Chapter 22: Miranda Apologized

Book:The Warlord Is Back Published:2024-5-1

“He… is a… hero… I…”
Miranda immediately paled and lost her balance. Flinching, she muttered, “I… I’ve wronged Robin Bailey?”
“Ma’am, I’m the hotel attendant. I took off your clothes for you last night because you vomited on yourself after getting drunk. That gentleman gave me 100 dollars to wash your clothes. When I went to your room this morning, you were gone,” the hotel attendant stood out and explained.
“I was drunk and vomited on myself. Then you changed my clothes…”
The hotel attendant’s words were like a bombshell. In the morning, Miranda found herself naked as soon as waking up. She thought Robin had done it. However, it turned out to be because of her vomitus.
In fact, Robin had saved her. If it weren’t for him, she would be harassed by the five criminals.
However, she realized Robin.
Instead of thanking him for his kindness, Miranda rushed to Elise’s house, scolded him, and broke him up with Elise.
Miranda felt incredibly guilty.
“I’m terribly sorry, Elise.”
She looked at Elise stiffly with a pale face, guilt written all over her eyes. She reached out to grab Elise’s hand but stopped in mid-air. “I’m sorry. I misunderstood Robin Bailey. He’s a hero.”
“Robin…”
Elise’s eyes lacked focus. Her eyes reddened. Pinching the VIP card, Elise shed tears. “I’m sorry. I’m truly sorry. I should have trusted you, Robin…”
She even slapped him across his face.
How Elise wished that she had slapped herself!
Robin didn’t betray her. Instead, she misunderstood him.
Suddenly, Elise looked enlightened. She immediately pulled out her phone and dialed a number. “Hello, Robin. I’m sorry, Honey. I was wrong… Where are you now? I want to see you…” she spoke in a crying tone.
“Don’t cry, silly girl. It’s not your fault,” Robin answered gently on the phone.
Then he added, “I’m on the rooftop. Come upstairs, Elise.”
“Sure.”
Elise hung up the phone, sniffed, and trotted toward the elevator.
“Wait, Elise. You must sign the contract. Remember the project between Lands Corporation and the Robin-Sophia Group? You’ll win the bet after signing the contract. Then you’ll become the chairwoman of the board, Elise.”
Karen was anxious when watching Elise run away. “You’ll sign the contract soon. You cannot leave now even if there’s something about your life and death.”
However, Elise seemed not to hear her without looking back. She entered the elevator.
All the guests gaped at the scene.
“How could she run away like this? The Robin-Sophia Group’s president and the chairman of the board are still here. She’s so wanton! Think she’s the organizer of this opening ceremony? That’s so rude!”
“Elise Houry is damn lucky. Her gift happened to be the chairman of the board’s favorite, but she didn’t treasure this opportunity. How could she leave without signing the contract? How stupid!”
“She cannot do business. What can be more important than signing the project contract? She must have offended the Robin-Sophia Group’s chairman of the board. She cannot get the project.”
Other businessmen mocked Elise as she gave up the project that had already fallen into her hands.
How stupid she was!
David and Reginald had been desperate earlier. Suddenly, they had a ray of hope again. Elise dumped the project that had been assigned to her. They believed the Robin-Sophia Group must feel humiliated, and she must have offended them.
Charlie, the president of Lucas Corporation, thought it was an excellent opportunity. Shrewdness flashed through his eyes. He walked up to Jim and suggested, “Mr. Jordan, Elise Houry left like this. Too rude. We’re still at the opening ceremony. She even didn’t tell you before leaving. How disgraceful! Mr. Jordan, you cannot give her that project. Why don’t you let our Lucas Corporation become your partner? We’re much bigger, and we are a professional architecture company…”
In his opinion, company presidents from the capital always looked upon their dignity and pride very much.
Besides, he had wired 400, 000 dollars to Jim’s bank card earlier. He was sure Jim would agree.
However, when he smiled triumphantly, Jim flicked his hand and replied, “Well, let’s wait. I’ll wait for Ms. Elise Houry to come downstairs to sign the contract.”
His words startled others.
Charlie’s smile stiffened, wondering if Jim was kidding.
Currently, the Robin-Sophia Group’s chairman of the board and president and other guests had to wait for Elise to come downstairs.
What if she wouldn’t come downstairs? Should they keep waiting?
“Are you kidding, Mr. Jordan?” Charlie plastered a smile and asked.
“Think I look like kidding with you? As I said, I’ll wait for her.”
Jim looked sullen, scowling at him, emanating a strong aura. Charlie nodded instantly. “All right. All right. We’ll wait for her.”
Inwardly, he asked angrily, ‘Aren’t you a company president from the capital? Aren’t you a proud businessman? How can you fawn over such a woman? You treat her as if she’s your boss. You’ve accepted 400, 000 dollars from me. Why didn’t you give me the project?’
However, Charlie didn’t know Elise was the wife of Jim’s boss. Right then, Jim had been soaking in his cold sweats.
He thought of the bottle of 20-dollar Cruzan 9 Spiced Rum.
Earlier, he hadn’t known who was the gift owner, so he remarked in disdain.
Much to his surprise, it was from Elise. In Robin’s words, he should have addressed her as Mrs. Bailey respectfully.
Jim still had a lingering fear.
Robin and Jeff could decide his life or death, and Jim was frightened. Besides, Jim was sure Robin had the guts and power to end his life.
Therefore, Jim couldn’t afford to offend Elise at all. If Robin hadn’t asked him to keep the secret, he would have already treated Elise as a queen.
“Look! There are fighter planes in the sky,” a man exclaimed, attracting all the guests’ attention.
People gathered next to the window and looked out. There were two fighter planes in the sky, spreading red rose petals.
“Red roses? Is it a love confession?”
Miranda was also next to the window. She caught a petal and wondered. Everyone knew red roses stood for love, so the scene was for a love confession. The next second, the building opposite was lit by neon lights.
The lights formed a line. “I’ll make up for your lost youth thousands of times, my dear wife.”
