The music filtered in from somewhere in the pack, making Ava twitch. She wasn’t sure who had played it, but it sounded like it was from the lower humans, and not the wolves. The wolves didn’t make such horrible music. They were great at everything they did.
“Open the door,” A lady who sounded just like Lily requested from the outside.
Ava got up from the bed, and walked to the door, pulling it open. Lily stood there looking angelic in blue, as her eyes went wide, looking everywhere but Ava’s.
“What can I do for you?” Ava queried.
“Leave,” She said simply.
“What?” Ava queried, baffled.
Lily finally looked at her, her eyes a little bit cold. She pushed Ava into the room, her eyes scanning everywhere like she wanted to be sure of something. Ava had no idea what that was. Lily had always looked strange, and she knew the lady didn’t like her one. But, why was she here? It made no sense.
“Listen, say in clear terms what you need,” Ava tried once more.
No response! Lily went to the vanity, and grabbed an empty cardboard box, and a pink lipstick. She shredded the card box into two, then moved quickly towards Ava, forcing them into her hands.
“We don’t have much time, you need to leave. Write that you’re craving your freedom or something. I don’t give a fuck what you write, all I care is that you need to leave this place now,” Lily said firmly.
Ava felt all her winds had been kicked out of her, she stared at Lily stunned. The words the other woman had said were ringing in her head repeatedly. It could be her chance of escape, but what if this was a plan to humiliate her? Lily didn’t like her, yes. But, she was not sure she would go against her Alpha, no matter what the dynamics in their relationship were.
She grabbed Lily’s right hand, and placed the items back into them. Staring at the woman in the eyes, she said, “I’m not leaving.”
Lily looked at her stunned. Ava swallowed hard. Common sense was telling her to seize the opportunity and find her way out of this house, but she could not. And, this wasn’t because of Ivanka.
“Why? Why the fuck are you not leaving? You don’t even like it here,” Lily shot out in disbelief.
Ava took a deep breath, watching as the lady kept looking at the door to be sure that none was coming through. She couldn’t blame her for the reactions. She was also feeling jittery. She couldn’t tell her the real reason. She didn’t like it here, yes, but still Alpha Jax was her mate, and she couldn’t just leave.
“What are you thinking about? Answer me, damn it! Why don’t you leave? You can easily have a good life. I will make sure my brother, the Alpha, never gets a whiff of this. Everything has been finalized, all you need to do is get lost, and not come back,” Lily snapped furiously.
Ava retreated her steps away from her. “Someone is coming, and I’m not leaving.” She said with such finality that made Lily gasp.
Lily flung the items on the floor, and it made a crackling sound causing Ava to close her eyes a bit. She bit her lips to stop herself from showing how hurt she felt.
“I was actually feeling guilty that my brother bought you for a couple of dollars, to turn you into a sex-slave, but now, I think you deserve it. You have zero self-esteem. You can’t help a whore no matter how we try. You’re just cheap…”
“Enough!” Ava thundered.
Lily sneakered in response,”Enough? You haven’t seen anything yet. You’re just a stupid bitch.” With that, she walked out of the room.
Ava kicked the door post in rage, flinging the pillows, and cursing fluidly. “Ah!” She screamed sadly. Why couldn’t she have respect like other people? All her life, people had used her like she was a human being, but a tool. Her father, her family, and now these strangers.
“Are you ok?” Benjamin asked in confusion.
Ava turned to Benjamin, with tear-stained eyes, which made him more shocked. “I’m fine,” She said simply, walking over to the dresser to grab a tissue from its stand.
There was a slight sound, then Benjamin touched her arm softly. “I know that I messed up when I came in here earlier. But, I didn’t mean any of that. It’s just that I easily get into my feelings. You can tell me what’s wrong,” He said softly.
Ava tried to smile, but it didn’t come out quite right. “It’s nothing. I’m just in my feelings,” She said offhandedly.
She dabbed her cheeks with the tissue paper, and tossed it to the trash can, then turned away from Benjamin, sitting down in her seat. She paused her lips, and placed a hand on her thigh.
Benjamin looked at her coyly. “You are sitting down just like I was when I came here earlier. You’re actually learning really fast,”he teased.
Ava tried hard not to glare at the man. His attempt to lighten the atmosphere was seriously in poor taste. “I take it you are here to prepare me for tonight,” She said easily, ignoring his pointed remark.
Benjamin smacked his lips together. “Well, yes. The Alpha informed me that you’d be moving in and around naked with just an orange piece covering your nipple, and woman areas,” He said with a cringe.
Ava nodded stiffly. The man had meant it. Hopefully, he would be able to take it when other wolves reacted like animals when she stepped out unclad.
“No Protest?” Benjamin queried, stunned.
She smiled then, and said in a quiet upbeat voice. “None! I’m sure that makes your job a bit bearable.” She shaded him lightly.
Benjamin looked away from her, smoothing the invincible wrinkles on his outfit. “It really doesn’t,” He muttered under his breath. In a heartbeat, he turned over to her, avoiding her piercing gaze. “Let’s get you ready,” He said softly.
