CHAPTER 42: FLOWERS.
Evelyn stretched her body on her chair and glanced at her phone to know what the time was. Knowing very well that Kira was going to pick Tom up on her behalf, she wasn’t in a rush but then, she thought about the trip she would be going on. Wouldn’t this be too much for Kira to handle? Taking care of Tom was too tiring even for her and she just didn’t want her to misunderstand her intentions or burden her but looking at the way if was, she was out of options.
She started packing up, putting her things into her bag. Other workers were already closing for the day too, only a few were around. As soon as she was done, Savage called out to her.
“Hold on, Evelyn, let’s leave together.” She said to her.
“Oh, that is no problem,” Evelyn responded and sat on the edge of her desk while pressing her phone. Raphael’s message dropped in, asking if she had left the office already and she replied instantly that she was about to. Raphael had exited the company a few hours ago for something important and she believed that he must have headed home thereafter.
Savage used her hand in removing the dirt on her lap as she stood up. She approached Evelyn and nudged her.
“Let’s leave.” Evelyn smiled and put her phone back into her bag and the two women walked away.
Savage was the friendly type even though she could be outspoken most times and ‘abnormally’ straightforward with her words. She gave the vibe of a female Alpha and would have passed well if she were to be a street gangster or fighter.
“Have you ever thought about being a fighter? Or maybe a boxer or wrestler? Anything about that?” Evelyn asked curiously. Savage’s eyes met with hers and she smirked.
“Why did you ask?”
“I just couldn’t stop myself. You exhibit the vibe of a female Alpha, even from your looks to the way you speak most times, according to what others have said about you.” Evelyn replied honestly. They both stepped out of the elevator, their heels clicking against the hard surface as they walked closer to the entrance.
“Well, that is true. I wanted to be a female wrestler and I even trained multiple times for it when I was in high school. I won different medals for my school and I had it in mind to pursue this newly found talent of mine.” She spoke with a sweet smile as the feeling of nostalgia swept past her heart.
“So what changed?”
“My parents. They were never in support of it, I tried to make them reason but it only added insult to injury. My dad developed a stroke from the argument and it was by mistake, I pushed him and he just…he went down and since then, I did what they asked me to.” Savage responded. Evelyn sighed.
“Hmm, but please, don’t deny your happiness just because you owe your parents in terms of your dad’s injury. They have lived their lives and they will one day leave you so…it depends on your opinion though.”
As they were talking, Vegas, who was leaning against his car, sighted Evelyn and a lady that he supposed was her co-worker. He waved at her and she caught sight of his dancing hand, Savage also looked in that direction and was surprised to see Vegas holding a bouquet.
“What is he doing?” Savage asked.
“I have no idea.”
“Are you sure that he is waving at us or…” Savage looked back but there was no one to whom the wave was addressed other than them.
“Miss Evelyn,” Vegas called and quickly approached her.
“Uh…Mister Vegas.” Evelyn replied, still not getting a hang of what was about to go down. Savage cleared her throat.
“Good evening, Mr. Vegas.”
“Evening, lady.”
“I will see you tomorrow then, Evie. Goodnight.” Savage walked away rapidly.
Evelyn took a quick view at the surroundings, many people’s eyes were on them but Vegas seemed not to care. Instead, he was smiling brightly and this somehow made Evelyn awkward.
“Mr. Vegas, if there is nothing much to say then I’d be on my way to fetch my SON.” She placed pressure on the last word and took a step but Vegas blocked her path.
“I understand but I want you to have this.”
“I don’t need a bouquet.” Evelyn denied the gift.
“I know. I saw it when I was coming so I bought it. The flower seller said flowers make people happy and make them warm at heart and you were the first person that came to my mind. I wish you to always be happy.” He pushed the bouquet into her chest, which Evelyn considered embarrassing and rude, she grabbed the flowers before they landed on the floor with an iota of shock and disbelief that Vegas misinterpreted as her being stunned by his kindness.
“See you tomorrow, Miss Evelyn.” With his arrogance at his supposed achievement, he walked away.
Evelyn scratched her forehead, she was totally lost and the vibe exuding from him was terrible for her. Nevertheless, she continued walking and finally got out of the company. She boarded the next cab that she saw, ignoring the questioning gazes of others at her. She sighed and slammed her forehead gently against the driver’s seat. Now, she was going to become the subject of the topic starting tomorrow.

“Tom, get the door, please,” Kira shouted from inside her room.
“Yes, godmother.” Tom jumped up full of energy to answer the door. On seeing his mother, he fell into her embrace and received a kiss from Evelyn.
“Mommy.”
“How are you? Where is Kira?” Evelyn asked.
“In my room,” Kira replied and Evelyn went there, holding the flower.
“Wow, your room is a mess,” Evelyn commented.
“Tell me about it,” Kira said and rolled her eyes. Her clothes were stained with paint and even the floor but she had no problem with that because it was tiled therefore it would be easier to clean.
“Your work is fantastic.” Evelyn praised it.
“I know, right? Thank you very much. I am trying to look for a bigger apartment so I will be able to do all my work in a section. Are the flowers for me?” Kira asked after she noticed what was in her hands. Evelyn shook her head and sat on Kira’s bed.
“You would not believe me if I told you who gave it to me.”
“Try my faith, darling.” Kira responded and blew air at her painting.
“Raphael’s elder brother, Vegas.”
“Shoot!” Kira’s eyes almost popped out.
“Did he give you ‘for the sake of giving’ or there is actually a motive behind it?”
“How am I supposed to know? I just don’t want to get things messed up. I don’t like his presence and I don’t want him getting close to him as it could create a big misunderstanding at work.”
“Then tell Raphael.” Kira proposed her idea.
“I just can’t go and tell him. It doesn’t make sense since he is yet to ask me out, I can solve this within my power by staying away from him after giving him a warning.”
“That’s also good.” Kira supported her and turned on the portable fan in her hand to blow on the paint so it could dry off.
“That aside, I need your help, Kira. Raphael and I will be going on a short trip to attend an auction. I refused to but I had no choice so I need Tom to stay here with you for a few days if you won’t mind. Maybe a day or two, please.” Evelyn pleaded with her with puffy eyes. Kira rolled her eyes again and muttered how unfortunate this situation was under her breath.
“If you can do this, I promise to fulfill one of your wishes, please.” Evelyn placed out a tempting offer and Kira smiled.
“Of course, I will. It’s a deal but you shouldn’t spend more than three days because if you do, you might find your son living in your house alone.” Kira agreed easily. Evelyn blew her a kiss happily.
“Thank you.”
“You are welcome. Just remember that it’s your time, have fun, and don’t give a damn. That’s the simple rule. I hope you won’t forget this.”
“I will try not to. So how are things going over at your side?”
Kira went ahead to explain what had transpired between her and Richard the other day without letting a detail be amiss.
“Seriously? That’s a huge misunderstanding though. The two of you are right in your ways, it is just that, you eagerly said yours without waiting for his side. It didn’t mean you were wrong, you were right when you said that and his defense was also right. Since he is a stranger and someone you wouldn’t want to mingle with, don’t you think that this is the perfect time to let him go?”
“Hmm?” Kira furrowed her eyebrows.
“I mean since you are not pleased seeing him not to talk of accommodating him then just forget about him and count yourselves, total strangers, to each other. Do you get what I mean?”
“Of course, I do but it ain’t gonna be easy because he didn’t seem happy about what I said. It was like I had touched a soft spot of his and you know I won’t feel easy when such a thing happens.”
“So what are you going to do now?”
“I will wait till the day he is ready to talk.”
“And how long will that take?”
“Maybe a day or two…maybe [ cries out] I don’t know how long. Goodness, he is wearing me out intentionally, that I am sure of!” She saw the mischievous smile on Evelyn’s face and she frowned.
“Don’t you dare! Don’t you…”
Evelyn bursts out laughing uncontrollably and Kira throws a tiny brush at her but she dodges it. The race started in the house as Evelyn had Kira chase after her like they were kids with the only kid watching and frowning at their behavior like an adult should.
