CHAPTER 56: A LIAR & A DECEIVER.
Johnson was able to convince Evelyn to sit with them at the table though she rejected every other thing that was served to her.
“So, how are things going for you?” Johnson asked her to start up a discussion.
“Surprisingly good, thank you,” Evelyn replied shortly.
“Just remember that anytime you need my help, I am here for you, okay?” Johnson placed his palms on hers but she slid them away from him, placing her hand on her lap. Johnson folded his palms nevertheless he continued eating.
Evelyn had been sitting down for about ten minutes and was starting to get uncomfortable. Why was no one talking? Why was she here in the first place?
“Mr. Johnson.” She called him and his spoon hit the tip of his plate heavily as he exchanged swift looks with Jessica and looked at his daughter.
“What exactly am I doing here? I can’t supposedly be here to take care of you when you have a bunch of maids to do that for you, right? So why did you invite me because I have no reason to be a part of this family anymore.” Evelyn questioned them.
“Exactly my point! She has no reason to be here, I just don’t get it. She is unwanted and not a part of this family again so why should she be treated as if this piece of rag is worth it?” Ruby burst out furiously while holding her fork tightly.
Jessica’s eyes widened and she hit her daughter under the table with her legs.
“What, mom?” Ruby glared. She had no idea what was going on that much but the sight of Evelyn in this house irritated her completely.
“Is that how I have trained you to speak? She is your sister.” She cautioned her but Ruby snorted and poked a piece of her chicken with the fork before putting it into her mouth.
“Evelyn dear, I apologize on behalf of your sister but I need you to understand that what we have done to you a few years ago was a result of love. Your father remains your father no matter what he says, you should know that all parents tend to say things out of hand when they are angry but don’t mean them.”
“Just quit talking, drama queen. You and I both know what the truth exactly is. You ruined my happy childhood and family and here you are giving me useless advice. Why can’t Mr. Johnson behave the same to your daughter? You knew about the filthy activities that your daughter got herself into instead of reprimanding her, you let her rotten to the point of no fixing and now you are lecturing me about how to live my life? It would be better if you just keep quiet.” Evelyn spoke while watching them, her face was composed and her glance was cold.
Ruby dropped the fork on the table harshly and touched her cheek with her tongue inwardly. Her palms were coupled together as she was prepared to invoke her wrath while blatantly ignoring the body language of her mother.
“You know what? Stop playing the victim card, Evie, it is worthless. Don’t you dare think that just because you have been begged to come over that you can behave like the greatest! This is my father’s house and no stranger is allowed in here…”
“Your dummy brain that you inherited from your mother seems to fail in telling you that this house belongs to my MOTHER and not yours…not even Mr. Johnson so why are you laying claim?” Evelyn glowered.
“Evelyn…” Jessica was hurt by the insult.
“You know what? Just sign the dumb contract, transfer the properties and leave, simple! You have no reason to be here. The door is wide open for you to walk through.” Ruby spits out and her mother covers her mouth in awe.
Evelyn’s face was ashen while Johnson bits his lips, his body was trembling as he had been containing enough of the anger within.
“The both of you should shut up!” He yelled at them. Ruby realized her mistake and calmed herself down.
“What does she mean by transferring properties?” Evelyn asked her father with confusion.
“Don’t mind her, Evi…”
“I was talking to him, not you!” She screamed at Jessica.
“What property is she talking about?” She asked him again.
Johnson looked at Evelyn coldly before resting on his chair with his hands folded, “I need you to sign a few documents for me before you leave and it’s important.” He responded.
Evelyn scoffed. How foolish of her to think that something magnificent was going to happen!
“Wow, you tricked me to come here because of your greediness. Don’t you feel ashamed of yourself? How could you have done this to me?” Evelyn asked in a rush of anger.
“I am your daughter, why are you being so inhumane? How can you be this selfish? What the f*ck are you thinking? You are nothing but a monster, Mr. Johnson and I promise that I will retrieve what belongs to my mother because you are nothing but a thief, a betrayal, and a liar. Excuse me!” She stood up.
“You might want to reconsider leaving.” Johnson tried to threaten her.
“You should reconsider your stupid thoughts because I always tell others where I am heading to. This will be the last time I will ever see you even if you happen to die and be buried.” Evelyn threw them a dirty look before leaving the house.
There was silence at the dining table. Ruby fumbled with her fork and bit her lips. She looked at her mother repeatedly before facing her father.
“Dad…”
“Shut up, you bastard!” Johnson shut her up and she shrieked. Jessica was shocked at her husband’s outburst.
“Can’t you for once do something tangible in your life? You had to ruin just one perfect piece for me, how useless do you want to be? I have always been overlooking your behaviors because you are my daughter but it seems your brain keeps going haywire.” Johnson insulted her. He stood up, pushed the chair, and looked daggers at both the mother and daughter before leaving.
Ruby’s pupils started going sideways as she blinked many times in a nervous state.

Raphael decided to visit Evelyn later that evening as he was less busy…well, that was what he believed in, he had to give the work to Jeremy to handle before coming over. For the past few days, he had been feeling extremely happy and wouldn’t hesitate to showcase his love to his girlfriend and son. As this was a new term for him, he was learning how good he could be as he saw them as his responsibility that deserved his love and attention no matter how short they just started.
Evelyn was opening up to him and learning to love him. Her simplicity made things quite easy for Raphael and he promised himself not to let go of her. He was going to try his best in understanding her.
After playing a few games with Tom, they settled down for dinner. Raphael took a bite from his meal before feeding Tom. Evelyn would grin from ear to ear as she watched their interaction and then she remembered something.
“Raphael, I need to talk with you about an issue.” She started. Raphael glanced at her and nodded.
“I want to resign from the company.” She announced and Raphael, who was about to put another spoon into Tom’s mouth, paused, leaving the cutie pie’s mouth hung open. His eyes widened and only got back to their normality when Tom stretched his neck to eat the meal from the spoon.
Raphael ruffled his hair and locked eyes with Evelyn as he was confused.
“But why? Am I not treating you well enough? Do you need me to increase your salary? Am I a distraction?”
“No, well…yes, the last part. You are a distraction but that isn’t the main reason. Why you accepted me as your assistant was because you wanted to get closer to me and now that everything is solved between us, I don’t want others to know much, especially for Tom and you are yet to…you know…I just don’t know how to explain this to you but working under you seems like I am living off you so I want to start my work independently.” She explained.
Raphael blanked out for a moment before sighing. He understood her terms and he wasn’t going to argue with her on that.
“So what are you volunteering into?” He asked.
“Cake making.” She responded.
“You can bake?” He asked but didn’t wait for her to respond…
“Can your mum bake?” He asked Tom.
The Cutie pie responded with his mouth full, “She is a terrific Baker.”
“That’s enough, don’t answer with your mouth full.” Evelyn cautioned.
“What are your plans?” Raphael asked her.
“I don’t know what to do now but I will rent a store…”
“Let me help you, I will provide everything you need by tomorrow.”
“No, you don’t…”
“Please, Evie. Take it as a gift from me for all these years.” He placed his hand on her palm and stroked it. Evie bit her lips and melted under his gaze, she nodded and continued eating. Raphael smiled happily and they enjoyed the rest of their meal. Evelyn looked at him again as if wanting to tell him something but decided against it.
