She looked around the room, in search of him. She saw him by the window, his back was turned to her and he shoved his hands into his pockets. She knew he was aware of her presence. She sighed, he was really a puzzle to solve, she thought. She approached him slowly but he didn’t turn to acknowledge her presence. He stood so stiff that he could be passed for a mannequin.
” Hey “She said softly as she stood beside him and stared out of the window, wondering what caught his attention so much. There was nothing interesting out there, or maybe he was just staring blankly into space.
He glanced at her briefly and returned his gaze back to the window.
” Are you okay? ” She asked, louder this time, willing him to give some sign so she would know his mood changed not because of her.
He nodded and she exhaled a breath. Gathering up enough courage, she extended shaking hands to his shoulders.
” Are you hungry? ” She asked again.
He shook his head and Ava frowned slightly, thinking he had to eat.
” Why? It’s way past lunch already ” She stated the obvious but he shook his head again.
Shrugging, she made to go out but he reached out and drew her back to his side. Her lips curled up in a smile and she blushed a little. He wanted her to stay with him, she giggled. It’s way too early to be happy, you know. Here came the voice in her head. She rolled her eyes and pushed the voice out, smiling up at him.
” You want me to spend more time with you? ” She asked, smiling smugly.
He stared at her with a look that said ” Of course, isn’t that what you were employed for? ”
Reading his facial expression, her smile turned into a sheepish one ” I know taking care of you is what I’m being hired for ”
” But it wouldn’t hurt to admit you want me to stay with you ” She added, eyeing him.
His look turned neutral, but she could see it in his eyes that he didn’t regret a thing. Ava sighed, he sure was an arrogant one.
” I’ll just go down and get us some drinks, is that okay? ” She asked, removing her hands from his shoulders, making them fall at her sides.
He nodded and Ava heaved a sigh of relief, happy that he didn’t insist on her staying with him.
” I’ll be back in three secs ” She smiled and walked briskly to the door.
She stopped at the door and turned to look at him. Sure enough, his gaze had followed her the minute she turned and his eyes was glued to her ass. Their eyes locked and she suddenly felt hot under his probing stare. He didn’t try to hide the fact that his eyes was on her ass, watching as it jiggled with every step she took. The chemistry attraction between them was so thick that it could be cut with a knife. She knew he felt it too, heck he had to. She couldn’t be only one who felt the sizzling sensation between them.
She was attracted to him, she couldn’t deny it but did he feel the same way? Come on, she chided herself, this was her boss. She shouldn’t be feeling that way over him. He was bound to speak one day and she might probably get kicked out since he wouldn’t need her anymore. Heck, she was sure he didn’t even see her as a woman, perhaps she was just a babysitter to him. Her heart clenched painfully at the thought.
On getting to the living room, she met Jack cuddling a sleeping Liam. She smiled at the sight, Jack was a doting father but it would have done him a lot of good if he had a caring wife by his side.
” Nice view ” She commented as she walked up to them, taking the next seat.
Jack looked up and smiled wistfully ” It would have made a perfect view if Mabel was doing this, instead of me ”
Ava reached out and squeezed his hands ” Everything will be fine, Jack ”
He nodded but she was sure he didn’t believe a word she said.
Dropping the sore subject, she made her voice lightened as she asked ” Is Alex always that way? Being moody I mean ”
Jack managed to shrug under the weight of Liam ” Not all the time but I assure you, he was not moody the other time ”
Ava frowned ” Then what was the matter with him? ”
Jack smirked ” You ” He blurted out.
Ava looked even more confused, what had she done to make him become that moody? She had no answer to the questions running through her mind.
” How? ” She asked, bewildered and her eyebrows were furrowed.
” You don’t get it? ” Jack asked, keeping Ava at bay. He was enjoying the suspense and was thrilled on seeing Ava was curious to know.
She huffed ” I don’t! Are you gonna tell me or not? ” She asked with a playful glare.
He finally took pity on her and exclaimed ” He was jealous of course! ”
Ava looked stunned at first but as she processed his words, her look turned into the one of disbelief so she bursted into laughter.
” Nahh, that’s not possible, why would he be jealous? ” She waved her arms helplessly.
” Well, I think he has taken a liking to you ” Jack said thoughtfully.
Ava considered the possibility of him liking her but shook away the thought.
She shook her head ” No, that’s not true ” She said firmly.
Jack shrugged, he knew she wouldn’t agree with him so he nodded ” Yeah sure ” He replied sarcastically.
” Why did you come down though? ” He asked, looking her over .
” I came to get some drinks for Alex and I ”
Jack nodded ” Okay, I’ll head home soon ”
Ava nodded.
Jack continued ” Just so you know, I spoke with Alex’s doctor today and he said there’s a high chance Alex might be able to speak this month ” He was cut off by Ava’s scream of joy as she clapped her hands in excitement.
” Wow! That’s some good news! ” She squealed happily.
Jack didn’t share her excitement, instead he waited for her to calm down which she finally did after some minutes.
” But… ” He started again but Ava interrupted him again.
” But what? ” She asked as her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
