Chapter 12: Get out of My House

Book:Love Like Arsenic Published:2024-5-1

I became increasingly intense as I approached home. Since it was the weekend, Zhao Dong would not be at work today.
Although we had betrayed each other, I had no idea how to face the man I had loved so much.
Maybe I was still loving him at the moment.
I suddenly realized in horror that until then, I didn’t even know the name and occupation of that man I slept with.
At the thought of this, my eyes became misty again.
After quite a while, I managed to calm myself down and muster up courage before stepping into the room.
However, when I had prepared the wording and was about to ask Zhao Dong about what had happened between him and Xiao Yue, I found that he wasn’t home at all.
I stood in the room blankly. But leaving no time for me to feel lost or sorrowful, my mother-in-law rushed out from another room when she found that I had been back.
“You jinx! What are you doing here? You have screwed up everything for this family. How dare you come back?” She yelled, pointing at my nose with her finger.
I had made up my mind that I would no longer steer clear of the family for which I had paid so much, but I still felt suffocated and heartbroken at my mother-in-law’s words. Obviously, she had never regarded me as a member of that family.
“Are you dumb? It’s too late to feel guilty! Get lost, you jinx!” she pushed me to the door violently while cursing at me.
Instantly, I felt chilly all over and could not help but shiver in the depth of despair. “I’m here for Zhao Dong.” I cut in on her. Exhausted as I was, I still tried to pull myself together.
As if being irritated by my words, my mother-in-law suddenly burst into fury and slapped me heavily in the face as soon as she heard my husband’s name.
“Bitch! Do you want to get my son in trouble as well?! Get out, now!”
I could not help but feel wronged when I saw her staring at me with her bloodshot eyes as if I were her foe she hated to the core.
I had no idea what I could do to please her.
She kept on slapping me when I was in a trance, but I didn’t feel much pain.
If I could see my own heart, I thought it must be bleeding then.
I felt that I was suffocating, but I still managed to suppress my anger and avoid confronting her. After pushing her hand away, I walked out of the room.
As if enraged by my attitude, she strode out, caught up with me and grabbed me by the collar. Caught off guard, I fell over with my head bumped against the freezing floor.
While I was dazed by the fall, she had ridden on top of me and began to slap me while swearing.
Soon, I felt burning pain in my cheeks.
But she didn’t stop her frenzied violence.
“A hen which doesn’t lay eggs deserves to be kicked out, just like you! I had no intention of dredging up your infertility, but you’re so shameless and still want to pester my son. I won’t spare you this time!” she roared.
Then she suddenly grabbed me by the neck hysterically.
Although I almost fainted, I saw the hatred in her red eyes clearly.
I tried to break free, but my effort was in vain.
At that moment, I thought I was dying, so I closed my eyes and stopped struggling.
However, deep down in my heart, I was unwilling to submit myself to fate.
Burning with rage, I felt myself suddenly full of strength.
Meanwhile, I also felt endless sorrow which was tinged with my disappointment and despair in Zhao Dong and his family.
