I was shocked when the twins offered me a job as their maid, but then, I can’t be less happy knowing the amount of money I’ll be able to raise. I can finally send Ollie to school without getting worked up about the fees and her feeding money. The salary they offered to pay me is three times my monthly salary as a waiter in that restaurant.
It’s finally Sunday that I’ll be resuming work in their house, and I will be living there permanently. Though Ollie seems to not be comfortable about the idea of me working in Bradford’s mansion, and I understand how she feels though, it’s for the good of both of us, right?
“Nadia, I’m not having a good feeling about this, you know? I mean, there are other people out there they can get to do this for them, right? And besides, I’ve heard so much about them, how they use and dump girls, I’m just scared they’d hurt you,” Ollie whined for the umpteenth time while giving me a puppy face. As much as I want to reason with her knowing she’s saying the truth, I just can’t bring myself to let this opportunity pass me by. I’ll make so much money from there, and it’s going to help us go a long way. I don’t want her to drop out of school if I eventually can’t afford to pay her school fees.
“I understand you are doing this for me, but can you please drop this already? I promise I’ll stay beside you, I’ll work too and raise enough money, don’t go please,” A drop of tears slid down the corner of her cheek, and I sigh briefly.
“Come on, don’t be like this Nadia. I understand you’re going to miss me and I will miss you too, but you know I need to do this. I want to do it not because of you, but because I want to do it. Trust me, I’ll be fine. I promise. You don’t need to work, ok? I’ll make sure I enroll you in your dream school, ok?” I cup her cheeks in my palms and give her an assuring smile.
Pulling her into my arms, I close my eyes as I let my tears fall freely from my eyes. I’m going to miss her. I never imagined it’ll hurt this much to be away from her. I have all my life with her by my side. We spent all our days together, she has always been the only family I have, and even all the time that she was blind, she always made sure that she was there for me.
I pull away from her before I pick up my bag and stride out of the house with her trailing behind me. Stepping out of the house, I meet the driver that was sent to come to get me leaning against a white beautiful jeep, as he waits patiently for me. I glance at her for the last time before I finally walk over to the car and hop in. The driver zooms off afterward.
It’s the beginning of my new life journey…

Staring out of the window as the car drives down the road, she can’t bring herself from getting nervous. Recalling the look on their faces, especially Trevor’s that day, she can’t help having a second thoughts about her decision. The imagination of the future that awaits her in that mansion makes her nervous, the gruesome faces of the twins keep freaking her out. Is she ready to do this? Will she not regret this for the rest of her life?
All she ever desires is to see her sister have a better life, and make her dreams come true, and if this is the only prize to pay for that to happen, then she doesn’t care what the future has in store for her.
Her mind wanders off to her late parents. If only they are still alive, she wouldn’t have to go through all the pains she has been going through, but since death already snatched them away leaving her and her sister to suffer, she could only embrace her fate and take responsibility for everything.
“We’re here,” The driver’s voice jolts her out of her deep thoughts, and that is when she realizes that they are already in the large compound of the mansion.
Taking a deep breath, she opens the door and steps out of the car.
“This way, miss,” The driver calls her attention while beckoning on her to follow him, as he starts heading to the entrance door.
She couldn’t stop herself from gawking around as they strode down to the entrance door, feeding her eyes with the beauty of the mansion. Although she had been there two times, she never got the time to admire the magnificent building, and now that she’s here, she can only savor the moment, knowing she may never get the chance to do this again. Who knows if she’s going to be locked indoors while she’s working for them?
Stepping into the living room, she finds one of the twins sitting in the living room and having all of his attention on the laptop on his laps, as he presses the keyboards speedily and skillfully.
“We’re here, Sir,” The driver announces as soon as they walk inside, and he raises his gaze to look at them. His pair of blue eyes gaze at them innocently. It’s crazy how no one can differentiate them.
The sound of the footsteps descending the staircase pulls their attention, and she looks in the direction to find Trevor walking into the living room…
