“How are you feeling man?” Aiden came inside Dimitri’s room and passed him a bottle of water then looked around his room that has some of his clothes scattered around then some books and papers.
At least, it’s better than the empty and broken bottles. He thought.
“I don’t know if I should feel anymore” he replied then stopped writing whatever he was writing and drank from the bottle “What’s up with you too man, anything new come up yet?” he asked.
“Not really, it’s just that I like this girl but she likes me as a friend only… we’ve been friends for a while now though but I tried asking her out but she turned me down and said she just wanted to be friends… nothing too much” he shrugged and Dimitri laughed.
“I tell you man, it’s a trap. They all start that way so that we chase them and when we chase them, they get us on our toes and get us to love them more than we love looking at ourselves in the mirror then they crush you, break you and leave you miserable as you swear off women and love for the rest of your life” he banged the bottle on the table in front of him and groaned.
“Guess you haven’t gotten over that yet” Aiden pointed and looked at Dimitri who was staring at the ceiling trying to conceal his pain and probably not cry.
“Who would?” he asked. “It’s been months but it still feels like it happened yesterday, I am a mess brother, I am a big mess”
“No, you aren’t, you just can’t get over what happened and move on from it. Nothing is wrong with you”
“That is why I feel ‘no commitment’ should be our leggo” he shook his head then looked at Aiden “No one to think about hurting, no strings attached, no girl to worry about if she’s cheating or not, no nothing” he chuckled and stood to his feet then went to his bed to seat there.
Aiden sighed and stood up to try clean his room at least.
“I wish my brother was here” he said and lay back on his bed. “He might understand at least” he cried.
“You shouldn’t use a single bad egg to judge the rest of the eggs on the crate, sure there would be bad ones but what about the good ones waiting to meet with you?” he asked.
“I don’t really care, my heart doesn’t care for any”
“You’ve been getting some?”
“Soon buddy” he replied.
“Don’t try it”
“Whatever”
“The right girl will come when it’s time” Aiden consoles and Dimitri scoffed.
They stayed silent for a moment, not saying anything, just them thinking about different things and in different situations.
“Sofia knows her” Aiden spoke after a while and Dimitri laughed out loud.
“She’ll be crazy, I promise” he bets.
“She isn’t” Aiden defends.
“Give it time, you’ll be agreeing with me” he laughed.
“You will realize how wrong you are soon enough” Aiden told him and he chuckled.
“We’ll see about that”
“Yes, we will” Aiden smiled and threw a piece of clothing on his face and he took it off then sat down to look at him.
“Thank you, Aiden,” he smiled “You are a true friend” he said and he nods.
“Just don’t do stupid things that get your mum crying and worrying or your dad talking and thinking of sending you to rehab” he pushed his shoulder lightly.
“I will reconsider that for mum’s sake” he said and Aiden pats his head then ruffle it and walked away from him.
“Good boy” he sat on the sofa and chuckled when he heard Dimitri mutter ‘Fool’.
…
…A year later…
“Hey Myra, here” Cade stretched out a bracelet he saw on his bed to her and she looked at him then to the bracelet and back at him.
“You’re giving me?” she asked and he nods with a small furrow on his brows.
“More like returning it” he said and a frown made itself know to her face “I think it belongs to you” he said and she shook her head.
“What if it’s yours?” she asked and went back to washing her dad’s car.
“I don’t remember having anything li-”
“Just take it will you?” she interrupted him and looked at him with disbelief and a hint of anger “Don’t you get it? Don’t you” she asked looking frustrated while he looked taken aback by her outburst and was confused by her behavior.
Then he wondered if it was wrong of him to return back to her what he thinks might be hers. ‘Maybe it’s Lucas’ he thought and let his hand fall to his side.
“I really can’t say why you are upset about this but it’s fine, I will give it to Lucas, maybe it’s his” he said and began walking away when she spoke.
“Really? You didn’t get the scope of all these?” she asked then shook her head as a small chuckle erupts from her lips “Don’t you see what I have been trying to show you Cadet? Are you that blind? I like you a lot and you missed all the hints I dropped” she laughed then dropped the foam and rested her back on the wet car.
“Myra look, I… we… it can’t happen” he said to her and she leaned away from the car to stand in front of him.
“What do you mean by that Cadet? What? For the past year, I have been trying to let you see… no, let you know that I really like you and that I am not buying all these we are related family shit mum and dad say all the time” she said and he frowned.
“We aren’t related, we took you in when you were injured a year ago and you woke up not knowing who you are so we took you as our own and treated you like family but, we aren’t blood related, if that’s bothering you. We can still do this and it will be fine” she moved a step closer which he took one back.
“Myra… I can’t with you, I can’t” he sighed then looked up at the sky then turned away from her with his face buried in his palm “We can Myra, we just can’t and its not because of what you are thinking” he told her and heard her chuckle.
He didn’t know what else to say to her that wouldn’t hurt her feelings. He had noticed how she had tried so hard for him to notice her and to be closer to him when she gets the chance to but he couldn’t. he couldn’t deny the attraction he grew for her over the year but something in him tells him that it was wrong.
And it doesn’t sound like her dad’s firm voice as he told him that he noticed his daughter’s interest in him and that he shouldn’t think of making a move on her. He should treat her more like his sister and nothing more. That wasn’t the voice telling him that he and she was a bad idea, he just can’t explain what it was but he feels that it’s a bad idea.
“Nothing can happen between us” he said still not facing her.
“Did my dad threaten you?” she asked and he stood straight before turning to face her but was caught off guard when she wrapped her arms around his neck, went on her tiptoe and placed her lips on his.
His had was held out and he froze at the position that they were in, he couldn’t understand why he froze when she came this close and even as she moved her lips against his still ones. After almost a minute of standing like that, he placed his hands on her waist then slowly pushed her away from himself but that that wasn’t working as she wrapped her legs around his hips.
He didn’t want to disappoint her dad neither did he want to disappoint her so he kissed her back and she slowly released her hold on him then he was able to pin her on the car and untangle her from his body. He held her shoulders still pining her on the car and moved his body far from her reach.
Myra tried to get closer but he moved his face away and shook his head. “Myra, please” he pleaded and she shook her head as tears gathered in her eyes.
“No, don’t tell me you felt nothing… you… you kissed me back, it’s definitely something Cadet, it is something” she cried and he released her then walked a few steps away from her in case she tries to latch herself to him again.
She went on her knees as she cried and the skies rumbled then it started getting dark and he knew it was going to fall pretty heavy, so he put back all the carpets and whatever she brought out of the car then closed the doors and locked it with keys, put them in his pocket and crouched in front of her crying form.
“It’s going to rain and it will be heavy” he said but she didn’t answer him and he let out a sigh then stood up and took her by the arm, pulled her up and walked themselves inside the house. “Your parents should be inside, go wear something cozy” he said to her and she walked away.
He let out a sigh and sat on the sofa then looked at the closed window as the wind was blowing a bit violently but he was glad that everyone was inside before it started getting crazy.
They’ve had bad weather in the past year so they are slowly getting accustomed to the weather.
“Anything yet?” Dean asked when he sat beside Cade and handed him a small cup of coffee. A question he had been asking him most of the time, he wanted to know who really, he was.
The Devanto’s don’t use any form of technology or devices so they are off knowing what is happening in the world right now. Julius also warned that they stood clear of them for the mean time. There’s only a small phone Dean use whenever Julius contacts him.
“Nope, I feel like I should have at least gotten some… you know, anything about me” he said to him and shook his head but there’s nothing coming to me, no matter how hard I try”
“Its fine Cade, just don’t try to force it, it will come by soon enough” Dean said and pats his shoulder “I saw you and Myra” he said and Cade tensed then looked at him and was going to say something but he stopped him “I see that she really likes you and I am just scared of her getting hurt” he said.
“I have no intentions on hurting your daughter sir, I told her… tried to make it clear to her but she… she’s not having it” he explained.
“I see” he nods then stood up and stayed in front of Cade as he looked down at him “I have never seen Myra go that crazy about a guy before, she’s still so young and having her first heartbreak by a man who has no plans of giving her the love she needs is what I am not looking forward to so if you’re going to be around her just make sure that you aren’t alone to avoid what happened earlier” he said.
“Yes sir” he nods. “Although I feel like I have met someone with her kind of hair color and eyes, but when I look at her, I can’t seem to get who that person is” he said and Dean took him by the shirt and pulled him to his feet with a hard glare directly on his face.
“You are not about to use my daughter for some of your fantasies or an experiment now boy”
“Like I said, I have no intentions of hurting your daughter or having anything to do with her so you have nothing to worry about” he raised his hand up and Dean looked at him for some seconds before letting him go and leaving him in the living room.
He sat on the sofa and sighed then ran his fingers through his hair “Who am I and what am I doing here for CHRIST sake?” he asked himself and leaned back on chair as he stared at the fan hung on the ceiling, trying to at least recall something… anything.
He closed his eyes and tried to relax himself then he heard a woman’s voice say to him.
“Goodluck okay? Make sure you call me when you arrived okay?” the woman whose face was blurry said to him and he smiled then leaned in for a kiss before pecking her cheeks.
“I’ll wait around for a while before my flight, I still have a few hours before it’s time” he said to her and she poked his chest.
“I know but I have to head to the hospital now, I just want to make sure that you are already at the airport before I go” she told him and he chuckled.
“Thank you, Milady,” he bows and she giggled then they got down and she helped him take his bags out of the trunk, they shared a hug before letting go and looked at each other, he tried to see her face clearly but she turned and walked away.
“Bye for now Cade, talk to you later” she said and he wanted to reach out to her but everywhere went dark and he called out to her.
“Blondie!” he yelled and opened his eyes to see Myra crouching in front of him with a worried expression on her face. He frowned then he looked outside the window to see the rain pouring heavily and the skies darker than it should be.
“Are you fine?” she handed him a glass of water and he nods then looked at her before drinking every ounce of water inside the glass and handing it over to her.
She placed the cup on the small table behind her and took his hand in hers, he tried to draw his hand back but she had a firm hold on his and he didn’t want to pull out and hurt her.
“Did you remember anything? Get any flashes?” she asked and he shook his head then let out another sigh.
“There was this lady… I couldn’t see her face clearly but she had blonde hair and it looked like I know her” he said to her and she frowned a bit.
“You’re dreaming about me?” she teased and he chuckled and released her hold on his hand and she let go this time.
“Not you, she’s a bit taller and her voice sounded different from yours, I just couldn’t see her face because it was blurry. Maybe I know her because she said something about me calling her later but I can’t say if they are flashes since its just a dream” he shrugged.
“Were you trying to get back your memories?”
“I wish I could, I am just… I just want to know who I am at least, you get me?” he asked and she nod and sat beside him.
“Yeah, I do, maybe she’s your sister or…” she paused and looked at him the shook her head. “I am sorry about how I jumped you earlier, I shouldn’t have force myself to you or kissed you without your permission… I understand if you don’t want any relationship between us, I am… I just enjoy your company and I like you a lot…” she looked at her fingers and sighed.
“It’s no problem, I and your dad talked and I enjoy your company too so no hard feelings” he grinned and she rested her head on his shoulder.
“I don’t throw myself to guys… that’s not me” she said and he laughed.
“I have known you for over a year now so, I pretty much know you Myra” he told her and she let out a breath of air then pat his shoulder before standing up to leave.
“Thank you, Cade,” she said and he jolt on his feet as he looked at her, she felt startled and moved a step away from him. “What happened? Did you get anything?” she asked with her brows furrowed.
“What did you just say?” he asked ignoring her question.
“Thank you?” she asked and he shook his head.
“No, like what did you call me? My name?” he asked and she tilt her head as she looked at him like he had some loose screws up there.
“Cadet… your name is Cadet, right?” she asked and he moved back a bit then shook his head and sat on the sofa again. “Are you okay?” she sat beside him and touched his arm.
“Yeah, I am fine… don’t mind me, I just… I am fine” he looked at her and smiled so she nods and stood up then left him in the living room.
“Cade” he whispered.
