“Maybe.”
Robin Bailey looked at that cute girl next to him. Her somewhat gloomy cherry lips, after the contract was signed, were hooked into a sweet smile again.
Robin Bailey almost could not hold back the desire he felt to kiss her.
She still looked happy thought, “This would be the last job they gave me.”
At first, in order to prevent Elise from being the president, her grandfather Gordon Houry said she must wait before she had dealt with all the problems that incurred between her and Lucas Corporation.
She was going back to the company!
Lands Corporation.
When Elise and Robin Bailey got back to the office, Elise asked one of her co-workers, “Where’s my grandfather?”
“He’s up there in a meeting.”
That co-worker pointed to the office above.
Since they were a family business, everyone knew that the president was Elise’s grandfather. She went straight up, found the office, and knocked on the door.
Knock, knock.
Elise was now a member of the board of directors and was eligible to attend such meetings.
“Come on in.”
A voice came from inside, and then Elise and Robin Bailey walked over. As they walked in, the entire conference room fell silent and Robin Bailey scanned the room; Gordon Houry was still sitting at the head seat of the table.
Snowy and David were both sitting next to him.
“Heh, here she is. She’s not supposed to be here today. This is suffocating.”
“Can’t help it, the old man likes boys. He likes Snowy too because she has a brother.”
“It’s so unfortunate that Rodney has two daughters.”
The crowd began to talk.
Elise heard it and instantly felt that something was wrong. She looked up and asked, “Grandpa, what is this meeting about today? As a member of the board, I’m entitled to know.”
“It’s about the acting chairman.”
Gordon Houry leaned on a crutch.
“Our grandfather is getting old, and we should step up to help our family and our grandfather.”
David said crowningly.
“Yes, yes, David is young and has a master’s degree. He’s definitely the best of us.”
“I agree. David is pretty capable and is very suitable for the position.”
“I’m for it, too.”
A group of people raised their hands to show that they were in support of David.
“You guys!”
Elise looked at them. None of them supported her. Yet, when she had started Lands Corporation, these people had come to her for a position.
She had been quite generous to them and promoted whoever she thought was capable.
But she didn’t expect that today, they were all standing against her.
“Grandpa, you tell me. Whoever got that Robin-Sophia Group project would become chairman. Now you’re going back on your word? You’re seventy years old, Grandpa.”
Robin Bailey stepped forward and squared up to Gordon Houry.
“Robin Bailey, what the hell do you think you are? If it weren’t for Elise, you wouldn’t even be able to walk through the doors of Lands Corporation.”
David immediately scolded Robin Bailey.
And at that moment, Elise leaned over Robin Bailey’s side and said firmly, “His opinion is my opinion. Grandpa, you did say that and you said you are a man of your words, right?”
“Huh.”
Snowy sneered, “Elise, we did say that, but you offended Lands Corporation, and Lands Corporation left us in a heap of trouble. Isn’t that your responsibility? By the way, especially that contract with Hercules Properties.”
“I finished it.”
Elise put the Hercules Properties contract on the table.
“You finished it? Are you kidding me.”
Snowy bristled, not believing her. Lucas Corporation had talked to Hercules Properties, one of the largest construction companies in Stillwater, and Hercules Properties surely would not just ignore their demand.
A contract?
That’s not going to happen.
But then, one of the shareholders sitting next to Elise looked at the contract, “It’s really signed by Herman Bolton.”
“What!”
Snowy froze. He really signed this contract?
How could that be?
But the next second, Snowy’s expression eased, “Cousin, I can’t imagine you would use such a despicable means. Unfortunately, we would not believe your little trick. Mrs. Brown, please check if we receive any money from Hercules Properties.”
“Okay.”
One of the secretaries in the conference room immediately went out.
“Heh, cousin, you do have some dastardly tricks up your sleeve. Fake documents? Ha!”
Snowy shook her head and sighed.
“Yes, we have rules in this company. We won’t believe your fake documents. Do you think you can fool us so easily?”
“This tactic of yours is really very bad. It’s a shame to our family.”
“You could be sued by Hercules Properties. That’s sick. You are really a troublemaker. You just got so smug because of a contract with Robin-Sophia Group? Can’t you learn from your cousin?”
There was a lot of chatter, but most of it was condemning Elise.
“Learn from my cousin.”
Elise had a touch of self-deprecation with what she said.
Ever since his birth, he had been loved by everyone in the family. They even wanted to give him her company. What on earth should she be smug about?
“It’s alright. You’ve got me.” Robin Bailey grabbed Elise’s hand.
Elise glanced at Robin Bailey and didn’t answer, but this time, she didn’t struggle away from Robin Bailey’s hand.
Clearly, she had been touched by Robin Bailey’s words.
And just then, that Miss Brown came back.
“Miss Brown, how’s it going? We didn’t receive the transfer from Hercules Properties, 12 million, did we?”
Everyone turned their attention to Miss Brown.
“I don’t see any twelve million transfers.” Miss Brown shook her head.
“Ha, Elise, did you hear that, no 12 million…” Snowy sneered, her stomach was almost aching from that laugh.
But the next second, Miss Brown added. “But Hercules Properties wired 15 million. I checked the receipt for that extra three million, and that’s the interest they were supposed to pay, according to Hercules Properties’ explanation.”
