Ava didn’t wait for him to finish his sentence as she grabbed her bag from Hunter’s car and ran to Black’s car in a blink of an eye. Before Hunter knew what hit him, Black and Ava left him standing and zoomed off in his ( Black’s ) car. As they drove away, Ava looked back to see Hunter still standing rooted to the spot and looking lost. She exhaled a long sigh of relief and closed her eyes, fatigue consuming her.
” I’m sorry if I startled you but it was the only way of saving you ” Black said quietly and Ava nodded, too tired to say anything.
Black sent Alex a text that everything was okay, including Ava.
Ava studied him for some minutes before speaking ” Can you tell me what’s going on please? I don’t understand a thing here ”
Black cleared his throat ” I’m afraid I can’t do that, just know that you’re safe now. The boss will narrate everything to you later ”
Ava didn’t even try to persuade him to say anything because she somewhat knew he wouldn’t breathe a word unless he told to do so. Right then, she noticed it wasn’t the usual route to the mansion so she asked him
” This isn’t the way home, is it? ” She eyed him.
Black nodded ” No, it isn’t ”
” So where are we going then? ” She asked again, not satisfied with the answer he gave.
His mouth twitched in a smile ” You’re perfectly safe with me Miss, we’re being tailed ”
Ava’s eyes widened and she looked back. True enough, she saw a black car following them and turned to Black ” Are we going to be okay? ” She asked anxiously and Black nodded in concentration.
” Sure, we’ll lose them very soon ” And true to his word, about 5 minutes later when she looked back to check the progress, there was no black car in sight. She sighed in relief, suddenly feeling exhausted.

” What?! ” A man with scars on his face bellowed and threw his glass cup in the direction of the informant. The cup hit the guy on his forehead and shattered on the floor.
” I… I… ” The poor guy trembled in fear as he struggled with his words. Hastily, he wiped the blood off his forehead.
” It wasn’t successful?! What the hell happened?! ” The man with scars shouted in rage.
” They were on their way here when they ran into someone she knew and she was taken away before he could think of doing anything ” The poor guy’s eyes were on the floor as he said this.
” Wasn’t he armed?! He could have shot the motherf*ker or something, damnit! ” The scarred man fumed in anger.
” Er… Er… He didn’t want to betray her trust or something. Didn’t want to risk her getting suspicious of him ” The guy said quietly.
If looks could kill, the guy was sure he would be dead because the glare his boss threw him was no joke.
” What crap is that?! Haven’t he betrayed her trust already?! And couldn’t you have found someone else for the job?? ” The man shouted.
” Get out of here ” He added and picked up his phone to make a call.

Ava didn’t get to see Alex before she called it a night. Afterwards, she laid down on the bed and stared at the ceiling as she couldn’t sleep and therefore, her thoughts wandered to the recent incident. Why had she been taken away from Hunter abruptly and why wasn’t he calling her? And Alex… How had he gotten her contact? She asked herself and once again, her little voice popped up and answered ‘ You’re so dumb… Isn’t he your boss?? ‘
Ava rolled her eyes ” All the more reason not to have my contact, dummy! ” She fired back and her little lady relaxed.
Ava smirked, glad to have defeated the smart mouth ” Ugh fuck ” She groaned and jumped out of bed. It didn’t look like she would sleep anytime soon, she thought and decided to go make some tea.
The house was quiet and she liked the serene feeling it gave her. The quietness soothed her mind and she relaxed. She got to the kitchen, opened the refrigerator and brought out a bottle of water. She poured some into a cup and gulped it down in a go. That didn’t quench her thirst so she drank another, and another until she was satisfied.
She sighed ” Oh, that was so good ” and smiled. She didn’t know why she changed her mind about having tea like she wanted in the first place. Actually she knew. Then she decided to go back to bed, hoping to be able to sleep immediately. She turned to leave but right then, she heard some footsteps and when she looked up, it was Alex, the only person she had been hoping to see. He stopped on his tracks too, as though he just realized she was there.
They stared at each other silently, each hungry for the other. Slowly, he descended the steps and walked to her while Ava watched patiently and she folded her hands under her breasts.
