Chapter 30: Intriguing against Each Other

Book:Love Like Arsenic Published:2024-5-1

When I was leafing through the divorce agreement Zhao Dong had prepared, I failed to notice that he was staring at me with his brows knitted, as if he was extremely dissatisfied with my reaction.
“I disagree!” My heart sank with every word of the agreement.
I couldn’t believe that a man could be as shameless as he was.
After all, we had been married for five years. Instead of feeling guilty for his affair with Xiao Yue, he even wanted me to take on all the debts of our company with the addition of leaving with no properties allocated to me!
At the sight of his suddenly darkened face, I couldn’t help sneering.
No matter how much I loved him before, from this moment on, I wouldn’t have anything to do with him.
I had no one but myself to blame for marrying such a shameless man.
I wasn’t a cold-blooded woman, but he was going too far.
“Feng, be good. This is just for the time being. After everything is settled, I’ll remarry you.” Trying to set my mind at ease, he walked over to me while cajoling me in a low voice.
However, he didn’t realize that I had seen him through.
“Oh? You mean after I pay off the 200-million-Yuan debt of our company?” I shot back with a sneer, disregarding his feelings.
He froze for a few seconds at my words before trying to brainwash me again. Maybe it was because I remained indifferent, he attempted to arouse my sentiment, saying that I should trust him for the sake of our five years’ marriage.
But all I had left was my disappointment with him.
Obviously, he didn’t want to talk much, but he had to coax me as if I was an idiot. Looking at his face, I suddenly felt like laughing despite the overwhelming sorrow rising from the depth of my heart.
I had been with him for five whole years! I never expected that our relationship would end in intriguing against each other like this.
The more he tried to convince me, the more I was determined to reject the terms he offered.
He even tried to make me agree on the pretext that he couldn’t pay the debts for fear of affecting his family.
“If you want me to sign the divorce agreement, you should be the one who will pay off the debts of our company and leave our house without taking a penny with you,” tired of his impassioned and brainwashing words, I said with a mocking facial expression.
Somehow, I felt fleeting pleasure rising from my heart when I saw the smile on his face turning to gloom.
“Lin Feng, are you out of your mind? It was you who got our company into trouble. How can you ask me to bear the consequence?” Finally, his patience wore off and he put on a sullen look I had never seen before.
I gazed at him for a while with a smile, and then tore the divorce agreement he drafted into pieces bit by bit. “Then we have nothing to talk about!” I said.
He was astonished at the sight of the scraps of paper on the floor. Needless to say, he was wondering why my reaction would be so violent.
“It doesn’t mean we’ll separate forever. After the debts are paid off, we can get remarried and everything will get back to normal.” He pondered for a while and finally came up with such an explanation, as if I couldn’t live without him.
Hearing that, I glanced at him indifferently, as if he were a clown. “I told you just now that I agree to divorce you, but only on the terms I offered.”
Even I myself was shocked by my own apathy, let alone Zhao Dong.
He looked at me with disbelief in his eyes, seemed to be wondering why I became a different person since we parted last time.
Actually, if it weren’t for the fact that I had known those things behind the case, I might have been had.
At the thought of this, I was filled with grief.
It never occurred to me that the two of us would have ended up like this.
Since there was no possibility of reaching an agreement, I was about to leave.
However, as soon as I turned around, I suddenly felt sharp pain in my neck before I blacked out.
When I regained consciousness, I found myself in a locked-up room, in which there was nothing except for a bed.
