicholas had promised me times without a number that he would bring me to his house someday, but now… I stomped on my feet, trying his number again. Suddenly, a car halted in front of me, “Hello miss,” The car owner called out, but I didn’t answer him as I kept dialing Nicholas’s number. I have become inexplicably fretful, “Miss, you need to come with me now” His voice came out apparent this time, I lifted my head to see him standing so close to me, “What do you mean come with you, do I know you? Have you seen my face before? Do I look like who you are searching for?” I shot several questions in a row lividly, walking a distance away.
“It’s about Mr. Alexander, miss” My pace stopped immediately, I abruptly turned around and quickened my steps to where I left him. With my chest heaving up and down, “What happened to Alexander?” I asked him tentatively. He shook his head, “I’m sorry miss, but you will have to come with me and see for yourself” Immediately he completed his words, I felt a wave of current wash over me. Oh my goodness, what has happened to him? “Shall we?” I looked at his face and nodded curtly, feeling bitter and grieved in my heart. He moved forward then opened the passenger door for me to enter, I quickly bent my body and got in. He veered around and got behind the wheel, “Please tell me, was it an accident?” I asked him word by word, tears had already blurred my vision. He offered a reassuring smile, “Be rest assured, miss” I swallowed my saliva then nodded twice. And with that, the car roared away.
Some moments later, we were still on the journey. The man kept assuring me, but I wasn’t convinced. Good Lord, please protect Alexander, he needs to know how much I love him too. The vehicle suddenly halted, I tilted my head to look at him then he gestured his head to my left direction, “Go on miss, then you shall be able to uncover everything” I stared at the house, it was a mansion, a beautiful one at that. “I don’t understand Sir, do you mean Alexander is in here?” I asked him lowly. He fell in silence for a moment but nodded his head at the end. Without resistance, I picked my bag on my thigh then came down from the car. “I’ll be waiting for you right here,” The man said, I nodded, then crossed to the other side of the road.
I stood before the gigantic gate in the silent estate, the gate was slightly opened, so I stood there, hesitating if I should knock or go in. But in the end, I pushed it open then went in. I darted my eyes at everywhere corner of the house, but it was dreadfully quiet. I kept on with my slow pace until I arrived at the facade of the building, I gulped down before moving myself forward then pressed the electric doorbell. Furthermore, I waited for a response but didn’t hear anything, I made to press the doorbell again but suddenly heard a woman’s voice from inside, “I’m coming!” Soon after I heard that I took a step backward. The door opened, revealing the same lady I saw with Nicholas in the picture earlier, “Is that you, Nicholas…” Her voice trailed off, obviously, she was only expecting to see Nicholas. My heart burnt as the bitterness in my heart intensified as if I had gulped down a cup of broadleaf holly leaf tea. We both stared at each other, she even let her eyes scrutinize me from bottom to up, “Who are you?” She eventually asked, sounding so blunt. ‘I’m your husband’s girlfriend’ I replied inwardly but put on a simple smile, “Good day ma’am, Mr. Nicholas had sent me here to deliver news,” I said smoothly like I’d practiced those words in my head before. A wide smile arose on her lips as soon as I finished my words, “Oh, come on in, miss” She beamed, opening the door wider and paving the way for me to enter.
