Ares.
I walked into my room, slamming the door behind me. The stress of today finally weighed down on my shoulders as I sighed and reached for the buttons on my shirt when my phone vibrated in my pocket.
I snatched it, grumbling at the disturbance after finishing my rounds at the west borders in case we had more intruders after the man I had just killed.
Jax was one sneaky bastard and I couldn’t let my guard down, not even for a second. I picked the call on the second ring after seeing my Beta’s name flash across my screen.
“What is it, Seth?” I growled into the speakers and I heard Seth take a deep breath as if fearing to tell me when he had called to say.
Seth was my most trusted wolf, my right hand man and my childhood friend, he was the only I had ever called friend and I could trust him with my life, with every part of me.
He had stood by me at every moment of my life, loyally serving me and I couldn’t trust anyone at my back except him. He would give his life for me.
“Uhm, Alpha?” He stammered and I could almost feel the fear in his voice, or was that fear from somewhere else?
I looked around my room as I frowned before growling to the phone. “What’s wrong?” I asked again as I heard Seth sigh before speaking again.
“Alpha, someone broke into the house.” Seth declared and I frowned as I could feel the fear in the air. It was definitely not from me and Seth was too far for me to smell his emotions.
Someone was in here. Here in my room.
I glanced around, my eyes briefly passing my bed and my eyes widened as I looked back at a white cloth peeking out from under my bed.
I squinted my eyes as I stepped closer to my bed, noticing the white cloth was dirty, it was a fine line and I knew instantly it wasn’t mine.
I could smell the fear grow stronger, and my eyes narrowed as I couldn’t perceive the scent of the person.
The cloth moved a bit and my eyes widened, taking a step closer with the phone still in my ear as I smirked when I smell of fear intensified.
Good. Be scared. You broke into my home and thought you could hide in the wolf’s den.
“Alpha? Are you listening?” Victor’s voice stopped me and I saw a small hand, tiny and feminine. It was a girl, I realized, and she reached for the cloth, snatching it back under the bed.
I smirked.
I found you already.
“I’ll handle this. Double security.” I said, ending the call and throwing my phone on the bed before I picked the gun on the table just at the foot of my bed.
The intruder wasn’t smart. I thought. Picking the gun and using it as self defense was supposed to be the first thing to do in a place you weren’t welcomed.
I smirked as I threw back my duvet that dangled at the side of the bed and that was even I heard a soft gasp.
Got you.
I didn’t wait for the intruder to think of escaping when I reached under the bed and grabbed a slender wrist and pulled her out from underneath my bed and upwards so she was standing on her feet.
She whimpered and her soft cries filled the room, annoying the hell out of me.
She was in a white dirty and shredded cloth, it looked like she had been running through the woods and her long black hair was filled with leaves and broken tree branches.
They covered her face and I looked down at her small frame, she wasn’t even reaching my elbows, she was short and small, almost child-like and I drew my eyes to her feet.
They were small and dainty, and the left foot was wrapped with a piece of her dress, probably bruised.
When she tried to escape from my grip did I finally realize I had been looking down at her too much and I finally snapped out of my gaze as she struggled to free herself from me, whimpering fearfully and I could finally feel a barrier fall past her.
Her scent filled my nose, she smelt of the rain. Like she had been under rain or in a body of water, she scented of the earth as she had probably been running through the woods for a long time. Vanilla and chocolate filled my nose also, buried under her.
There was something heavenly about her scent and a part of me wondered how she had masked it from me.
But as I looked down at her struggle against my hold I realized I couldn’t scent any wolf coming from her. It was like she was empty inside, no wolf of her own and I wondered if that was even possible.
A lot of questions traveled through my mind at once and the girl struggled once more, almost leaving my grip as I realized I was distracted by her.
I frowned and held onto her tighter. She winced loudly as I could smell the fresh tears that fell past her eyes, but I couldn’t see them yet.
And then I pushed her roughly backwards, and I heard her gasp loudly as she fell to the bed with a thud, her hair covering her face as she started to cry.
“Look at me.” I said sharply and she jumped at the sound of my voice and I squinted my eyes to see her face but her mattered long hair shielded it from me.
She didn’t turn to me immediately and I felt my hand itch, begging me to shoot her for her disobedience. No one disrespected me, not even Seth who was my right hand man. And this dirty looking intruder was starting to play on my nerves.
I stalked towards her and I felt her fear intensified but before I could reach for her once more, she snapped her head at me, her hair flew past her face and rested on her shoulders.
I froze in my tracks.
Bright violet eyes stared back at me and I didn’t remember when I saw that color as my house was mostly filled with dark objects.
Those violet eyes sparkled under the bright lights above us making it appear like stars and I sucked in a short short breath.
They were filled with tears and one drop flowed down her cheeks and I finally looked past her eyes at her small round face.
She had a small nose and I heard her sniff as she started to shiver. Her lips were pretty, small pink bit full lips. They were dried and looked like they would tear soon.
Despite having dirt on her face, this girl was beautiful. Her cheeks were bruised and I could see a few bite marks on the side of her neck.
I growled at that and I could feel my chest hurt.
I stepped back. What the fuck was wrong with me?!
The girl finally started to cry as she pulled her knees to her chest carefully, shielding her face from me once more as she wrapped her hand around herself. She trembled from her, shaking like a leaf.
I noticed marks on her arms for the first time, her white dress was almost transparent and it didn’t help that it was damp and clinging to her like a second skin.
Visible soft scars ran down her arms and I noticed a few on her legs too, but what majorly stood out was the faint marks of shackles on her wrist and the ankle of her feet.
It was like she had been chained for a long time and the she shivered as a huge amount of fear radiated off her told me she was a slave.
I stepped forward as my chest tightened and I lowered my gun, she peeked up at me from her hair. Those violet eyes widened and filled with fear as she buried her head once more.
“Please…” She whispered and I stopped in my tracks once more. Her voice sounded like the slow rushing waters, they were like music in my ears and I found myself wanting to hear her speak again.
What the fuck is wrong with you?! My mind screamed at me and I could feel my wolf’s uneasiness inside of me. But no matter how hard I tried to pull my gun and scare her I just couldn’t.
I hadn’t wasted my time in killing the man who had stepped foot into my territory but with this girl it was different.
Everything in me screamed so just wrap my hand around her, pull her close and pet her so she wouldn’t be scared anymore.
And as I moved closer to her, I raised my hand and reached for her black hair, wondering how it was going to feel underneath my palm.
And just as I was a few inches away from her hair, she shivered and whimpered and I touched her. Her hair was soft, falling freely against my palm and I heard a soft gasp escape her lips as she stopped shaking.
I reached her cheeks, they were soft and round, and I brushed off the dirt on them, giving me a look at her pale skin. I pulled her hair away from her face so I could see those eyes of hers once more.
Her eyes were even more beautiful up close and I noticed what appeared like a speckle of blue those violet eyes as a tear rolled down her face, glittering softly under the bright lights.
She kept her gaze on mine and I brushed the tear away.
My heart stirred in my chest as I felt so drawn to her. She was so small on top of my large bed, dirty against my clean sheets but that was the least of my worries right now.
Her violet eyes didn’t leave me and mine didn’t leave hers. There was a strange emotion stirring inside of me, but I couldn’t understand. All I wanted to do right now was kiss her.
What the hell was wrong with me?!
I let go of her face as she gasped and I stepped back, recoiling away from her like I had touched fire.
I never acted like this to anyone, not even to Seth and worse not to an intruder and it annoyed me that I felt sorry for her and was drawn to her like a moth to the flame, uncontrollably, with all the emotions swirling inside of me. Emotions that were new to me and I didn’t understand.
I couldn’t let myself get consumed by it. I wasn’t supposed to be feeling this way, these strange emotions weren’t me. I was fear and power. Cruel and apathetic.
I held unto the anger that filled me immediately and I frowned, raising my hand once more and pointing the gun at her.
“Who the fuck are you?” I growled in my dangerous and deadly Alpha tone, glaring at her.
She gasped fearfully at the sight of the gun in my hand and she let out a soft cry and raised her hand to her lips as tears filled her eyes once more.
This time I didn’t care about the tears in those violet eyes, not the tears on those soft dirty cheeks, not the scars on that beautiful pale skin.
This time I was back to myself, emotionless, cruel and ruthless, and if she didn’t give me an answer, I was going to shoot her.
