I literally zone out the moment Gary asks me the questions I never expected. I gulp nothing and bat my lashes. My knees go weak immediately.
“H-huh?” I stutter nervously. A deep frown sets on his face.
“Yeah brunnie, I’m dating you so it’s normal to know about my g-.” The beeping of his phone cuts him short. For a moment he delibrated on ignoring it but he pulls it out to stare at the caller
“Shit!…. why now.” He cusses and rubs his face. I hold my breath, praying this should be the end of the conversation.
“I’ve got to take this brunnie. Give me some minutes.” I nod as he walk out of the room.
“Fuck…. that was damn close!” I breathe out. I plonk down the bed and hold my head in my palms. Shit!, this is messed up!. I’ve got to be careful next time.
I don’t wanna have any damn reminder of my past. It’s in the past, and will always be. I’ve got a life now. Sighing, I get off the bed and heed out to the living room to join Stacy and Hazel.
GARY GAUTHIER’S POV
“Fuck simon!, did you really have to call now!.” I bark into the phone once I get to my office.
“I’m sorry boss, but its urgent.” He replies. I sigh and run my hand down my face.
“What is the status of the deal.” I say after some time. I lit a cigarette and puff out smoke on the glass wall, creating a mist.
I wait for his response.
“Fine, just be sure we get the deal. it’s worth billions and you know it.” I took a drag of the cigar as he talks on the other side.
“I’m counting on you, don’t let me down.” I say and hang up. I rake my hand through my hair as I watch the busy night life down the city.
My mind drifts back to Lesley scared face minutes ago. Now, I’m convinced Lesley is truly hiding something from me.
She always look scared like something bad is gonna happen. I don’t know what it is, but I’m very sure she’s scared. I walk back into the room to find it empty. I let out a breath and stride to the living room. My eyes stops on Lesley and she looks up on seeing me.
“Umm Gary, we need to get going now” Lesley says nervously, looking anywhere but my direction. I was tempted to tell her to stay the night but seeing how nervous she is, it’s obvious she doesn’t want to.
I stride to her, pull her close and with a look that says. *We aren’t done yet.*, I peck her on the cheek
“Alright, I guess y’all are stressed out from the trip. Ben would drive you home.” She nods and steps away from me, Dammit!. Stacy says her goodbyes and they walk out.
“Goodnight Dad. Thanks for making today awesome.” That seems to put a smile on my face. I squat to her height and ruffle her hair.
“Anything for you sweetheart. Goodnight.” I kiss her affectionately and wait till she she goes into her room. I take the lift for my home office. Carly greets me as I step out of the lift.
“Boss, the Indians wants the shipment to be done in two days.” I punch in my code and strode to the bar, Carly trails behind me. I pour myself a cup of whisky before glancing at him.
“What’s the catch?.” He types away on his tablet.
“Sixteen million dollars. But the Spanish guys stake higher than them.”
“How much are they offering”
“Two billion.” I nod and lower myself behind my huge desk..
“Prepare the delivery for both clients.” He frowns almost immediately.
“We don’t have much stock left boss.” He voiced out. I drew my chair closer to the table and turn on my laptop.
“Prepare the shipment for the clients from Spain and tell the indians to expect theirs in three days. Tell them a day delay won’t cost them anything.”
Carly looks up from his tablet and nod. He types again on the phone. I stuff the half burnt cigarette into the ashtray. I chug down the rest of the drink. He types for long minutes before smiling up at me.
“Done Boss, they agreed” He says in barely concealed excitement.
“Good job Carly” I give him a thumbs up. He bows
slightly, proud of himself.
“Goodnight Boss” He says before striding out of the office. I lean back into my seat and took a sip of my drink. I should be happy I’ve secured billions of dollars but in not, instead thoughts of Lesley pops into my mind.
LESLEY PERKINS’ POV
Music blares out of the stereo in stacy’s apartment.
I roll my eyes as few of stacy’s friends twerk and dance to the song. We’re in her small living room and the song is loud enough to pull the walls down. Really, is this what a sleepover Is about!?.
They’re having a silly game. Stacy keeps chugging down shots of tequila the same time her friend does. They fill up their cups and chug down the contents continuously while the rest girls cheer them up.
Unfortunately I see nothing exciting about the game, so I just sit on a couch and watch them, it’s fun watching than drinking that liquid.
I don’t know how long they keep doing it but soon Stacy wins. I shake my head as the girl who lost leaves the table. She makes her way towards me with a bottle of wine in one hand and a glass in the other. she plump down on the couch and set the wine glass on the table. Fuck!, she’s drunk as hell.
“I s–saw some guys down the lobby two preciselyyy. Gary’s men right?.”
I nod in reply.
“Woah…. that is sooo fuckin coolll. Security to guard you while you sleep?. fuck me I need that sort of cool dude. She takes a gulp from her drink and belch.
“And, how about your job. How’s it going…”
“Fine Eva.” I’m not ready for a conversation, definitely not with a drink girl. I took a gulp of my smoothie.
“Nah, I mean your fuck job with Gary”. She slurs. I arch my brows. She slurp on her drink. She’s drunk, don’t reply, its fruitless.
“You can keep him forever. I just want his brother. What’s his name again… Francis!, so freakishly sexy!. I can literally imagine banging him…” She squeals and I blew out my breathe, I zoning out immediately.
I think of what Gary had earlier said and I’m scared, really scared. Now I feel like I’m not safe anymore. I feel like I’m running again. I don’t feel secure anymore.
“Hey girlie, come on get your lazy ass outta there. it’s a girls night. Come party.” Stacy pull me out of the couch, the girl is already snoring away on the couch. Stacy stares at the drink in my hand and puffs out.
“Really?” smoothie!. For fuck sake who does that?.” I itch my hair.
“Umm, I’m fine stace, wanna go rest now.”
“Huh?, why Les… are we…. boring you?” she blinks and stagger backwards. I caught her by the shoulders.
“No stace, I’m just tired okay.” She smoothen down her hair.
“Okay, munchie, sleep tightt.” She gives me a wet kiss before walking to the stereo and changing the music.
They scream in delight as the music blares out. I laugh softly before going out of her apartment. Minutes later I’m in my apartment. I shut the door close and slide my back down on it till I’m sitting on the floor, holding my knees to my chest as tears threatened to spill out.
I can’t seem to think straight since Gary’s confrontation. I thought I could live . a nkrmal. life but now Gary suspects I’m keeping something from him.
I can’t continue with that anymore. I have to quit working for him. it’s gonna be hard but that’s gonna help a lot. I took a deep breath and sigh.
How I wish I could forget everything, wake up one day and find out I’ve lost my memory. How I wish that my life isn’t so complicated. I wipe my tears and stand up. I’m trying to do so, but everything reminds me of it.
I shower and put on my nightie. I chatted with some of my friends online. I’ve got more friends ever since I started dating Gary, I so hate popularity. I chatted till it was midnight before closing my laptop and slipping under the cover. I frown as I remember I hadn’t locked my apartment door. I get off the bed and make my way to the living room. I turn on the lights and jolted at the sight in front of me.
“What the fuck!…” I mutter under my breath.
