Chapter 43

“WHAT DO YOU want?” Claude spoke into the phone. He put the phone on speaker so the others in the room would hear what was being said.
“Nothing, actually.” She said and laughed in a girly manner. “I mean, I already have what I want. Jason and Jake.”
Jamie looked like he was going to burst. His face went red and he clenched his fist.
Rosetta spoke again “I am sure I’m in loud speaker so everyone else in the room can hear me.”
Jamie shot Claude a how-did-she-know look. Claude just shrugged.
“I want you to listen carefully.” She continued. “On the next full moon, I’m going to kill those boys, the seven of them. And dump their bodies on the area of the morteaux flower. After all, it seems right that it should all end where it started in the first place.”
“Rosetta don’t do this.” Drakys III spoke.
“Ah,” Rosetta exclaimed. “Is that not Drakys? So you wolves travelled to the Elven Kingdom. That was a bad decision because your pack needs and Alpha now more than ever.”
“What do you mean?” Jamie asked, snatching the phone from Claude’s grip.
“You will understand soon.” She said and hung up.
The dial rone filled the room.
“Bitch!” Jamie yelled, throwing the phone against the wall and smashing it to pieces.
Jaja went over and placed an arm on his shoulder. “Get yourself together, Jamie.”
“We should go.” Claude said to Drakys.
“Do you need help? I could send some of the watchers to follow you.” Drakys said, waving and gesturing to where the Watchers stood.
“I thought you said you didn’t control them.” Jamie said.
“I don’t. I would only suggest to Zhao that they should escort you, that’s all.”
Jamie shook his head. “No, I think we can find our own way.”
Zhao stepped forward. “We will keep in touch.” Him and his men filed out.
Jamie, Claude, Jaja and their entourage went to their plane and flew out.
When the plan was in the air on the way back to London, Jaja leaned over to Jamie and said, “I think the boys have less than 48 hours to live.”
Claude nodded with solemn look on his face.

WE HAVE TO get out of here tonight. I touched Jake to get his attention.
He turned to look at him. His face was white as snow in the pale blue moonlight. “What?” He whispered.
“We have to get out of here.” I whispered back.
“Yeah, no shit.” He cursed.
“I mean tonight.” I said. “Tomorrow night would be too hot. Rosetta and maybe all the Elders would be here with a garrison of other Vampires. There would not be any chance.”
He got my point and nodded absently.
“I saw only one vampire guard.” I said.
“The dark haired one?”
I nodded. “I think its only him.”
Jake nodded. “We can take him… I will wake the boys.”
He crawled back to the corner where Arthur and the others were sleeping and tapped them.
They all got up almost immediately like their wolves had known something was about to happen and was ready for whatever it was.

“We are getting out!” I heard Jake whisper.
“Out where?” Mart asked groggily. He wiped his eyes with the heels of his hand.
“Out of here, goddammit!” I cursed.
I turned to look at them.
I had shifted.
My eyes lit them up and I saw them react in fear. They drew back and Jeff swallowed a scream.

I admit I look quite scary when I shift.

“What…What are you?” Billy asked, being the first one to regain his voice.
“I thought you didn’t have a spirit animal.” Zach croaked.
“Well, you thought wrong.” Jake said.
They all turned to look at him.
“Y-you knew??” Billy asked.

I didn’t allow Jake to reply as the sound of tearing metal filled the night air and quietened all of them.
The gate came off in one clean sweep. I jumped out and crashed into the Vampire that was coming to investigate the sound.
The impact threw me against the wall and pushed all the air out of my lungs.
“What the…” The vampire started and the words died on his lips as Billy took a swipe from his throat andnl tore out his windpipe and spine.
He slumped to the floor and dessicated immediately.

“Come on.” Jake said, overstepping the dried body and leading the way.
I got up and dusted myself and ran after them down the cavy hallway.
“There’s another gate there…” Billy called.

It was opened.
Our luck.
The guard must have opened it to check what was going on inside.
Jake turned to us and put a finger on his lips to signal us to stay quiet.
There were faint thudding sounds coming from the nearby woods.

We couldn’t pin the direction because the breeze could be carrying it from anywhere.
Zach pulled off his clothes.
The sound of bones cracking and fusing together again filled the air for a moment as he shifted and became a huge black werewolf.

The thudding sounds stopped for a minute and then it resumed.

Zach sniffed the ground and followed his nose. He also sensed the vibrations caused from the thudding sounds on the earth to his paws.
We followed him as he led us into the woods and just behind an opening.
Four Vampires were there.
Two were digging a shallow grave, another was arranging a pile of dead human bodies to toss into the grave.
The third was setting a pile of vampire dessicated bodies on fire. The fourth just sat there on the hood of a large cadillac car, doing nothing.

“You know, we should just burn them all. Digging a grave is… weird.” Fourth guy said, swinging his legs.
The two digging didn’t reply him so he continued, “After digging and burying them, what next huh?” He asked, he raised his right hands to inspect his long fingers. “We put a tombstone and engrave sweet words on it?”

The third guy sniggered. He poured gasoline on his pile and tossed a lit lighter at the bodies of Vampires and it erupted in flames.
“Whooo!” The fourth guy cheered.

That was the last thing he said before he died.

Nobody noticed but Zach leapt forward, barrelling into the fourth guy and pushing him over the car’s hood and into the shallow grave being dug. He tore a huge chunk out of the Vampire’s neck.

The first and second who were digging were startled, but just for a millisecond.
Their fangs extended and they growled and rushed down to attack Zach.

The fourth guy was slower to react. The bright flame and loud sound of the flame he had just lighted had dulled his senses.

I reacted on impulse and jumped forward. I landed behind Zach in the grave. It was just as deep as my mid thighs and very wide.

It was a show off.

The Vampires bared their teeth. They looked like a scene from hell with their black-red eyes and snow white face.
Zach hackles rose and rippled from his neck, through his shoulders and down his tail.
I flashed my eyes.

I saw the fear on their face, bright as day.

I heard the third guy start running towards us but was ganged up by Jake and the others.
They brought him down. Children style.
Someone headlocked him, another clawed at his back.
They were just really a tangle of arms and legs.

Zach, who was by my side, gave a sharp growl and ran at the legs of the first Vampire.
The vamp, took a step back and brought his shovel down to balance himself.
But on getting to the feet of the vamp, Zach leapt straight up, headbutting the vampire straight in the face.

The eyes of the second vampire never left me.
I think he expected me follow Zach and come at him too.
But I wanted Zach to have his satisfaction to I just remained crouched.

The second vampire, who was still intensely focused on me, had totally forgotten about Zach.
By the time he remembered, it was too late.
He turned straight into the angry eyes of a locked up wolf.
Zach tore out the Vampire’s lower jaw before biting his neck.

Thr vampire twitched once and laid still.

Zach looked at me and we locked gaze.
A werewolf and a werecat. It was a very unlikely team.
But there was a shared understanding between the both of us.

The first Vampire groaned weakly but was silenced by Jake who had droven a long wooden stake through the vamp’s back.
He put his whole weight on the stake and twisted it sharply.
Then he looked up at us and said, “We have to go. Now.”

I nodded once.
“Zach,” Jake continued, “Don’t shift back for now.”

Zach nodded to show he understood.

“Now…” Jake said and stopped.

I realized everyone was looking at me.
“What?” I asked, looking aroundnat each of them.

“What’s the way back home?” Jake asked.

“How would I know? I was locked up with the rest of you.” I said. I looked at our surroundings and no where looked familiar.

“You were supposed to memorise the road.” Jake replied.

“I was on a call wuth Elsa!” I countered, climbing out of the grave. “Excuse me if I didn’t really carr what way we were taking?”

“Damn it!” Jake groaned.

“Who’s Elsa?” Billy piped.

“We should follow the moon.” Athur said, looking up and studying the sky.

I looked at the moon. “You know this is a leap year, right?” I asked Arthur. “The leap year messes with the lunar cycle.”

“I know. But I think we should go with the moon.” Arthur said.

“Okay then.” Jake said. “Let’s go.”

Zach leapt out of the grave and followed behind us.
I glanced at the mess we were leaving behind. “Don’t you think we should bury those bodies? Or atleast hide them.”

Jake scoffed. “And then some other Vampires come and get us with our pants down burying other Vampires… that we killed. No, Jason. I don’t think so.”

Well, that made sense.
But Jake was being cranky.
Why didn’t he remember the roads himself?

We walked in relative silence except for the occasional snapping of twigs and dry leaves. And the constant sound of night insects and owl hoots.

It was creepy but I kept quiet.
