CONFUSED.
It has been a few days since Evelyn has been working under Raphael. She felt so happy and relaxed at work, she felt no pressure and made a few colleagues. She got introduced to what was going on around the company and it was fun.
Even Jeremy wasn’t left out, he was super nice and her boss, she didn’t have a perfect description for him at all because he was all bossy and only kept things professional. He was very strict too, no one was excluded from his wrath or displeasure.
There was a time when she made a mistake in the calculations, she almost got buried under the ground.
“What the hell is this, Miss Evelyn?” Raphael barked at her and her heart skipped a bit.
“How…what do you mean, Mr. Raphael?” She stuttered.
“What kind of mistake is this, huh? You made a mistake in the calculations. Do you know how dangerous this is especially for me? You don’t, do you? Well, let me tell you in case you don’t know. If I was to take this to the Chairman and he gave it to the board for the last look then they happen to find out about this mistake, I will be questioned and the penalty won’t be good for both of us so please, I know that this is your first time but make sure you don’t rush when you come to the aspect of calculations, have I made myself clear?” He asked.
“Yes, Mr. Raphael. I apologize.” Evelyn replied.
________
“It was a very scary moment for me,” Evelyn said to her two colleagues and sipped her drink.
Rita and Robmos were the new friends she made at work. They were friendly and claimed to have been friends from high school. Their story was quite interesting and funny to listen to, even though they were more of the cat and rat type, they still hung onto each other.
Rita was a girl while Robmos was a guy and they both studied the same thing.
“You sure are lucky, baby girl. The punishment I got for my first mistake was very worst.” Robmos replied as he took a bite from his chicken wings in the Cafeteria.
“Was it about this calculation?” Evelyn asked.
“Yeah. I made a mistake just like yours but guess what the punishment was? I had to work tons of mathematical equations within a given time and without any mistakes, I was told that it was a test and that it would help me in preventing such a mistake like that in the future. I just did not want to burst my ego by crying and rolling on the ground.”
Evelyn remembered when she had given Tom that same punishment. It seems only 45% of the world understands and loves mathematics. Nobody wants to go through the stress.
“That time was actually funny. He looked like he was about to drown.” Rite said and burst out laughing. Robmos glared at her and afterward, rolled his eyes. It was at this moment he knew that he had f*cked up!
“But does he behave like that often?” Evelyn couldn’t help asking.
“For me, very much yes. He is too strict and maybe wicked.” Robmos answered. Evelyn nodded and ate her chicken legs as she thought about the issue.
He didn’t seem like he was the bad type though.
“You heard about the rumor that occurred three years ago about him, right?” Rita asked.
“What rumor?” Evelyn questioned again.
“A rumor about him getting duped by the lady that he was in love with. It spread like wildfire that year, it was impossible to find this girl according to what I heard. Do you know why?” Evelyn shook her head.
“The reason was that she was a real disguiser that no one knew her real face so right now, she might just be anywhere close or far but it broke the boss because he turned crazy that time,” Rita explained.
“Wow. That is terrific.” Evelyn commented.
“I know, right?” Rita agreed with her mouth full.
“And also, that is why, according to what I have heard, he rejected being with other women or even giving them a chance. If not because of the dating issue, I would have thought that he was either aromatic or not interested in women.” Robmos gave his idea.
Evelyn ran into some deep thoughts. No wonder he looked so distant and was such a workaholic. But she just couldn’t stop getting that feeling that she had been with him or had even seen him before.
“Anyway, he is quite handsome, don’t you agree Evelyn?” Rita praised with a dreamy look. Evelyn, in return, chuckled effortlessly and ate a sausage.
Robmos hits Rita’s head gently and the latter yelps and glares at him.
“Stop thinking about other men like that.”
“I only appreciated his beauty.”
“Humph!” Robmos snorted and took another spoon of his meal.
Undeniably, he was handsome and decent enough in Evelyn’s eyes but for her, they were like two poles apart. Now that her mind had drifted to that, was there ever going to be any chance of her getting married or finding a good man that was worth her and her low-key status?
_______________
Later in the evening, in Raphael’s penthouse, he was standing in front of the swimming pool in the evening with a drink in his hand. It was late in the evening and the full moon had already come out, brightening the Earth and the dark clouds beneath it.
The breeze was soft and slowly caressed his skin as he drank the remaining bit of his drink.
This was a secret penthouse that he bought many days after that incident. He felt the need to back then as he realized the mistakes he made in terms of being with that woman he thought that he was in love with.
While thinking, someone came from behind him and then made his appearance appropriately in front of him.
“Hey, buddy.” Dan hits his shoulder and proceeds to give him a peck but gets pushed away by Raphael before walking away to the provided chairs opposite each other by the poolside to sit.
Okay, when it was said that the penthouse was secret, he meant that it was hidden from his family because he wished not to tell them.
“Come on, Ralph. Will you at least stop treating me as if I am sort of a stranger to you?” Dan whined and sat opposite him.
He opened the bottle of champagne and poured himself a drink before sipping it. He relished the taste.
“Hmm, one of its kind.” He responded
“Where is it?” Raphael asked and Dan brought out a brown envelope.
“I gathered all the information here but it wasn’t easy to find, Ralph and I might not be right about some points there because of the inaccuracy and how much Evelyn Rosé tries to keep her life low-key,” Dan answered.
“Can you elaborate more?” Raphael asked as he opened the envelope and started cross-checking everything in it.
“You see, Evelyn Rosé happens to be the second first daughter of the Hezekiah family and that is where things get all interesting. The name ROSÉ isn’t her last name, it is her mother’s name. Her mother’s name was Hezekiah Rosé…”
“Was?”
“Yeah, she is dead now. The cause of her death is unknown. I tried digging that up but I suspect her family, back to the main theme. She happened to have left this Country about three years ago and came back recently. She keeps a low profile on every social media and doesn’t have a good relationship with her family.”
“I see.” Raphael nodded and then the picture of a little boy came into his view, he took it up to see and was amazed. He knew this boy before, he had seen him at the Primus International Kids a few days back and even bought him ice cream.
Dan saw him staring intently at the picture.
“And the boy?” Raphael asked nervously.
“Oh, yeah, about that, even though your assistant seems innocent and claimed to be single, she is a single mother. A mother of one boy and that is the boy, Tommy Rosé, a three-year-old dude. Why are you staring at the picture that way? Do you perhaps know him?”
“Yeah, I met him at PIKs School a few days ago and even bought him Ice cream. How ironic the situation.”
“And you were not able to see his mother?”
“No.”
“Wow, but why did you want me to research her?”
Raphael sighed and hit the envelope on the table before rubbing his entire head. Then he put his hands around his neck and pulled himself a bit.
“If I tell you, you won’t believe me.”
“Try me.” Dan lifted the glass of champagne to his lips and drank it, a little was stored in his mouth.
“She is actually the woman I have been looking for for the past three years.”
Dan who still wanted to enjoy the taste on his tongue coughed it out and looked at his friend speechlessly.
“You are joking, right?”
Raphael stood up eagerly and anxiously and walked a bit away from the seats. He put his two hands into his pockets and looked around the swimming pool area.
“That’s the issue, I am not joking at all, not now that I wasn’t expecting a child in between.” He said and ruffled his hair.
Dan looked at him as if his friend was somehow crazy. He then got the whole concept. He quickly picked up the picture and stood up, he moved closer to his friend and looked at his face and then at the boy in the picture. Raphael looked at him before looking away.
“Oh no, oh no, I hope it isn’t what I am thinking.”
“It is what you are thinking. She is the woman that I am looking for and he is my son!” Raphael admitted.
“What the f*cking hell, dude?!” Dan half yelled at him in surprise and confusion.
