The hospital room was bathed in the warm hues of sunset as Alex, supported by Ava on one side and his brother on the other, prepared to leave. The air was charged with tension, anticipation mingling with the impending discussion about the accident.
” Let’s head home, Alex. We’ll talk about it there ” Jack suggested, attempting to steer Alex toward the exit.
Alex stopped in his tracks, his gaze fixed on the two of them ” No. I want to know now. I need to know what happened ” he insisted, his voice tinged with determination.
Ava exchanged a glance with Jack, silently acknowledging Alex’s unwavering resolve. She took a deep breath, bracing herself to recount the painful events that led to the accident.
” Angel ” Ava began, her voice steady but filled with unease, ” she was behind it all ”
” You warned me about Hunter but I didn’t listen. I thought I could talk some sense into his, I’m sorry ” She added, her voice trembled at her last words. She played with her fingers nervously.
” Angel? Hunter? ” Alex repeated, a flicker of confusion dancing across his features ” Who are they? ”
” Your ex lover ” Ava blurted out.
His eyebrows furrowed even more as he looked on in confusion ” My ex lover? ” Fuck, why couldn’t he remember anything?? He asked himself in frustration.
Ava nodded ” Yes. She was obsessed with you, Alex. She orchestrated the whole scheme to get back at me and to have you to herself ”
Alex’s brows furrowed in disbelief. ” But why? ”
” She couldn’t accept that it was over between you two. She said if she couldn’t have you, then no one will ” Ava explained, her voice laden with the weight of the truth.
Jack interjected, his tone grim. ” She set up a situation where Ava was in danger, using her childhood friend to get to her. You, Alex, you risked everything to save her ”
Alex frowned ” Angel? ” He mumbled to himself and to them, he asked ” Her friend is Hunter? ”
Ava nodded ” Yeah, I’m sorry. You did warn me to stay away from Hunter but I thought… I thought… ” She couldn’t look him in the face and kept her head down in shame.
Alex’s eyes widened in realization, the pieces slowly falling into place. ” I… I remember now, flashes of that day. But what happened after the accident? ”
Ava hesitated, her gaze now on Alex. ” You were injured, unconscious for weeks. Angel vanished. The police couldn’t find her. So there was no evidence that she did it as she wasn’t caught on the scene ”
Anger flared in Alex’s eyes as he processed the information. ” She got away? ” His fists clenched at the thought of Angel escaping accountability for her actions.
Ava nodded solemnly. ” Yes. But Alex, the most important thing is that you’re alive. You saved me, risking your own life ”
Alex’s jaw tightened, a steely resolve taking hold. ” She won’t get away with this. I won’t let her ”
Jack placed a hand on Alex’s shoulder, his voice firm. ” We’ll deal with that later. Right now, let’s focus on getting you better ”
” No, Jack. I need to find her. I need to make her pay for what she didb” Alex insisted, his voice tinged with a raw determination.
Jack smiled bitterly ” This is not even close to what she did to you give years ago ”
Alex jerked his head in Jack’s direction ” You mean she did something like this some years back?? ”
” Yeah ” Jack nodded
” Oh shit ” Alex cursed, placing his hand on his forehead as a new headache started to form.
Ava stepped closer to Alex, her eyes pleading. ” Please, Alex. Your health comes first. Let the authorities handle Angel. We’ll help you, but you need to prioritize your recovery ”
But Alex shook his head ” If she got away the last time, she would definitely get away with it again. The b*tch is smart ” He said thoughtfully.
” Please Alexander ” She said with pleading eyes.
Alex regarded Ava for a moment, the fire in his eyes slowly giving way to a sense of resignation. ” Okay. You’re right, Ava. I’ll focus on getting better first ”
Jack sighed in relief, nodding in agreement ” That’s the spirit, Alex. We’ll work on a plan together, but now let’s head home ”
As they walked out of the hospital, the weight of the unresolved situation lingered heavily. The drive back to the mansion was filled with a tense silence, each lost in their thoughts, contemplating the complexities of the situation.
Upon arriving home, Alex settled into a comfortable chair in the living room, flanked by Ava and Jack. The dim glow of the evening light streamed in through the windows, casting elongated shadows across the room.
Alex broke the silence, his voice calm but resolute. He said to Ava ” Tell me everything, from the beginning. I want to know every detail of what Angel did ”
Ava took a deep breath, steeling herself to recount the events. She described Angel’s elaborate plan, the manipulation, and the danger she had been put in. Alex listened intently, his expression a mix of disbelief and anger.
” And then you showed up, risking everything to save me ” Ava concluded, her voice soft with gratitude.
” And your friend? ” He asked
Ava’s voice was low as she replied ” I don’t know, he probably disappeared too ”
Alex nodded, the gravity of the situation sinking in. ” I won’t forget what Angel did. I’ll make sure she faces justice for endangering you ”
Jack chimed in, his voice filled with determination. ” We’ll gather all the evidence we can find. We’ll make sure Angel doesn’t escape this time around “
